원통형 로울러 베어링의 소음 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Noise Characteristics of Cylindrical Roller Bearings)

  • The purpose of the paper is to investigate the noise characteristics of cylindrical roller bearings. For the sake of simplicity, it is assumed that the cylindrical roller bearing is infinitely long, and there is no outside force acting on the bearing. The effects of radial clearance of the bearing, viscosity of the lubricant and number of the roller on the noise of the bearing are also examined. Results show that the fundamental frequency of the bearing noise corresponds to the multiplication of number of the roller and whirling frequency of the roller center or the retainer. The acoustical frequency spectra of the roller bearing are pure tone spectra, containing the fundamental frequency of the bearing and its super­harmonics. The low viscosity of the lubricant, high radial clearance of the bearing, and low number of the roller decrease the bearing noise. The results and discussions of the present paper could aid in the low­noise design of the cylindrical roller bearing.

  • In this paper, an analytical model is developed to describe the dynamic characteristics of a roller bearing. In order to obtain accurate dynamic response of roller bearing, each roller is modeled as a rigid body, which has radial and axial movement and rotational constraints. Beam element between outer race segments is used to consider flexibility of outer race. Beam deflection is calculated from beam forces and used for contact between roller and outer race. The efficient contact search kinematics and algorithms in the context of the compliance contact model are implemented to detect the interactions between roller and race for the sake of speedy and robust solutions. The numerical results are validated with another analysis results which are calculated using waviness condition. Increasing rollers, dynamic responses are compared with each other. In order to confirm dynamic behavior and nonlinear characteristic of roller bearing, Poincare map is used.

  • The lubrication characteristics of high-speed roller bearings at oil-starvation have been investigated empirically using the bearings employed in small industrial gas turbine engines. Testing was done by simulating the oil-starvation conditions in engines, such as stopping the oil-supply to the bearing during normal operating, starting without oil-supply at atmospheric temperature, and accelerating with oil-supply at atmospheric temperature. During testing, the temperature of bearing, the power consumption, and the rotating resistance of the bearing were measured. From this study, on the contrary to the ball bearing, it was found that the resistance of the bearing was higher at the regime of without oil-supply than that at the regime of with oil-supply, despite less power consumption.

  • This paper presents a subsequent research work on the roller design of IRB(isolation roller bearing) seismic isolation device presented in Part 1 by focusing on heat treatment. The hardness and friction factor are very important factors of material and after-treatment process selection. Normally, roller bearing consists of roller and retainer. The roller gets high pressure constantly, while the retainer gets tensile and compressive stress. Therefore, sensitive material selection and heat treatment of each part is quite important. In this experimental evaluation, carbon steel, chrome special steel and others are employed and their characteristics after heat treatment are identified. Each material is prepared by refining high frequency heat treatment. The friction factor and static load capacity of manufactured material are experimentally identified and destructive test of material is processed. Optimal material and heat treatment conditions for IRB roller bearing are determined based on experiment results.

  • A bearing is a mechanical component that transmits rotation and supports loads. According to the type of rotating mechanism, bearings are categorized into ball bearings and tapered roller bearings. Tapered roller bearings have higher load-bearing capabilities than ball bearings. They are used in applications where high loads need to be supported, such as wheel bearings for commercial vehicles and trucks, aircraft and high-speed trains, and heavy-duty spindles for heavy machinery. In recent times, the demand for reducing the driving friction torque in automobiles has been increasing owing to the CO2 emission regulations and fuel efficiency requirements. Accordingly, the research on the driving friction torque of bearings has become more essential. Researchers have conducted various studies on the lubrication, friction, and contact in tapered roller bearings. Although researchers have conducted numerous studies on the friction in the lips and on roller misalignment and skew, studies considering the influence of roller shape, specifically roller shape errors including lips, are few. This study investigates the driving friction torque of tapered roller bearings considering roller geometric uncertainties. Initially, the study calculates the driving friction torque of tapered roller bearings when subjected to axial loads and compares it with experimental results. Additionally, it performs Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the influence of roller geometric uncertainties (i.e., the effects of roller geometric deviations) on the driving friction torque of the bearings. It then analyzes the results of these simulations.

