Deoxygenation process in which CBOD(carbonaceous BOD) is biochemically oxidized to reduced inorganic compounds is of great significance in the oxygen demand of stream waters. The CBOD decay rate has traditionally been determined in a laboratory by CBOD bottle incubation method. But in this study, CBOD decay rates were obtained by laboratory incubation method and natural waters experiment. Average CBOD decay rate for the Nakdong river(upper zone) in natural waters were 0.553 $day^{-1}$ during April 2005 to January 2007. The values in the middle and down parts of the Nakdong river in natural waters were 0.384 $day^{-1}$ and 0.252 $day^{-1}$ at the same period of time, respectively. Average CBOD decay rates using by incubation method in the upper/middle/down parts of the main stream in the Nakdong river basin was 0.270 $day^{-1}$, and 0.289 $day^{-1}$, and 0.283 $day^{-1}$ during April 2005 to January 2007, respectively.
The quality of surface water is a very important issue to use various demands like as drinking water, industrial, agricultural and recreational usages. There has been an increasing demand for monitoring water quality of many rivers by regular measurements of various water quality variables. However precise and effective monitoring is not enough, if the acquired dataset is not analyzed thoroughly. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate differences of seasonal and regional water quality using multivariate data analysis for each investing tributaries in Han River. Statistical analysis was applied to the data concerning 11 mainly parameters (flow, water temperature, pH, EC, DO, BOD, COD, SS, TN, TP and TOC) for the time period 2012~2016 from 12 sampling sites. The seasonal water quality variations showed that each of BOD, TN, TP and TOC average concentration in spring and winter was higher than that of summer and fall, respectively. In summer each flow rate and average concentration of SS was higher than any other seasons, respectively. The correlation analysis were explained that EC had a strong relationship with BOD (r=0.857), COD (r=0.854), TN (r=0.899) and TOC (r=0.910). According to principal component analysis, five principal components (Eigenvalue > 1) are controlled 98.0% of variations in water quality. The first component included TP, DO, pH. The second component included EC, TN. The third component included SS. The fourth component included flow. The last component included Temp. Cluster analysis classified that spring is similar to fall and winter with water quality parameters. AnyA, WangsA, JungrA and TancA were identified as affected by organic pollution. Cluster analysis derived seasonal differences with investigating sites and better explained the principal component analysis results.

Nihombashi district, which is located in a heart of Tokyo Metropolitan area, has been flourished as a Japanese economic and cultural center since Tokyo was developed as a capital. Nihombashi district has still remained the Edo idea of stylishness since the government of Edo was established in 1603. During Edo period, population of Edo (former name of Tokyo) reached one million. Edo became one of big city around the world. Nihombashi district has been transformed as economical, financial and cultural center, along with modern transformation of Tokyo. During high economic growth (1955-1975), Nihombashi Bridge and River, which used to a symbol of Tokyo, have been covered with elevated highways. The river was polluted whereas the river does not have any relationship with people's daily activities. Since Japan has focused on environment concern in 80's, people and companies in Nihombashi district and Nihombashi River also requested to restore Nihombashi district and Nihombashi River. There are a lot of projects going on related to regenerate the river and the community, such as to remove highways covered with the river, restore river environment and run water navigation. This article mentioned to introduce the project of Nihombashi River and Nihombashi district that regenerate the community to capitalize history and geographic characteristics in Nihombashi district, to run water navigation through the river, and to review outcomes through various projects.
Citizen perception is increasingly emphasized as one of the critical factors in establishing public policies including river management. Our results show that citizens expect integrated river management by specialized river management organization. We found that the river condition was perceived more negatively than the actual status of water quality and river ecosystem by citizens. The gap in perception implies that it is important to restore the reliability of river management. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage organizations with public trust to participate in river management. and credible river management policies should be established and implemented.
This study focuses on whether a physical habitat model, River2D, is useful to assess and design stream restoration. To achieve the aim, the habitat suitability for Zacco Platypus was analyzed using River2D at midstream of the Anyang-Cheon through modifying the low flow channel and changing the flow discharge. The River2D simulation results show that the inhabited environment for Zacco Platypus is improved by increasing the sinuosity of the low flow channel, and vice versa. Also the inhabited environment for Zacco Platypus gets worse when there is no additional flow for maintenance water supply at the stream flowing through cities. In this respect, the physical habitat simulation study based on the River2D model is useful because it provides a practical guidance in designing stream restoration.

