  • This paper proposes controller of leader robot considering following robot with input constraints based on leader-following approach. In the previous formation control researches, it was assumed that leader and follower is same object. If leader robot drives as maximum speed that the initial position errors still remain even if following robot have same velocity as a leader. In the situation that velocity of following robot is lower than its leader robot, following robot cannot follow leader robot. Furthermore, the following robot will not be able to made formation with leader robot and keep proximity communication or sensing range. Therefore, multiple mobile robot system using leader-following method should be guaranteed range to get information each other. In this paper, Leader robot is driving to goal position using linear controller and following robot is following trajectory to be made from leader robot. We assume that following robot has input constraints to realize different performance between leader robot and following robot. We design controller of leader robot for desired goal position including the errors between formation and following robot. Thus, we propose leader robot controller considering input constraints of following robot. Finally, we were able to confirm the validity of the proposed method based on simulation results.

  • The design of underwater inspection robot system is presented. This robot system is designed for wall inspection in the nuclear plant facility. This paper describes the major components of the robot and its structures. This robot system is consisted of three parts : mechanical electrical and sensing pail. The main problem of designing mechanical part is to select the mechanism of driving. In this system the propeller driving mechanism is selected which can be move the robot continuously. For reducing the size of robot, we designed the CPU and motor controller board. The sensor system is consisted of two parts. One is environment monitoring part and the other is robot localization system.

  • This paper proposes suitable gait generation for dynamic walking of biped robot with varying load in real time. Author proposes the relationship between ZMP(Zero Moment Point) and measurement from FSR(Force Sensing Register). Simplifying this relationship, it is possible to reduce the computational time and control the biped robot in real time. If the weight of the biped robot varies in order to move some object, then joint trajectories of the the biped robot must be changed. When some object is loaded on the biped robot in it's home position, FSRs can measure the variation of weight. Evaluating the relations between varying load and stable gait of the biped robot, it can walk adaptively. This relation enables the biped robot to walk properly with varying load. The simulation is also represented in this paper which shows proposed relationships.

  • This paper proposes a prototype of a safe and reliable wheelchair robot with Human Robot Interaction (HRI). Since the wheelchair users are usually the handicapped, the wheelchair robot must guarantee the safety and reliability for the motion while considering users intention, A single color CCD camera is mounted for input user´s command based on human-friendly gestures, and a ultra sonic sensor array is used for sensing external motion environment. We use face and hand directional gestures as the user´s command. By combining the user´s command with the sensed environment configuration, the planner of the wheelchair robot selects an optimal motion. We implement a prototype wheelchair robot, MR, HURI (Mobile Robot with Human Robot Interaction) ...

  • The calibration of the robot system with a visual sensor consists of robot, hand-to-eye, and sensor calibration. This paper describe a new technique for computing 3D position and orientation of a 3D sensor system relative to the end effect of a robot manipulator in an eye-on-hand robot configuration. When the 3D coordinates of the feature points at each robot movement and the relative robot motion between two robot movements are known, a homogeneous equation of the form AX : XB is derived. To solve for X uniquely, it is necessary to make two robot arm movements and form a system of two equation of the form: A$_1$X : XB$_1$ and A$_2$X = XB$_2$. A closed-form solution to this system of equations is developed and the constraints for solution existence are described in detail. Test results through a series of simulation show that this technique is simple, efficient, and accurate fur hand/eye calibration.

  • This paper presents a speaker recognition system intended for use in human-robot interaction. The proposed speaker recognition system can achieve significantly high performance in the Ubiquitous Robot Companion (URC) environment. The URC concept is a scenario in which a robot is connected to a server through a broadband connection allowing functions to be performed on the server side, thereby minimizing the stand-alone function significantly and reducing the robot client cost. Instead of giving a robot (client) on-board cognitive capabilities, the sensing and processing work are outsourced to a central computer (server) connected to the high-speed Internet, with only the moving capability provided by the robot. Our aim is to enhance human-robot interaction by increasing the performance of speaker recognition with multiple microphones on the robot side in adverse distant-talking environments. Our speaker recognizer provides the URC project with a basic interface for human-robot interaction.

  • SALM(Simultaneous localization and mapping) and AI(Artificial intelligence) have been active research areas in robotics for two decades. In particular, localization is one of the most important tasks in mobile robot research. Until now expensive sensors such as a laser sensor have been used for mobile robot localization. Currently, the proliferation of RFID technology is advancing rapidly, while RFID reader devices, antennas and tags are becoming increasingly smaller and cheaper. So, in this paper, the smart floor using passive RFID tags is proposed and, passive RFID tags are mainly used for identifying location of the mobile robot in the smart floor. We discuss a number of challenges related to this approach, such as tag distribution (density and structure), typing and clustering. In the smart floor using RFID tags, the localization error results from the sensing area of the RFID reader, because the reader just knows whether the tag is in the sensing range of the sensor and, until now, there is no study to estimate the heading of mobile robot using RFID tags. So, in this paper, two algorithms are suggested to. The Markov localization method is used to reduce the location(X,Y) error and the Kalman Filter method is used to estimate the heading($\theta$) of mobile robot. The algorithms which are based on Markov localization require high computing power, so we suggest fast Markov localization algorithm. Finally we applied these algorithms our personal robot CMR-P3. And we show the possibility of our probability approach using the cheap sensors such as odometers and RFID tags for mobile robot localization in the smart floor

  • This paper deals with the emotional model of the software-robot. The software-robot requires several capabilities such as sensing, perceiving, acting, communicating, and surviving. and so on. There are already many studies about the emotional model like KISMET and AIBO. The new emotional model using the modified friendship scheme is proposed in this paper. Quite often, the available emotional models have time invariant human respond architectures. Conventional emotional models make the sociable robot get around with humans, and obey human commands during robot operation. This behavior makes the robot very different from real pets. Similar to real pets, the proposed emotional model with the modified friendship capability has time varying property depending on interaction between human and robot.

  • Construction automation is yet to be improved since construction site still faces a lot of high risks and difficulties. This research focuses on applying robotic beam assembly system in place of construction workers. This system consists of CF (Construction Factory) structure to provide adequate working environment to robot automation. The CF structure not only gives automation environment for a robot but also houses the equipments to protect from outside effects. The robotic beam assembly system also consists of robotic bolting system and robot transport mechanism. It utilizes various tools to insert and join the bolts and nuts. Visual servoing helps precise robot motion by sensing bolt hole and tail of the bolt. ITA system helps non skilled workers to easily perform the assembly work with the robot system. The robot transport mechanism includes sliding rail and cross-wired lift. It carries the robot to a desired position for assembly work.
