In the wake of expanding and overpopulating urban areas, traffic congestion has been worsening increasingly, causing huge economic losses. In a bid to effectively use the space of metropolitan areas, the construction and operation of a double deck tunnel has been on the rise. On the other hand, a lower height of a double deck tunnel is expected to generate more smoke and soot in a fire than other usual tunnels. Therefore, it is undesirable to apply the standard for fire intensity or smoke generation, which were designed for existing road tunnels. A part of an effort to propose a design fire curve that is useful for double deck tunnel, is intended to obtain and analyze the fire characteristics in a double deck tunnel through a real scale fire test. The test was conducted according to the fire scenario with one passenger car and two passenger cars; the monitored fire intensity was a maximum of 2.4 MW and 3.5 MW, respectively.

The temporal variability in near-field mixing characteristics of discharging plumes in oceanic environment was investigated using the time series data of the buoyant jet parameters. Based on the currents and density profiles observed in Masan outfall site and effluent discharge flowrates for 63days of summer season, the temporal variabilities and those occurrence frequency were obtained by line plume equations. The results show that wide range of variability in Masan outfall's mixing characteristics was found due to the temporal changes of effluent flowrates and ambient oceanic conditions. The near-field dilution was in the range of 30~71 with the averaged dilution of 34, which was a good agreement with field measurements of salinity deficit. The length of mixing zone was in the range of 5.4~36.2 m with the average of 9.5 m, and the plume rise height was in the range of 8.1~10.2 m with the average of 8.9 m. However, only the 30~44% of the whole results are higher than the averages, which indicates the necessity of this frequency analysis with the continuously measured data for designing and managing the ocean outfall system.

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were grown on a Si wafer by using thermal chemical vapor deposition (t-CVD). We investigated the effect of the catalyst deposition rate on the types of CNTs grown on the substrate. In general, smaller islands of catalyst occur by agglomeration of a catalyst layer upon annealing as the catalyst layer becomes thinner, which results in the growth of CNTs with smaller diameters. For the same thickness of catalyst, a slower deposition rate will cause a more uniformly thin catalyst layer, which will be agglomerated during annealing, producing smaller catalyst islands. Thus, we can expect that the smaller-diameter CNTs will grow on the catalyst deposited with a lower rate even for the same thickness of catalyst. The 0.5-nm-thick Fe served as a catalyst, underneath which Al was coated as a catalyst support as well as a diffusion barrier on the Si substrate. The catalyst layers were. coated by using thermal evaporation. The deposition rates of the Al and Fe layers varied to be 90, 180 sec/nm and 70, 140 sec/nm, respectively. We prepared the four different combinations of the deposition rates of the AI and Fe layers. CNTs were synthesized for 10 min by flowing 60 sccm of Ar and 60 sccm of $H_2$ as a carrier gas and 20 sccm of $C_2H_2$ as a feedstock at 95 torr and $810^{\circ}C$. The substrates were subject to annealing for 20 sec for every case to form small catalyst islands prior to CNT growth. As-grown CNTs were characterized by using field emission scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis NIR spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The fast deposition of both the Al and Fe layers gave rise to the growth of thin multiwalled CNTs with the height of ${\sim}680\;{\mu}m$ for 10 min while the slow deposition caused the growth of ${\sim}800\;{\mu}m$ high SWCNTs. Several radial breathing mode (RBM) peaks in the Raman spectra were observed at the Raman shifts of $113.3{\sim}281.3\;cm^{-1}$, implying the presence of SWCNTs (or double-walled CNTs) with the tube diameters 2.07~0.83 nm. The Raman spectra of the as-grown SWCNTs showed very low G/D peak intensity ratios, indicating their low defect concentrations.
Culture conditions for high Sequency somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in tissue cultures of sweet potato of two Korean cultivars 'Puyojaerae' and 'Yulmi' are described. Shoot apical meristem explants (height 150 $\mu\textrm{m}$; base: 350 $\mu\textrm{m}$) were cultured on MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D. After 6 weeks of culture, greater than 80% of the survived explants produced embryogenic calli. When transferred onto MS medium with 0.1 mg/L each of 2,4-D and kinetin, the calli gave rise to somatic embryos at frequencies of 71% ('Puyojaerae') and 63% ('Yulmi'), respectively: When somatic embryos at various developmental stages measured in length were transversely cut into two halves and cultured on MS medium with 1 mg/L 2,L-D, the upper halves produced secondary embryos more frequently than the lower ones, and halves of somatic embryos less than 1 mm in length had a higher competence for secondary embryo formation than longer ones of either cultivar. However 'Puyojaerae' somatic embryo halves showed a higher frequency of secondary embryo formation than 'Yulmi' ones on the whole. Upon transfer onto MS basal medium, most of the primary and secondary somatic embryos underwent development into plantlets. The plantlets were transplanted to potting soil and grown to maturity in a phytotron. The overall results suggest that the shoot apical meristem culture system for somatic embryo formation in sweet potato previously established by us (SABRAOJ 21: 93-101) may be applicable regardless of it genotypes.
Although a number of studies have been performed to assure that residual stress caused by a mismatch of alloy porcelain thermal expansion can contribute to clinical failure of a ceramometal restoration, the interactive influence of cooling rate on the magnitude of thermal expansion difference and on bond strength between them have not been extensively analyzed. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of cooling rate and the number of firing cycles on the expansion mismatch and the flexural failure resistance of metal porcelain strip. Tested alloys included one Pd-Ag alloy, one Ni-Cr-Be alloy with two kinds of porcelain, Vita and Ceramco. Metal specimens were cast into rods with a height of 13mm and a diameter of 5mm. Subsequently, the castings were subjected to scheduled firing cycles without porcelain. And the porcelain specimens after being fired were trimmed into a bar with a final dimension of $5{\times}5{\times}25mm$. Thermal expansions of the alloys and porcelains were measured by using a push rod or a differential dialometer respecitvely. Porcelain glass transition temperatures and expansion values were derived alloy-porcelain pairs were assessed by comparing expansion values of the components at a porcelain glass transition temperature. Calculations were made using combinations of a Ni-Cr alloy or Pd-Ag alloy with each of two porcelain products. Metal-porcelain strip specimens were subjected to four point loading in an Instron testing machine until crack occured at the metal-cramic interface at the time of sharp decrease of load on recorder. On the basis of this study, the following conclusions may be stated: 1. Regardless of the kinds of ceramometal combinations, both of calculated and experimental data revealed that the double fired specimens exhibited a significantly lower flexural strength. 2. By the rise of the amount of mismatch, bond strength were decreased. 3. Thermal expansion value of Pd-Ag alloys were higher than that of Ni-Cr alloys. 4. Expansion curves of metal were proportional to the increase of temperature and were not affected by the experimental conditions, however porcelains did not show the same magnitude of metal, and a shift of the glass transition temperature to higher temperatures was observed when cooled rapidly 5. Alloy-porcelain thermal compatibility appeared more dependent on the porcelain than the alloy.
U.S. apparel brands are being imported to Korea more than any other country's apparel brands. Against this backdrop, this study intends to verify the fitness of U.S. apparels for Korean people in terms of size. To this end, the authors selected 25 American and 25 Korean women in their twenties and studied the differences of these two groups with regard to the size of their lower body parts. In addition, the authors analyzed how the size of each part of the lower body changes according to different postures. All the study subjects were required to be able to wear medium-sized pants of the U.S. apparel. The results of the present study are shown below. The American women were bigger than the Korean counterparts in leg length, hip circumference, thigh circumference, and all height-related sizes. However, the Koreans were bigger than their peers in lengths from waist to crotch; crotch length, body rise and the length from front waist point to hip line. Standing posture was used as a yardstick, when the changes in size according to the different postures were examined. The results indicate that hip and knee circumferences increased in the sitting posture. In particular, hip circumference significantly increased in the American women group. Regarding length-related sizes, increases and decreases in sizes for different lower body parts differed according to the posture. For a walking posture with ordinary strides, the front crotch length decreased while the back crotch length increased. This tendency was more notably observed for Korean women. The American woman clearly showed a decrease in outside leg length for all postures. The Korean women obviously presented an increase in the front center leg length for the sitting posture and for the posture where the knees were bent at $120^{\circ}$. The length from the front waist point to the hip line significantly declined in the Korean woman for the sitting posture and for the walking posture with ordinary strides.

