  • In this paper, a practical methodology of hand-manipulator motion coordination for indoor service robot is introduced. This paper describes the procedures of opening door performed by service robot as a noticeable example of motion coordination. This paper presents well-structured framework for hand-manipulator motion coordination, which includes intelligent sensor data interpretation, object shape estimation, optimal grasping, on-line motion planning and behavior-based task execution. This proposed approach is focused on how to integrate the respective functions in harmony and enable the robot to complete its operation under the limitation of usable resources. As a practical example of implementation, the successful experimental results in opening door whose geometric parameters are unknown beforehand are provided.

  • In this paper, we propose a new collision detection algorithm for human-robot collaboration. We use an IMU sensor located at the tip of the manipulator and the kinematic behavior of the manipulator to detect the unexpected collision between the robotic manipulator and environment. Unlike other method, the developed algorithm uses only the kinematic relationship between the manipulator joint and the end effector. Therefore, the collision estimation signal is not affected by the error of the dynamics model. The proposed collision detection algorithm detects the collision by comparing the estimated acceleration of the end effector derived from the position, velocity and acceleration trajectories of the robot joints with the actual acceleration measured by the sensor. In simulation, we compare the performance of our method with the conventional Residual Observer (ROB). Our method is less sensitive to the load variation because of the independency on the dynamic modeling of the manipulator.

  • In this paper, we propose a new motion control technology to design robust control system of industrial robot. The system modeling of robotic manipulation tasks with constraints is presented, and the control architecture for unconstrained and constrained motion system with parametric uncertainties is synthesized. The optimal reference of robot manipulator is generated by the reference controller as a discrete state system and the control behavior of constrained system which has poor modeling information and time-invariant constraint function is improved motion control system is successfully evaluated by experiment to the desired tasks.

  • This paper discusses a physiological approach motivated by the study of human hands for robot hand force control. It begins with an analysis of the human's grasping behavior to see how humans determine the grasp forces. The human controls the grasp force by sensing the friction force, that is, the weight of the object which is felt on his hand, but when slip is detected by sensing skin acceleration, the grasp force becomes much greater than the minimum force required for grasping by adding the force which is proportional to the acceleration. And two methods that can predict when and how fingers will slip upon a grasped object are considered. To emulate the human's capabilities, we propose a method for determination of as grasp force, which uses the change in the friction force. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be applied to control of robot hands to grasp objects of arbitrary weight stably without skin-like slip sensors.

  • In this paper, we propose a new motion and force control methodology for constrained robots as an approach of hybrid discrete-continuous dynamical system. The hybrid dynamic system modeling of robotic manipulation tasks with constraints is presented, and the hybrid system control architecture for unconstrained and constrained motion system with parametric uncertainties is synthesized. The optimal reference stiffness of robot manipulator is generated by the hybrid automata as a discrete state system and the control behavior of constrained system which has poor modeling information and time-varying constraint function is improved by the constrained robots as a continuous state system. The performance of the proposed constrained motion control system is successfully evaluated via experimental studies to the constraint tasks.

  • In this paper, we discuss about implementation of a wireless communication system for a distributed autonomous robotic system. In order to achieve cooperative behavior among mobile robots, it is required to perform communication. Based on this requirements, we examined to the application in a wireless communication system used by mobile robots. This paper describes a conceptual and experimental framework which provides a distributed control architecture for the study of interactions between multiple mobile robots.

  • Robots need to understand as much as possible about their environmental situation and react appropriately to any event that provokes changes in their behavior. In this paper, we pay attention to topological relations between spatial objects and propose a model of robotic cognition that represents and infers temporal relations. Specifically, the proposed model extracts specified features of the cooccurrence matrix represents from disparity images of the stereo vision system. More importantly, a habituation model is used to infer intrinsic spatial relations between objects. A preliminary experimental investigation is carried out to verify the validity of the proposed method under real test condition.

  • One of challenging topics for humanoid hands is to modulate a human-like motion of humanoid fingers handling an object. To this end, recognizing the motion behavior of human fingers is very important aspect. Based on this concept, this paper identifies the .joint trajectories of human fingers for an operation of hand opening and closing, and specifies an empirical model that coordinates an inter-articular relationship of human fingers doing the given motion. It is expected that the inter-articular model presented in this paper is applicable for humanoid fingers to mimic the natural motion of human fingers.
