As interest in sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources is increasing due to various problems in the carbon society, a hydrogen economy using hydrogen as a main energy source is emerging. While the natural gas reforming method generates carbon dioxide, the water electrolysis method based on renewable energy is eco-friendly. The water electrolysis device currently being developed uses a 2 Nm3/hr class alkaline aqueous solution as an electrolyte and produces hydrogen based on renewable energy. In this study, risk assessment was conducted for these water electrolysis devices
In general, a number of severe accident scenarios derived from Level 2 probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) are typically grouped into several categories to efficiently evaluate their potential impacts on the public with the assumption that scenarios within the same group have similar source term characteristics. To date, however, grouping by similar source terms has been completely reliant on qualitative methods such as logical trees or expert judgements. Recently, an exhaustive simulation approach has been developed to provide quantitative information on the source terms of a large number of severe accident scenarios. With this motivation, this paper proposes a machine learning-based categorization method based on exhaustive simulation for grouping scenarios with similar accident consequences. The proposed method employs clustering with an autoencoder for grouping unlabeled scenarios after dimensionality reductions and feature extractions from the source term data. To validate the suggested method, source term data for 658 severe accident scenarios were used. Results confirmed that the proposed method successfully characterized the severe accident scenarios with similar behavior more precisely than the conventional grouping method.

While the local plant market is reducing its volume, the plant market over the world since 2000s is rapidly expanding. The nation's construction companies, aggressively dedicated in launching out overseas plant market, increase the volume of orders in that sector, but there also are much difficulty in the project management as those projects ordered are gradually large scaled with more cutting-edge high-tech requirements along with comparatively higher risk. Though the local construction companies have developed their own types of measures to analyze the risk evaluation putting into practice, the specialized decision-making model for the overseas plant market or the risk measure understandable easily and applicable practically is not yet shown. This paper aims at providing the methodology to evaluate the risk by way of constructing the risk evaluation process in order to induce risk measuring elements through appropriate indexing system. Furthermore, through studying the risk management system, it aims to seek for a thorough risk management method from beginning of the project to the end.

In line with the increased usability of utility pipe conduits in urban areas, construction and R&D activities of utility tunnel, incorporated with the shield TBM method, are actively under way. The utility tunnels are installed through underground excavation, and thus are relatively weak in terms of construction safety. However, hazards associated with the utility tunnel construction have not been properly identified, despite the introduction of a policy to the 'Design for Safety' for the purpose of reducing accident rates in the construction industry. Therefore, in this study, following the derivation of hazards associated with utility tunnel, these hazards were then used as the basis to uncover key safety hazards requiring extensive management in a field, which were then used to conduct a risk assessment having applied the matrix method so that the results can be utilized in risk assessment during the stages of utility tunnel planning, design, and construction, while also serving as a data reference.
Every summer in our country, an accident occurs, in which the retaining wall on a steep slope collapses due to torrential rain. According to the data on the results of steep slope risk assessment in 2019, over 780 retaining walls are below grade C; therefore, preparing for countermeasures is urgent. However, due to the limited budget for the repair and reinforcement of these retaining walls, it is necessary to discuss the investment prioritization. In this study, a prioritization method was proposed at the network and project levels along with the review of the revised criteria of disaster risk assessment in the steep slope retaining wall, and an application research in the network level was conducted for six retaining walls. Moreover, it is proposed that the priority index was determined by using the actual cost for repair and reinforcement in determination of the project level prioritization.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of braden scale to assess pressure ulcer risk patients and to identify additional risk factors of pressure sores in an neurologic intensive care unit. Method: The subjects of this study were 66 patients in neurologic intensive care units. Data was prospectively collected from Sep. to Dec., 2002. Data were analyzed by mean, percentage, t-test, chi-square, discriminant analysis using Spss pc+. Result: The results of this study were as follows: 1) There was a significant difference between scoring of braden scale and pressure ulcer development. The subscales that predicted pressure ulcer development using braden scale only were sensory perception, moisture, mobility, friction & shear. By using these subscales, sensitivity was 86.7%, and specificity was 61.1%, and total hit ratio was 72.7%. 2) Additional pressure ulcer risk factors which showed significance for discriminating two group were protein, albumin, gender, level of consciousness, pattern of bowel elimination. By using the combination of these additional risk factors in addition to the braden scale, total hit ratio increased to 84.8%. Conclusion: This data suggest that albumin, protein, gender, level of consciousness, pattern of bowel elimination in addition to the braden scale should be included in the pressure sore assessment tool.

