Nurses' Perception of Performance and Responsibility of Patient Education

  • Purpose. This paper is derived from a larger study of nurses' perceptions of their role as patient educators. The focus is to examine nurse' performance in patient education in relation to issues of their perceived responsibility and their ability to prioritize patient education. Method. A multiple-method survey design, using a questionnaire and in-depth interviews, is used to produce a comprehensive picture of the research problem examined. Result. The findings suggest that although nurses consider patient education as an integral part of their care, they fail to deliver as much as they desire in the face of work constraints. Nurses' patient education activities are mainly informal and reactional, in which case they can be easily regarded as a low priority when faced with time constraints. Conclusion. The findings suggest that there is a need for systematic approaches that enable the inculcation of patient education into routine daily care.

  • Recently the Emergency Response is very important issue in Korea because there are lots of damage of people and property. In this paper, we have studied person's injury related to emergency action to minimize the damage on KTX. We defined what Activities of the emergency response workers should take when the Person's injury occurs on the railway. This has been possible through the development of the scenario that is focused on the person's injury accident. We considered all kinds of environment of KTX related to emergency action of person's injury accidents. Finally, we developed the role and responsibility of emergency response workers against KTX person's injury accidents.

The Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility on Corporate Image: The Role of Spillover Effect and Negativity Effect based on CSR dimensions (기업의 사회적 책임이 기업 이미지에 미치는 영향 - 차원별 파급효과와 메시지 유형을 중심으로 -)

  • Previous researches have proven that corporate social responsibility(adhere CSR) is positively related to corporate performance. But Most of CSR related researches have several limitations. One of limitations is that those researches treated CSR as unidimensional construct. Almost researchers in the area of CSR concepts insisted that CSR is consist of multi dimensions. Carroll's four dimensions of CSR have been utilized by numerous academicians. Carroll asserted that CSR is composed of four dimensions: economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibility. But Carroll's dimensions were revised as three dimensions by Schwartz and Carroll, because ethical and philanthropic responsibility are not mutually exclusive. If CSR construct is composed of multiple dimensions, a message related to one of dimensions changes beliefs or evaluations about other dimensions that are not mentioned in the message. This phenomenon is called as "spillover effect". According to Ahluwalia, Unnava, and Burnkrant, negative information spills over to attributes that are associated with the target attributes but not mentioned in the message. Like this, this preponderant effect of negative information over positive information has been termed the "negativity effect". In this paper, authors try to prove the spillover effect and negativity effect among Schwartz and Carroll's three dimensions(economic, legal, and ethical responsibility) of CSR. The results of this study show that messages related to legal and ethical responsibility cause spillover effect and influence consumers' evaluation to other dimensions. Moreover, when negativity effect is added on spillover effect, spillover effect is more increased. It means that negative messages related to legal and ethical responsibility is more harmful to corporate image than negative message related to economic responsibility. The results of this study will help companies to manage corporate image using CSR messages as marketing communication tools. Companies should manage messages related to legal and ethical responsibility for more efficiently managing corporate image. Specially, because negative messages related to legal and ethical responsibility are more harmful to corporate image, companies must take care not to spread out negative message related to legal and ethical responsibility. Finally, we discuss the implications of the findings and limitations.

  • We investigate the relationship between ownership structure and firm performance. For this paper, we use the 'donation' figure from the income statement of each firm as a measure of firm Performance lather than short-term financial measure that has been wifely used by previous studies. Our results are consistent with the idea that family ownership is both prevalent and substantial in Korea. More importantly, however, non-family firms are found to give more donations than family firms. This suggests that non-family firms more readily recognize the significance of corporate social responsibility and play an active role in philanthropy.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out what is the functional role of VTS in order to get the people concerned with marine traffic/transportation understand about VTS. VTS could be described as the essential risk management system in both cost effective on cost-benefit analysis and the sea space or time management at port, coastal environment. The important role of the VTS are those functions such as the decision making infrastructure, the passive/active safety measures at sea. VTS could not control/regulate marine traffic as strong as ATC(Air Traffic Control) owing to the marine traffic characters. However, the right and responsibility of VTS finally are belong to the master, pilot and mariners. For the benefit of the electronic technology development, VTS system also cloud be upgraded to communication system from information system. In connection with these system upgrading, the right and responsibility of VTS/staff should be supported by domestic legal system. The followings are presented for VTS to be effective. First, the cooperation and understanding of VTS between the peoples concerned with marine traffic/transportation are essential. Because they are all data supplier and also information consumers. Second, VTS staff/regulator should be selected, educated, trained accordingly as per their career, ability, quality, qualification, certification and etc. Third, the port reliability from VTS users depends on the factors such as economic interests, safety and effectiveness/efficiency of VTS.

