This paper preliminarily investigates the effectiveness of various control systems, such as passive, active, semiactive and hybrid control, for seismic protection of cable-stayed bridges by examining the ASCE first generation benchmark problem for a cable-stayed bridge. This benchm.0.00000ark problem considers the cable-stayed bridge that is scheduled for completion in Missouri, USA In 2003. Seismic considerations were strongly considered in the design of this bridge due to location of the bridge and its critical role as a principal crossing of the Mississippi River. Based on detailed drawings of this cable-stayed bridge, a three-dimensional linearized evaluation model has been developed to represent the complex behavior of the bridge. A set of eighteen evaluation criteria has been developed to evaluate the capability of each control system. In this study, four passive control systems, one active control system, two semiactive control systems and three hybrid control systems are considered. Numerical simulation results show that all the control systems are effective in reducing the responses of the benchmark cable-stayed bridge under the historical earthquakes. To get good performance, however, the passive control systems need quite large control forces compared to other control systems. The simulation results also demonstrate that the passive, semiactive and hybrid control systems are robust to the stiffness uncertainty of the structure. Therefore, the semiactive and hybrid control systems are more appropriate in real applications for full-scale civil infrastructures.
Purpose: Pulse crop damage due to wild birds is a serious problem, to the extent that the rate of damage during the period of time between seeding and the stage of cotyledon reaches 45.4% on average. This study investigated a method of fundamentally blocking birds from eating crops by conducting vinyl mulching after seeding and identifying the growing locations for beans to perform punching. Methods: Infrared (IR) sensors that could measure the temperature without contact were used to recognize the locations of soybean cotyledons below vinyl mulch. To expand the measurable range, 10 IR sensors were arranged in a linear array. A sliding mechanical device was used to reconstruct the two-dimensional spatial variance information of targets. Spatial interpolation was applied to the two-dimensional temperature distribution information measured in real time to improve the resolution of the bean coleoptile locations. The temperature distributions above the vinyl mulch for five species of soybeans over a period of six days from the appearance of the cotyledon stage were analyzed. Results: During the experimental period, cases where bean cotyledons did and did not come into contact with the bottom of the vinyl mulch were both observed, and depended on the degree of growth of the bean cotyledons. Although the locations of bean cotyledons could be estimated through temperature distribution analyses in cases where they came into contact with the bottom of the vinyl mulch, this estimation showed somewhat large errors according to the time that had passed after the cotyledon stage. The detection results were similar for similar types of crops. Thus, this method could be applied to crops with similar growth patterns. According to the results of 360 experiments that were conducted (five species of bean ${\times}$ six days ${\times}$ four speed levels ${\times}$ three repetitions), the location detection performance had an accuracy of 36.9%, and the range of location errors was 0-4.9 cm (RMSE = 3.1 cm). During a period of 3-5 days after the cotyledon stage, the location detection performance had an accuracy of 59% (RMSE = 3.9 cm). Conclusions: In the present study, to fundamentally solve the problem of damage to beans from birds in the early stage after seeding, a working method was proposed in which punching is carried out after seeding, thereby breaking away from the existing method in which seeding is carried out after punching. Methods for the accurate detection of soybean growing locations were studied to allow punching to promote the continuous growth of soybeans that had reached the cotyledon stage. Through experiments using multiple IR sensors and a sliding mechanical device, it was found that the locations of the crop could be partially identified 3-5 days after reaching the cotyledon stage regardless of the kind of pulse crop. It can be concluded that additional studies of robust detection methods considering environmental factors and factors for crop growth are necessary.

This paper introduces a safer and more power efficient heater by using induction heating, to apply to the semiconductor wafer fabrication exhaust gas cleaning system. The exhaust gas cleaning system is currently made with filament heater that generates an endothermic reaction of N2 gas for the removal of moisture. Induction theory, through the bases of theoretical optimization and electronic implementation, is applied in the design of the induction heater specifically for the semiconductor wafer exhaust system. The new induction heating design provides a solution to the issues with the current energy inefficient, unreliable, and unsafe design. A robust and calibrated design of the induction heater is used to optimize the energy consumption. Optimization is based on the calibrated ZVS induction circuit design specified by the resonant frequency of the exhaust pipe. The fail-safe energy limiter embedded in the system uses a voltage regulator through the feedback of the MOSFET control, which allows the system performance to operate within the specification of the N2 Heater unit. A specification and performance comparison from current conventional filament heater is made with the calibrated induction heater design for numerical analysis and the proof of a better design.

In burst OFDM system, the frame synchronization should be performed first for the acquisition of received frame and the estimation of the correct FFT-window position. The conventional frame synchronization algorithms using design features of the preamble symbol, the repetition pattern of the OFDM symbol by pilot sub-carrier allocation rule and Cyclic Prefix(CP), has difficulty in the detection of precise frame timing because its correlation characteristics would increase and decrease gradually. Also, the algorithm based on the correlation between the reference signal and the received signal has performance degradation due to frequency offset. Therefore, we adopt a differential correlation method that is robust to frequency offset and has the clear peak value at the correct frame timing for frame synchronization. However, performance improvement is essential for differential correlation methods, since it usually shows multiple peak values due to the repetition pattern. In this paper, we propose an enhanced frame synchronization algorithm based on the differential correlation method that shows a clear single peak value by using differential correlation between samples of identical repeating pattern. We also introduce a normalization scheme which normalizes the result of differential correlation with signal power to reduce the frame timing error in the high speed mobile channel environments.