Baiyangdian Lake, the largest freshwater lake in North China, is known as 'Pearl of North China' and 'kidney of North China' fur its abundant products and multiple ecological services. However, from the 1970s, due to the ever-increasing discharge of polluted water from upstream rivers, it has been severely polluted. Sediment Investigation and analysis were conducted on contents of heavy metal (Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb) from Baiyangdian Lake in June 2004. Results showed that pollution situation at downriver regions are more serious than that of upstream regions. The seriously polluted spots are access of Fuhe River, original wastewater reservoir of Tanghe River, densely populated Chunshui Village and Wangjiazhai Village. By using method of the potential ecological risk assessment, the heavy metal evaluation of polluted sediment has been conducted. The results showed that the contents of Cd and Pb were very high in sediment of Baiyangdian Lake. There were extremely stronger ecological risk for Cd and slight- medium ecological risk for Pd. According to the current situation of Baiyangdian Lake, countermeasures and suggestions have been put forward.
A seismic margin assessment evaluates how much margin exists for the system under beyond design basis earthquake events. Specifically, the seismic margin for the entire system is evaluated by utilizing a systems analysis based on the sub-system and component seismic fragility data. Each seismic fragility curve is obtained by using empirical, experimental, and/or numerical simulation data. The systems analysis is generally performed by employing a fault tree analysis. However, the current practice has clear limitations in that it cannot deal with the uncertainties of basic components and accommodate the newly observed data. Therefore, in this paper, we present a Bayesian-based seismic margin assessment that is conducted using seismic fragility data and fault tree analysis including Bayesian inference. This proposed approach is first applied to the pooltype nuclear research reactor system for the quantitative evaluation of the seismic margin. The results show that the applied approach can allow updating by considering the newly available data/information at any level of the fault tree, and can identify critical scenarios modified due to new information. Also, given the seismic hazard information, this approach is further extended to the real-time risk evaluation. Thus, the proposed approach can finally be expected to solve the fundamental restrictions of the current method.
A CCTV inspection method has been widely used to assess sewer condition and performance, but Korea lacks a proper decision support system for prioritizing sewer repair and rehabilitation (R&R). The objective of this paper is to introduce the results that we have developed in the Sewer Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation Decision-making (SCARD) Program using MS-EXCEL. The SCARD-Program is based on a standardized defect score for sewer structural and hydraulic assessment. Priorities are ranked based on risk scores, which are calculated by multiplying the sewer severity scores by the environmental impacts. This program is composed of three parts, which are decision-making for sewer condition and performance assessment, decision-making for sewer R&R priority assessment, and decision-making for optimal budget allocation. The SCARD-Program is useful for decision-makers, as it enables them to assess the sewer condition and to prioritize sewer R&R within the limited annual budget. In the future, this program logic will applied to the GIS-based sewer asset management system in local governments.
The applications of computers and communication system and network technologies in nuclear power plants have expanded recently. This application of digital technologies to the instrumentation and control systems of nuclear power plants brings with it the cyber security concerns similar to other critical infrastructures. Cyber security risk assessments for digital instrumentation and control systems have become more crucial in the development of new systems and in the operation of existing systems. Although the instrumentation and control systems of nuclear power plants are similar to industrial control systems, the former have specifications that differ from the latter in terms of architecture and function, in order to satisfy nuclear safety requirements, which need different methods for the application of cyber security risk assessment. In this paper, the characteristics of nuclear power plant instrumentation and control systems are described, and the considerations needed when conducting cyber security risk assessments in accordance with the lifecycle process of instrumentation and control systems are discussed. For cyber security risk assessments of instrumentation and control systems, the activities and considerations necessary for assessments during the system design phase or component design and equipment supply phase are presented in the following 6 steps: 1) System Identification and Cyber Security Modeling, 2) Asset and Impact Analysis, 3) Threat Analysis, 4) Vulnerability Analysis, 5) Security Control Design, and 6) Penetration test. The results from an application of the method to a digital reactor protection system are described.
