  • Flexible dye sensitized photovoltaics (f-DSPVs) based on plastic substrates have attracted significant interest due to their light-weight, flexibility, and compatibility with roll-to-roll processing, as well as their potential application to ubiquitous power sources. However, f-DSPVs exhibit inferior power conversion efficiencies (PCE) compared to conventional DSPVs since the fabrication process must be conducted at a low-temperature (≤ 150℃) to prevent thermal damage of the plastic substrates, which generally results in poor interconnection between the TiO2 nanoparticles. Numerous novel low-temperature manufacturing approaches for flexible photoanode and counter electrode have been developed. In this review, current progress on low temperature strategies for f-DSPVs technology are discussed.

  • A bendable electronic module has been developed for a mobile application by using a low-cost roll-to-roll manufacturing process. In flexible embedded electronic module, a thin silicon chip was embedded in a polymer-based encapsulating adhesive between flexible copper clad polyimide layers. To confirm reliability and durability of prototype bendable module, the following tests were conducted: Moisture sensitivity level, thermal shock test, high temperature & high humidity storage test, and pressure cooker tester. Those experiments to induce failure of the module due to temperature variations and moisture are the experiment to verify the reliability. Failure criterion was 20% increase in bump resistance from the initial value. The mechanism of the increase of the bump resistance was analyzed by using non-destructive X-ray analysis and scanning acoustic microscopy. During the pressure cooker test (PCT), delamination occurred at the various interfaces of the bendable embedded modules. To investigate the failure mechanism, moisture diffusion analysis was conducted to the pressure cooker's test. The hygroscopic characteristics of the encapsulating polymeric materials were experimentally determined. Analysis results have shown moisture saturation process of flexible module under high temperature/high humidity and high atmosphere conditions. Based on these results, stress factor and failure mechanism/mode of bendable embedded electronic module were obtained.

  • In the manufacturing process of PCB , three kinds of VOCs such as aceton, methanol and 2-metoxyethanol are being used. In this study, adsorption characteristics of activated carbon fibers(ACFs) and active carbon were examined to temove these VOCs. The experimental results showed that ACF has better adsorption and regeneration efficiency than activated carbon. Phenolic-resin based ACF showed the highest adsorption capacity and the capacity was not decreased after repeated regeneration by steam. On the adsorption and desorption experiments for ternary components, preferential adsorption with roll-over phenomena was appeared. 2-Metoxyethanol was strong adsorbaste and it displaced adsorbed methanol and aceton.

  • The bundling process is the final step in vegetable manufacturing, however, the process is a little difficult to be automatized, because vegetable has the physical properties of roughness, softness, and fragility etc. In this paper, we proposed an automatic bundling mechanism for vegetable based on the heat melt sticking. The proposed mechanism consists of three modules, one module is the moving part for aligning of the vegetable shape and adjusting of the vegetable tension, second module is the arm driving part for the vegetable binding and the band roll releasing, and third module is band joining, band cutting, and band feeding part for the vegetable binding continuously. Through this research, Using the SMO(SimDesigner Motion) module, we optimize condition of mechanical movement of the bundling mechanism. This bundling system designed in order to binding 288 bundle/hour.

  • In many electro-devices, the vacuum process is used as the manufacturing process. However, the vacuum process has a problem, it is difficult to apply to a continuous process such as a R2R(roll to roll) printing process. In this paper, we propose an ESD (electro static deposition) printing process has been used to apply an organic solar cell of thin film forming. ESD is a method of liquid atomization by electrical forces, an electrostatic atomizer sprays micro-drops from the solution injected into the capillary with electrostatic force generated by electric potential of about several tens kV. The organic solar cell based on a P3HT/PCBM active layer and a PEDOT:PSS electron blocking layer prepared from ESD method shows solar-to-electrical conversion efficiency of 1.42% at AM 1.5G 1sun light illumination, while 1.86% efficiency is observed when the ESD deposition of P3HT/PCBM is performed on a spin-coated PEDOT:PSS layer.

  • A roller straightening process is a metal forming technique to improve the geometric quality of products such as straightness and flatness. The geometrical quality can be enhanced by eliminating unnecessary deformations produced during upstream manufacturing processes and minimizing any detrimental internal stress during the roller straightening process. The quality of steel cords can be achieved by the roller straightening depends the process parameters. Such process parameters are the roll intermesh, the roll pitch, the diameter of rolls, the number of rolls and the applied tension. This paper is concerned with the design optimization of the roller straightening process for steel cords with the aid of elasto-plastic finite element analysis. Effects of the process parameters on the straightness of the steel cord are investigated by the finite element analysis. Based on the analysis results, the optimization of the roller straightening process is performed by the response surface method. The roller straightening process using optimum design parameters is carried out in order to confirm the quality of the final products.

  • PEMS (printed electro-mechanical system) is fabricated by means of various printing technologies. Passive and active compo-nents in 2D or 3D such as conducting lines, resistors, capacitors, inductors and TFT(Thin Film Transistor), which are printed withfunctional materials, can be classified in this category. And the issue of PEMS is applied to a R2R process in the manu-facturing process. In many electro-devices, the vacuum process is used as the manufacturing process. However, the vacuum process has a problem, it is difficult to apply to a continuous process such as a R2R(roll to roll) printing process. • The plate manufacturing processes are composed of the reheating furnace, finishing mill, cooling process and hot leveling. The finishing rolling mill (FM) as a reversing mill has produced the plate steel through multiple pass rolling. The automatic gauge control (AGC) is employed to maintain the thickness tolerance. The high grade products are forming greater parts of the manufacturing and customers are requiring strict thickness margin. For this reason, the advanced AGC method is required instead of the conventional AGC based on the PI control. To overcome the slow response performance of the conventional AGC and the thickness measurement delay, a fuzzy AGC based on the thickness deviation and its trend is proposed in this paper. An embedded controller with the fuzzy AGC has been developed and implemented at the plate mill in POSCO. The fuzzy AGC has dynamically controlled the roll gap in real time with the programmable logic controller (PLC). On line tests have been performed for the general and TMCP products. As the results, the thickness deviation range (maximum - minimum of the inner plate) is averagely from 0.3 to 0.1 mm over the full length. The fuzzy AGC has improved thickness deviation and completely satisfied customer needs.

  • The geometric dimension and shape of microchannels that are formed during surface texturing are widely studied for applications in flow control, and drag and friction reduction. In this research, a new method for controlling the deformation of U channels during micro-rolling-based surface texturing was developed. Since the width of the U channels is almost constant, controlling the depth is essential. A calibration procedure of initial rolling gap, and proportional-integral PI controllers and a linear interpolation have been applied simultaneously to control the depth. The PI controllers drive the position of the pre-U grooved roll as well as the rolling gap. The relationship between the channel depth and rolling gap is linearized to create a feedback signal in the depth control system. The depth of micro channels is studied on A2021 aluminum lamina surfaces. Overall, the experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of the method for controlling the depth of microchannels.