  • The purpose of the paper is to investigate the noise characteristics of cylindrical roller bearings under radial load. The effects of radial clearance of the bearing, viscosity of the lubricant and number of the roller on the noise of the bearing are also examined. The results and discussions of the present paper might aid in the low-noise design of the cylindrical roller bearing.

한국표준형 원전 제어봉구동장치 전원공급계통의 전동발전기 세트 안정성 개선 (Improving Stability of Motor Generator Set of the Power Supply System for CEDM in Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plants)

  • This paper analyzed a root cause of abnormality in the temperature and vibration at generator-side bearing of motor generator set (MG Set), which is a power supply system to control element drive mechanism (CEDM) of nuclear power plants (NPPs), and modified the design of roller-type and sealing method to improve the abnormalities. From the inspection of MG Set and analysis of temperature variation during service, it was found that the abnormal temperature transition was basically associated with original design of generator-side bearing, whose roller was axially restrained by inner race, and that the abnormal vibration level was caused by inserting small chips of cage and V-ring, which were generated due to the abnormal temperature transition at roller bearing. Type of bearing and sealing method were modified based on these analyses. The temperature and vibration level measured at roller bearing showed that the modifications clearly improved the operational stability of MG Set.

  • Through this study, we investigate the effects of ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) technology on the fatigue life of needle roller bearings. The fatigue life of untreated and UNSM-treated needle roller bearings is evaluated using a roller fatigue tester at various contact stress levels under oil-lubricated conditions. We can ascertain that the fatigue life of an UNSM-treated needle roller bearing was extended by approximately 34.3% in comparison with an untreated one, where the effectiveness of UNSM technology diminishes with increasing contact stress. The surface roughness and surface hardness of needle roller bearings before and after being treated by UNSM technology are compared and discussed to understand the role of UNSM technology in improving the fatigue life of needle roller bearings. In addition, a fractograph of the damaged bearings is observed using a scanning electron microscopy to shed light on the fracture mechanisms of bearings under different contact stress levels. We can therefore conclude that the application of UNSM technology to the needle roller bearings improves the fatigue life by reducing the friction coefficient and increasing the wear resistance; this may be attributed to a reduction in surface roughness from 0.5 to $0.149{\mu}m$ and an increase in surface hardness from 58 to 62 HRc.

  • Taper roller bearing is used on rotating shaft where radial and thrust loads are attended. To avoid the sudden failure and maintain the good condition of rotating machinery it is necessary to monitor the condition of bearing and diagnose the defect of bearing. In this study the diagnosis program of taper roller bearing which is used on the lower bearing of V.A.W.T. (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) is developed. By plenty of test the database is constructed and by Gaussian distribution obtained from database the defect probability of bearing is calculated.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 항공용 기어박스에 사용되는 원통 롤러 베어링의 응력과 수명을 평가하고, 베어링 롤러와 전동륜 사이에 작용하는 접촉 응력을 최소화하는 롤러 프로파일을 선정하는 것이다. 원통 롤러 베어링이 모든 반경 방향 하중을 지지하도록 4점 접촉 볼 베어링의 설치 간극을 결정하였고, 베어링의 수명을 최대화하는 베어링 설치 위치를 결정하였다. 또한, 항공용 기어박스의 작동 조건을 기반으로 결정된 하중 스펙트럼을 이용하여 베어링의 정적 안전 계수와 동적 수명을 각각 ISO 76과 ISO/TS 16281로 예측하였다. 추가로, 롤러 프로파일 형상에 따른 접촉 응력을 해석하여 최적의 롤러 프로파일을 선정하였고, 롤러의 안정성을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 요구되는 안전 계수와 수명을 모두 만족하였으며, Johns Gohar 롤러 프로파일이 최적의 롤러 프로파일임을 확인하였다.