The arrangement of small streams in rural area, in the past times, attached importance to the prevention of flood damage through the straightening and lining of streams. Recently, the way of small stream arrangement is introducing the idea of water friendly environment or friendly space. As a result, there has been much concern with water favorable river management model which may lead to control flood. However, it is very difficult to develop a model applicable to all types of rivers, since each river has different flow velocity, flow amount and unique ecological characteristics. In this study, photo processing technique, one of landscape simulation methods, has been adopted because it helps to visually express and comprehensively evaluate pre and post scenery and easily applicable. Some important guideline and technique for the planning of small stream landscape arrangement are mentioned in this study. The simulation system for acquiring water favorable space and arranging landscapes needs to develop database which can forecast various types of landscape. It may also be used for the bases of planning and designing river environment arrangement. Computer aided image processing system enables to make selective planning in river environment arrangement. It may also enables to develop the methods for river environment development, ecology conservation, and multipurpose space utilization. Moreover, it makes economic river arrangement by applying river environment arrangement methods relevant to geographical characteristics. There are some limitations in this study, such as shortage of exact investigation on the stream direction and velocity in landscape arrangement. Continuous monitoring and research may be required to develop techniques through the application of computer graphics and digital image processing.
To evaluate the geochemical characteristics and assess the pollution in surface sediments of the Nakdong River estuary, two sites adjacent to the estuary bank (Hh1 and Hh2) and one site at the upper part of the estuary bank (Hh3) were investigated. The surface sediments were analyzed for their contents of metals (Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr, Zn, and Al), organic matter (IL, COD, TOC, and TN), and grain size from 2018 to 2020. As a result of the pollution assessment, there was little anthropogenic contamination by most of the metals. The surface sediments in Hh2 had comparatively abundant silt and clay, whereas the other sites were mainly composed of sand. The organic index and contents of organic matter were highest at Hh2. Multivariate statistical analyses (cluster analysis and Pearson correlation analysis) showed that the contents of organic matter and pollution were associated with fine sediment. These results suggest that the geochemical characteristics were changed by the estuary bank built in the research area and that the increase in fine sediment attributable to the low-energy environment resulted in an increase in organic matter pollution.

This study analyzed the changes in land-cover and sedimentary environment before and after flooding through drone images and sediment analysis for the Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland. The results showed that the area of some land-covers such as sand bar, grass, and trees were continuously changed. The acidity level of the sediments in the Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland was weakened gradually by flooding and EC was also decreased. The levels of organic matter, effective phosphoric acid, and CEC, however, were fluctuating depending on branches, which seems to be the result of landization as new sedimentary environment was developed and vegetation was settled after the flood. Average mean size of river sediments was found to be fine sand, and it exhibited various particle size characteristics from granule to medium silt depending on the location. As the sedimentary environment changed due to the effects of floods and typhoons, the particles were granulated or grain refined depending on the position. In the Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland, there were factors that could interfere with geomorphic development and sedimentary environment, contamination sources in and around the wetland, and natural threat factors. Therefore, in this study, a conservation and management plan was proposed to remove these threat factors and to preserve the scarcity, naturalness, and dynamics of Seomjin River Chimsil Wetland.
In this study, the watershed and water body models were linked for the simulation of the Nakding river flow. This is a pre-step study for the estimation of the effect of the flow and water quality on the climate change. For models of watershed and river flow, the SWAT and EFDC were used, respectively. The runoff discharge at each boundary points for the simulation of the river flow was provided from the drainage basin model. The calculated runoff discharge by the SWAT model was compared with the measured data of the Ministry of Environment at 13 locations along the Nakdong river and 30 locations along the tributary streams. The computed water discharge was shown to be similar with the measured data. For the model calibration and verification, % difference, NSE, and $R^2$ were computed. The computed % difference was within 15% except of a few points. The NSE and $R^2$ were also within a fair level. The Nakdong river flow of 2007 was simulated by using the EFDC model. The comparison with the measured data showed that the model reflected the actual values of low and high flow well. Also, it was confirmed that the acceleration and deceleration in the curved areas were appropriately simulated. The movement of dye injected at the upstream boundary was simulated. The result showed that the arrival time up to the estuary dam was computed to be about 65 days.
