  • A transportation problem in Korea is a serious issue that has to be solved urgently in the motor era of 15 million vehicles. Recently ITS has been introduced to improve efficiency of the current roads because an excessive budget and a long term construction are needed to build new roads. Therefore the government enacted the law as of ITS and the in architecture. However, these ITS information services were oriented to mainly vehicles and drivers, not public entities such as bus driver, passengers and so on. Nowadays lots of local autonomous city introduced a public transportation information system (PTIS), and providing useful information for the public. For this PTIS, important design issues are to be focused on detecting and tracking technology of moving bus, and a wireless communication link to transmit the location information. This paper presents design models using several wireless communication methods, and an implementation case using a Wireless packet Data communication Network (WDN) to transmit bus location information at Seoul, Korea.

  • The project of Construction of Siem Reap bypass road in Cambodia consists of alignment improvement of existing route, extension of width of road and laterite paving. This project is carried out by fast-track method on the design and construction for bypass road of 15.2 km length and 8m width for five months. Though some difficulties for the construction works such as the location of borrow pit and rock source, rainy seasons etc, the construction could be completed successfully owing to the cooperation of related authorities, company and residents. This 2 way Angkor detouring road will function as industrial roads in Siemreap region. These new two roads will not only bring better logistics requirements and safety, but also impact to poverty alleviation and preservation the beauty of the ecological environment of Angkor region. The basic information related to geotechnical engineering of this project is introduced.

  • There are very large differences on the standards of gross weight and single axle weight for commercial motor vehicles between international and Korean standards. Short Wheelbase Truck are produced and run only in Korea. It has very serious effects on the durabilities of bridges and roads and makes logistic competitive power fall back and overconsuming energy. This paper deals with a comparative study of the international standards with Korean, grasps the drawbacks and makes up the suggestions to strengthen the logistic competitive power of Korea and reduce the maintenance cost for the roads and the consumption of energy.

  • As the use of vehicle route application and LBS(location based service) are fast grew, the importance of maintaining road network data is also increased. To maintain road data accuracy, we can collect road data by driving real roads with probe vehicle, or using digital image processing for the extraction of roads from aerial imagery. After compare the new road data to current database, we can update the road database, but that job is mostly time and money consuming or can be inaccurate. In this paper, an updating method of using GPS(global positioning system) enabled cell phone is proposed. By using GPS phone, we can update road database easily and sufficiently accurately.

  • In this study, computer simulation program was using to identify the effects of road traffic noise propagation depending on the road types which are very variable in dense city. To achieve this goal, the roads should adjacent to housing complex were categorized into 7 types and propagation noise level should predicted then after simulation of noise exposure population calculation are carried out. Followings the results. First, the road types producing the higher noise level are R1, R2, R3 and R7. The lowest one is R6. And R4, R5 showed that some amount of noise level reduction. Second. the R6 road type which is tunnel shaped showed the highest noise level reduction in vertical distance gap. Last, the order of noise exposure population ratio is R1>R2>R7 and R6 showed the lowest.

  • In this paper, we design a prototype service in Telematics environment for providing safety warning notification at crooked roads efficiently using wireless sensor network. Through this study, we 1) analyze several requirements to be satisfied in the services, 2) design and implement the service architecture based on the requirements.

  • PURPOSES : This study was done to model the headway distribution of rural two lane roads. METHODS : Time headway data for the various level of traffic volumes was measured in twelve sites. Based on the time headway data, existing seven mathematical models were evaluated and selected by comparing graphically the measured and theoretical distributions and conducting the Chi-square test. RESULTS : The results show that both the Schul model and Composite Model were the most appropriate models of the models. Based on the measured time-headway distributions, this study proposed a new headway distribution model by the shift of the Schul model. CONCLUSIONS : The shifted Schul model has the ability to describe time headway distirbutons for random, intermediate, and constant-headway states.

  • This paper proposed an effect analysis method that meets the characteristics and purposes of the revitalization project for old industrial complexes, and quantified the economical effects about the project in Jeollabuk-do by case analysis. The problems on the existing effect analysis about revitalization project for old industrial complexes, estimated as transportation benefits on the main entrance roads plan and the increased rent benefits on the internal roads and other plans, were examined. In addition, the land use plan ratio on the old industrial complexes compared to the averages, and the surveys to the residential company were conducted. And this paper finally proposed an effect analysis methodology for the revitalization project for old Industrial Complexes in consideration of the increase in the operation rate and the added values through the conversion to high value-added industrial sectors. It was analyzed that new value added of KRW 743,278 million can be generated for next 30 years when the revitalization project for old Industrial Complexes in Jeollabuk-do is implemented.

  • An important factor of vibration test using MAST(multi axial simulation table) system is the reliance of input excitation source. Generally the generation of input excitation source is obtained by the measured data on special road in proving ground. The measured data on special road have more exciting energy than the data of real fields, therefore the time and expense for test can be reduced. But the magnitude of input excitation source must be defined by comparison with the excited energy on real field. The object of this paper makes the data base of domestic roads for the definition of input excitation source which is obtained by the measured data on special road in proving ground. These real field data on domestic roads are analyzed by the power spectral density and interrelationship index.

  • This study is focused on the analysis of road extracting accuracy from the high resolution IKONOS satellite image data. A geometric correction of the image is performed using the RFM and interpretation with the screen digitizing is also performed for extracting the roads information. For the evaluation of road extracting accuracy, the road locations and the road widths are compared with the national digital map. The comparison results shows that the road boundary and the size of road width are able to extract with the geometric accuracy of $\pm$3.4m and $\pm$1.1m.