  • Both industrial interest and academic research are increasingly focusing on the need to institute a business environment whereby Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assumes a major role. It is suggested that four kinds of responsibilities constitute total CSR: economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibilities. Consumers tend to obtain positive perceptions toward the companies which collectively or partially fulfill these responsibilities. Moreover, the company image transfer process is the influence of consumer attitudes toward certain brands on overall evaluation of the company. To understand the image transfer process, we examine the influence of CSR level evaluation on overall brand evaluation in China, where active competitions among global brands exist.

  • Due to technological development in the globalized food system, quantitative problems of food supply have been solved, but food risks have expanded from problems in specific regions to global problems. In order to maximize the efficiency of agricultural production, the growth in agricultural production system, procirement of raw materials, establishment of food processing processes and establishment of food supply chain systems are required. Control of hazards requires facility and administrative efforts. In this study, we examined the role of CSR in conjunction with food safety. Food SCM is related to food safety and correlates with the food supply chain. In terms of the triple bottom line theory, CSR is correlated with SCM and it is possible to pursue food safety through corporate CSR and SCM. In this study, it is statistically confirmed that SCM and CSR are in a positive relationship. In the impact of CSR on food safety, it has been confirmed that economic responsibility and legal responsibility take precedence over environmental responsibility and social responsibility. Based on this, we can achieve food safety through SCM and CSR, and we can decide which of CSR activities can be prioritized.

A Study on Leadership Roles Based on Information Technology (정보기술을 바탕으로 한 지도력의 역할에 관한 연구)

  • Information technology leadership roles have undergone fundamental change over the past decade. Despite increase interest in recent years, little empirical research on Information Technology has been done. This paper suggests results from a survey in Korea on Information Technology. The survey collected data on general leadership roles such as information roles, decisional role and interpersonal role, as well as on specific Information Technology leadership roles such as planning leader, R&D manager, general manager, chief operating strategist. The role of a change leader is positively influenced by the number of years, the extent of strategic responsibility and the organization's revenue while it is negatively influenced by the number of years in the current position. R&D manager can be predicted by strategic responsibility and chief executive's IT use, Manager can be predicted by the extent of strategic responsibility. Although several significant predictors of Information Technology leadership roles were identified, the more signigicant study should continue in the future.

The Relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Financial Performance: An Empirical Study of Commercial Banks in Vietnam

  • This article aims to examine the one-way relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the financial performance of Vietnamese commercial banks, mainly focusing on the moderating role of ownership structure. Net interest margin (NIM), return on assets (ROA), and return on equity (ROE) are selected to represent the financial performance of the bank. CSR was measured using a multi-method approach that included both quantitative and qualitative methods. Corporate Social Responsibility Expenditure (CSRE) was estimated using financial data. The Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure (CSRD) index was created using the content analysis method. Using a sample of Vietnamese commercial banks from 2012 to 2019 to perform regressions in the dynamic panel models with the two-step system generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator, the results show a positive effect of both CSRE and CSRD on the financial performance of the bank. Empirical evidence shows that the positive relationship between CSRE and financial performance is more robust in statecontrolled banks than non-state-controlled banks. In contrast, the positive impact of CSRD on the financial performance of state-owned commercial banks is weaker than that of private banks. Finally, the paper points out the limitations and proposes future research directions.
