  • Traditional genetic algorithms, though robust, are generally not the most successful optimization algorithm on any particular domain. Hybridizing a genetic algorithm with other algorithms can produce better performance than both the genetic algorithm and the other algorithms. In this paper, we use random process and simulated annealing instead of mutation operator in order to get well tuned fuzzy rules. The key of this approach is to adjust both the width and the center of membership functions so that the tuned rule-based fuzzy controller can generate the desired performance. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a predictive control with H$_{\infty}$ suboptimal performance which is robust to disturbances and has a guaranteed stability. In order to derive the control law conveniently, state-space based approach, where the state variable is involved explicitly in the controller design and implementation is allowed. So an input-output model is converted to an equivalent observable canonical state-space form. The suggested control guarantees the norm bounded system output values from disturbances. A systematic way using the LMI method is presented to obtain appropriate parameters for Quadratic stability condition and optimization problem.

  • Genetic Algorithm(GA), which is based on the theory of natural evolution, has been evaluated highly for their robust performances. The optimization problems on truss structures under the prescribed displacement are solved by using GA. In this paper, the homologous deformation of structures was proposed as the prescribed displacement. The shape analysis of structures is a kind of inverse problems different from stress analysis, and the governing equation becomes nonlinear. In this regard, GA was used to solve the nonlinear equation. In this study, the shape analysis method in which not only the positions of the objective nodes but also the layout and sectional area of the member are encoded to strings in the GA as design parameters of the structures is proposed.

  • In this paper, we implemented the variable speed controller of an induction motor by the Fuzzy control algorithms, which recently is invoking the remarkable interest. As the fuzzy controller is designed on the base of expert's knowlede and experience, it is difficult to expect the perfect control performance of fuzzy controller. Therefore, the adjustment techniques for optimization of scale factors were presented to design the robust fuzzy controller comparing with conventional PI control the usefullness of proposed fuzzy controller was showed by the experimental results.

  • By using an ANSYS product suite (CFX, Ansys Multiphysics), which is a powerful tool for multiphysics analysis of complicated physical phenomena, we performed a structural stress analysis based on fluid flow and heat transfer phenomena within a quick connect/disconnect (QC/DC) bellows system. Considering the extremely low temperatures in the QC/DC environment, an approach to the problem based on complex multi-physics phenomena, where different phenomena interact with each other, is crucial. Therefore, we use a numerical analysis technique where fluid-thermal-structural interactions are combined. In conclusion, when low temperature fluids flow inside bellows, the expected service life is conspicuously reduced due to the thermal stress caused by heat transfer. Therefore, in future research, a structure with considerably reduced thermal stress by robust design optimization will be derived.

  • Urban Air Mobility (UAM) such as a drone taxi is one of the future transportations that have recently been attracting attention. Along with the construction of an urban terminal, an accurate landing system for UAM is also essential. However, in urban environments, reliable Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals cannot be received due to obstacles such as high-rise buildings which causes multipath and non-line of sight signal. Thus, the positioning result in urban environments from the GNSS signal is unreliable. Consequently, we propose the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) network to assist the soft landing of UAM on a vertiport. Since the positioning performance of UWB network depends on the layout of UWB anchors, it is necessary to optimize the layout of UWB anchors. In this paper, we propose a two-steps genetic algorithm that consists of binary genetic algorithm involved multi objectives fitness function and integer genetic algorithm involved robust solution searching fitness function in order to optimize taking into account Fresnel hole effects.

  • The problem of optimal stochastic GA control of the system with uncertain parameters and unsure noise covariates is studied. First, without knowing the explicit form of the dynamic system, the open-loop determinism problem with path optimization is solved. Next, Gaussian linear quadratic controllers (LQG) are designed for linear systems that depend on the nominal path. A robust genetic neural network (NN) fuzzy controller is synthesized, which consists of a Kalman filter and an optimal controller to assure the asymptotic stability of the discrete control system. A simulation is performed to prove the suitability and performance of the recommended algorithm. The results indicated that the recommended method is a feasible method to improve the performance of active tuned mass damper (ATMD) shear buildings under random earthquake disturbances.

  • Background: This study aims to calculate detector positions as a design of a radioactive source localizing radiation portal monitor (RPM) system using an improved genetic algorithm. Materials and Methods: To calculate of detector positions for a source localizing RPM system optimization problem is defined. To solve the problem, a modified iterative genetic algorithm (MIGA) is developed. In general, a genetic algorithm (GA) finds a globally optimal solution with a high probability, but it is not perfect at all times. To increase the probability to find globally optimal solution rather, a MIGA is designed by supplementing the iteration, competition, and verification with GA. For an optimization problem that is defined to find detector positions that maximizes differences of detector signals, a localization method is derived by modifying the inverse radiation transport model, and realistic parameter information is suggested. Results and Discussion: To compare the MIGA and GA, both algorithms are implemented in a MATLAB environment. The performance of the GA and MIGA and that of the procedures supplemented in the MIGA are analyzed by computer simulations. The results show that the iteration, competition, and verification procedures help to search for globally optimal solutions. Further, the MIGA is more robust against falling into local minima and finds a more reliably optimal result than the GA. Conclusion: The positions of the detectors on an RPM for radioactive source localization are optimized using the MIGA. To increase the contrast of the measurements from each detector, a relationship between the source and the detectors is derived by modifying the inverse transport model. Realistic parameters are utilized for accurate simulations. Furthermore, the MIGA is developed to achieve a reliable solution. By utilizing results of this study, an RPM for radioactive source localization has been designed and will be fabricated soon.

  • It is essential to reduce the Infra-red signature for increasing ship's survivability in ship design stage. However the ship's IR signature is quite sensitive to the maritime and atmosphere. Therefore, it is very important to select the marine meteorological data to be applied to the signature analysis. In this study, we selected the three meteorological sample sets from the population of the Korea Meteorological Administration's marine environment data in 2017. These samples were selected through the two-dimensional stratified sampling method, taking into account the geopolitical threats of the Korean peninsula and the effective area of the buoy. These sample sets were applied to three naval ships classified by their tonnage, and then the IR signature analysis was performed to derive the Contrast Radiant Intensity (CRI) values. Based on the CRI values, the validity of each sample set was determined by comparing Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF), and Probability Density Function (PDF). Also, we checked the degree of scattering in each sample set and determined the efficiency of analysis time and cost according to marine meteorological sample sets to confirm the possibility of a probabilistic method. Through this process, we selected the standard for optimization of marine meteorological sample for ship IR signature analysis. Based on this optimization sample, by applying probabilistic method to the management of IR signature for naval ships, the robust design is possible.
