  • Cyanobacteria were sampled at five sites in the Han River, Nakdong River, and Geum River watershed from June 2014 to May 2015 and then cultivated. Two genera and five species of the cyanobacteria were newly recorded in Korea. The newly recorded species were Limnothrix redekei, Pseudanabaena galeata, Pseudanabaena amphigranulata, Sphaerospermopsis aphanizomenoides, and Calothrix parietina. As a result, the Korean flora of the cyanobacteria now include four orders, 22 families with 73 genera, 143 species, and two varieties, giving a total of 146 taxa.

  • This study is for deriving an evaluation system which fits to the domestic urban river. For this, two times of Delphi survey was conducted to various experts who are eminent for ecology, urban design, governance, landscape architecture, hydrology. The purpose was for analysing validity and getting extra opinion of evaluation items which were preferentially have chosen. Reflecting $1^{st}$ survey's opinions as changing the word or explaining more details, the second survey was conducted, In this time, all evaluation items were analysed as valid and experts agreed with that. In conclusion, the evaluation items, "Amenity", "Biodiversity", "Ecosystem service", "Governance", "Management", which are for evaluating domestic urban river environment were derived.

  • Nitrifying bacteria were detected by fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) method at 6 sampling sites with different eutrophication degree in the Nak-Dong River and their tributaries. And conventional physico-chemical parameters including $NH_4-N$, $NO_3-N$, and TN were determined concurrently. In rainy period (July), there was no noticeable difference between the number of ammonia/nitrite-oxidizing bacteria detected at each site except Sang-Ju and the ratio of nitrifying bacteria to total counts stained by DAPI varied in 6~33%. By contrast, in the dry period (October), both of bacterial population was increased differently and the ratio of nitrifying bacteria to total counts ranged more widely from 6% in heavily polluted water zone, Hwa-Won to 60% in upper tributary with high agricultural land use. Byung-Sung-Chun. In January, the numbers of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria was reduced up to one tenth, while those of nitrite-oxidizing bacteria was apparently increased maybe due to high DO and low DOC.

  • Concentrations of aliphatic hydrocarbons in water, particulate matter, and sediment phase were measured at five stations in Gyeongan River. Aliphatic hydrocarbons from $n-C_{10}$ to $n-C_{17}$ were detected in the water phase and they might be originated from not only biogenic hydrocarbons also petroleum hydrocarbon. $n-C_{17}$ aliphatic hydrocarbon and fatty acids were detected in the particulate matter phase. They might be originated from biological sources such as phytoplankton. Short alkane chains from $n-C_{10}$ to $n-C_{13}$ were detected in the sediment phase. They might be originated from sedimentation of biological hydrocarbons decomposed by bacteria or adsorption of petroleum hydrocarbon from the water phase.

  • Many studies have been conducted to develop new technologies for arsenic removal and to reveal the levels of arsenic and other chemicals in rivers, lakes and ground waters. However, there are few studies dealing with such compounds in the total water system of the city, and the way of management of these compounds in the water system. Because the occurrence of these hazardous compounds, which are geological origins, is almost impossible to control, it is very important to manage these compounds in the water system. In this research, it was revealed that the risk of arsenic in the water treatment system of S city in Japan. As a results, the parameters such as Q in river and E260 in drinking water treatment plant is proposed as a new indicator with simple and rapid method for controling arsenic level.

  • The main purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of urbanization on the groundwater system in the Gap river basin, a sub-basin of the Geum river basin. In this analysis, we constructed a water cycle analysis system using SWAT. Then, changes in soil moisture and recharge rate due to land-use changes were investigated using different land-use data estimated in 1975 and 2000. Simulation results were analyzed for both draught (2001) and flood (2003) years to take into account different hydrologic conditions. It was shown that recharge rate in the most urbanized area (31% change) was reduced by 17% for both periods due to urbanization. The results also indicated that soil moisture decrease due to urbanization was more sensitive in the drought year (2001) than in the flood year (2003), We expect that the results of this research can contribute to providing useful information for managing urban rivers considering river restoration and flood control.

Some Consideration of Groundwater Quality Characteristics in Nakdong River Region - Analysis of Correlation between Electrical Conductivity(EC) and Total Dissolved Solid(TDS) - (낙동강권역 지하수 수질 특성 고찰 - 전기전도도와 총고용물 함량의 상관성 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • Groundwater qualities in Nakdong river region were investigated during 1999 and 2000. Groundwater samples were collected twice from about 150 sites over the region. The EC and TDS obtained in first survey (October, 1999) show rather high values than those in second survey(April, 2000) and this seems to be caused by groundwater temperature. There is obvious positive correlation between EC and TDS. For the study area, the following equation can be written : TDS(mg/l) = <0.64~0.70> x EC($mutextrm{s}$/cm). As the concentration of major ions increases in natural condition, there is a tendency that the ratio of TDS and EC has consistent value. This observation suggests that TDS measurement can be replaced by EC measurement in the some ranges.

  • Variations of water quality parameters were investigated for last 13 years in Han river. Deviation from 3 month moving average was suggested for the variation analysis. Many parameters of mainstream and tributaries showed similar monthly fluctuations. Suspended solid of mainstream showed higher fluctuation than that of tributaries due to summer flood. Contrarily, the organic parameters such as BOD, COD, and TN showed lower fluctuations in the mainstreams. The magnitude of deviation was in the order of pH < DO, COD, temp. < BOD, TN < TP, SS. Strong correlation was found in BOD data of adjacent sites. Main sites showed low deviation in comparison to adjacent common sites of mainstream (1:2.4). Mainstream showed low deviation in comparison to tributaries (1:1.7). Seasonal tendency of monthly BOD was confirmed using autocorrelation function. The deviation was in inverse proportion to the magnitude of BOD.

  • This research introduces some preliminary results of bank filtering intake method adopted ill Backam area, Yongin city. This bank infiltration had been supplied to water resources of 750 m$^3$/day to Backam-myun, in 2002. It is believed that the bank infilteration method can afford to supply backam-myun people, Youngin city. The analysis of pumping data along the river shows the water supply pattern. Monitoring data of 1-6 pumping stations on the decline of water table along river sides and basic data on hydrogeologic properties are used to analyze the spatial disturbance range of groundwater systems due to the river pumping system.