The Object tracking by real-time image analysis is one of the major concerns in computer vision and its application fields. The Object detection process of real-time images must be preceded before the object tracking process. To achieve the stable object detection performance in the exterior environment, adaptive background model generation methods are needed. The adaptive background model can accept the nature's phenomena changes and adapt the system to the changes such as light or shadow movements that are caused by changes of meridian altitudes of the sun. In this paper, we propose a robust background model generation method effective in an illegal parking auto-detection application area. We also provide a evaluation method that judges whether a moving vehicle stops or not. As the first step, an initial background model is generated. Then the differences between the initial model and the input image frame is used to trace the movement of object. The moving vehicle can be easily recognized from the object tracking process. After that, the model is updated by the background information except the moving object. These steps are repeated. The experiment results show that our background model is effective and adaptable in the variable exterior environment. The results also show our model can detect objects moving slowly. This paper includes the performance evaluation results of the proposed method on the real roads.

In recent days, a study of the intrusion detection system collecting and analyzing network data, packet or logs, has been actively performed to response the network threats in computer security fields. In particular, Bayesian network has advantage of the inference functionality which can infer with only some of provided data, so studies of the intrusion system based on Bayesian network have been conducted in the prior. However, there were some limitations to calculate high detection performance because it didn't consider the problems as like complexity of the relation among network packets or continuos input data processing. Therefore, in this paper we proposed two methodologies based on K-menas clustering to improve detection rate by reforming the problems of prior models. At first, it can be improved by sophisticatedly setting interval range of nodes based on K-means clustering. And for the second, it can be improved by calculating robust CPT through applying weighted-leaning based on K-means clustering, too. We conducted the experiments to prove performance of our proposed methodologies by comparing K_WTAN_EM applied to proposed two methodologies with prior models. As the results of experiment, the detection rate of proposed model is higher about 7.78% than existing NBN(Naive Bayesian Network) IDS model, and is higher about 5.24% than TAN(Tree Augmented Bayesian Network) IDS mode and then we could prove excellence our proposing ideas.

This paper presents external load disturbance compensation that used to deadbeat load torque observer and regulation of the compensation gain by parameter estimator. As a result, the response of PMSM follows that of the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is compose of a dead beat observer that is well-known method. However it has disadvantage such as a noise amplification effect. To reduce of the effect, the post-filter, which is implemented by MA process, is proposed. The parameter compensator with RLSM(recursive least square method) parameter estimator is suggested to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller. Although RLSM estimator is one of the most effective methods for online parameter identification, it is difficult to obtain unbiased result in this application. It is caused by disturbed dynamic model with external torque. The proposed RLSM estimator is combined with a high performance torque observer to resolve the problems. As a result, the proposed control system becomes a robust and precise system against the load torque and the parameter variation. A stability and usefulness, through the verified computer simulation and experiment, are shown in this paper.

Planing hull type ships are often equipped with interceptor or trim tab to improve the excessive trim angle which leads to poor resistance and sea keeping performances. The purpose of this study is to design a controller to control the attitude of the ship by controllable stern interceptor and validate the effectiveness of the attitude control by the towing tank test. Embedded controller, servo motor and controllable stern interceptor system were equipped with planing hull type model ship. Prior to designing the control algorithm, a model test was performed to identify the system dynamic model of the planing hull type ship including the stern interceptor. The matrix components of model were optimized by Genetic Algorithm. Using the identified model, PID controller which is a classical controller and sliding mode controller which is a nonlinear robust controller were designed. Gain tuning of the controllers and running simulation was conducted before the towing tank test. Inserting the designed control algorithm into the embedded controller of the model ship, the effectiveness of the active control of the stern interceptor was validated by towing tank test. In still water test with small disturbance, the sliding mode controller showed better performance of canceling the disturbance and the steady-state control performance than the PID controller.

Image registration is a process to establish the spatial correspondence between the images of same scene, which are acquired at different view points, at different times, or by different sensors. In this paper, we propose an effective registration method for images acquired by multi-sensors, such as EO (electro-optic) and IR (infrared) sensors. Image registration is achieved by extracting features and finding the correspondence between features in each input images. In the recent research, the multi-sensor image registration method that finds corresponding features by exploiting NMI (Normalized Mutual Information) was proposed. Conventional NMI-based image registration methods assume that the statistical correlation between two images should be global, however images from EO and IR sensors often cannot satisfy this assumption. Therefore the registration performance of conventional method may not be sufficient for some practical applications because of the low accuracy of corresponding feature points. The proposed method improves the accuracy of corresponding feature points by combining the gradient orientation as spatial information along with NMI attributes and provides more accurate and robust registration performance. Representative experimental results prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Utterance verification is used in variable vocabulary word recognition to reject the word that does not belong to in-vocabulary word or does not belong to correctly recognized word. Utterance verification is an important technology to design a user-friendly speech recognition system. We propose a new utterance verification algorithm for no-training utterance verification system based on the minimum verification error. First, using PBW (Phonetically Balanced Words) DB (445 words), we create no-training anti-phoneme models which include many PLUs(Phoneme Like Units), so anti-phoneme models have the minimum verification error. Then, for OOV (Out-Of-Vocabulary) rejection, the phoneme-based confidence measure which uses the likelihood between phoneme model (null hypothesis) and anti-phoneme model (alternative hypothesis) is normalized by null hypothesis, so the phoneme-based confidence measure tends to be more robust to OOV rejection. And, the word-based confidence measure which uses the phoneme-based confidence measure has been shown to provide improved detection of near-misses in speech recognition as well as better discrimination between in-vocabularys and OOVs. Using our proposed anti-model and confidence measure, we achieve significant performance improvement; CA (Correctly Accept for In-Vocabulary) is about 89%, and CR (Correctly Reject for OOV) is about 90%, improving about 15-21% in ERR (Error Reduction Rate).
