  • This paper illustrates a new learning control for robot manipulators using Lyapunov direct method. It has been shown that under the proposed learning control robot manipulators are always guaranteed to be asymptotically stable with respect to the number of trials. The proposed control is also robust in the sense that the exact knowledge of the nonlinear dynamics is not required except for bounding functions on the magnitude.

  • In this paper, a learning control problem is formulated for cooperating multiple-robot manipulators with uncertain system parameters. The commonly held object is also assumed to be unknown and the multiple-robots themselfs experience uncertain operating conditions such as link parameters, viscous friction parameters, suctions, actuator bias, and etc. Under these conditions, the learning controllers designed for learning of uncertain parameters and robot control inputs for multiple-robot systems are shown to drive the multiple-robot manipulators to follow the desired Cartesian trajectory with the desired internal forces to the unknown object.

  • A modeling of the dynamics of two cooperating robot manipulators doing assembly job such as peg-in-hole while coordinating the payload along the desired path is proposed. The system is uncertain due to the unknown mass and moment of inertia of the manipulators and the payload. To control the system, a robust control algorithm is proposed. The control algorithm includes fuzzylogic. By the fuzzy logic, the magnitude of the input torque of the manipulators is controlled not to go over the hardware saturation with keeping path tracking errors bounded.

  • This paper is presents multivariable control scheme for industrial robot manipulators. The control scheme consists of two loops. The modeling error between linearized robot model and actual robot model is compensated in error compensation loop. The PID control loop is designed for pole assignment to stability of robot system and utilized for trajectory tracking. Alternatively computer simulation results are given for illustration purpose of suggested controller.

  • This paper proposes a decentralized robust adaptive control scheme for robot manipulators with input torque saturation in the presence of uncertainties. The control system should consider the practical problems that the controller gain coefficients of each joint may be nonlinear time-varying and the input torques applied at each joint are saturated. The proposed robot controller overcomes the various uncertainties and the input saturation problem. The proposed controller is comparatively simple and has no robot model parameters. The proposed controller is adjusted by the adaptation laws and the stability of the control system is guaranteed by the Lyapunov function analysis. Simulation results show the validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme.

  • In this paper, a novel neural network compensation technique for PD like fuzzy controlled robot manipulators is presented. A standard PD-like fuzzy controller is designed and used as a main controller for controlling robot manipulators. A neural network controller is added to the reference trajectories to modify input error space so that the system is robust to any change in system parameter variations. It forms a neural-fuzzy control structure and used to compensate for nonlinear effects. The ultimate goal is same as that of the neuro-fuzzy control structure, but this proposed technique modifies the input error not the fuzzy rules. The proposed scheme is tested to control the position of the 3 degrees-of-freedom rotary robot manipulator. Performances are compared with that of other neural network control structure known as the feedback error learning structure that compensates at the control input level.

  • We present a predictive control algorithm combined with the robust robot control that is constructed on the Lyapunov min-max approach. Since the control design of a real manipulator system may often be made on the basis of the imperfect knowledge about the model, it is an important trend to design a robust control law that guarantees the desired properties of the manipulator under uncertain elements. In the preceding robust control work, we need to tune several control parameters in the admissible set where the desired stability can be achieved. By introducing an optimal predictive control technique in robust control we can find out much more deterministic controller for both the stability and the performance of manipulators. A new class of robust control combined with an optimal predictive control is constructed. We apply it to a simple type of 2-link robot manipulator and show that a desired performance can be achieved through the computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a modeling of undersea robot manipulators and a control scheme appropriate for manipulating the manipulators working under the unstrcuctured sea water environment. Under the sea, the added mass and added moment of inertia, buoyancy, and drag forces should be considered in modeling the dynamics of the robot manipulators. Due to the complexity of them, the desired dynamics of manipulators can not be accomplished by the conventional control schemes. Hence, a sliding mode control is applied to control the modeling error.

  • In this paper, we present new control method for robot manipulators. The design objective can be the implementation of minimax controller with H$_{\infty}$ performance via LMI approach to guarantee the robustness and to obtain the exact tracking performance for robot manipulators with system parameter uncertainty and exogenous disturbance. We show that the Algebraic Riccati equation (ARE) which is needed for the construction of H$_{\infty}$ controller can be recast into the Algebraic Riccati Inequality (ARI) and the optimal control gain can be obtained by convex optimization method. Then, we will apply the proposed controller to rigid robot manipulators for verifying the performance of our controller.

  • This paper presents the robust control of robot manipulators using a decentralized control scheme. The control scheme decouples the coupling dynamics between the joints and compensates the joint variable errors without any computation of the dynamics. The performance of the control scheme is compared with that of other control schemes such as the computed torque scheme and the adaptive control scheme by simulation.