Two regular progressive wave trains, the directions of which are slightly different from each other, develop a honeycomb pattern of wave crests due to their nonlinear interaction. In the honeycomb pattern of wave crest, the nodal line area, which has very low wave energy, is formed. When the honeycomb pattern is developed near the beach area, rip current evolves through the nodal line area formed in the cross shore direction. In this study, to confirm that the formation of honeycomb pattern of waves near the beach area is a dominant mechanism of rip current occurred at Haeundae beach, we performed a numerical simulation of nearshore circulation at Haeundae beach under an unidirectional and monochromatic wave condition by using a nonlinear Boussinesq equation model. As a result, wave refraction due to topographical characteristics (i.e., submerged shoal) of Haeundae gave rise to several wave trains propagating with slightly different directions toward the beach, and consequently rip currents well developed through the nodal line area of honeycomb patterns of wave crest. In addition, we found that a narrow-banded spectral wave condition (i.e., a swell spectrum) increases more likelihood of rip current than a broad-banded spectral wave condtion based on the simulations employing various wave spectra with an equivalent wave height and period.
Variability of sea levels at Mukho and Ullungdo and sea level difference(SLD) associated with current is investigated. Time series of adjusted sea levels at both places have very similar pattern of change. Two components appear to contribute to the correlation between sea level and SLD. Low frequency thermosteric effect causes the sea level to rise and fall at the same time. Geostrophic effect of major currents is responsible for the sea level change in opposite ways at both sides. Two contributions have a cancelling effect for sea level change at Mukho while they are additive at Ullungdo. Characteristics of time series in frequency domain are divided into two parts with respect to 0.01 cycles per day(cpd). At Mukho, the cancelling effect yields small values of coherence for low-frequency bands whereas the dominant geostrophic influence may be responsible for the phase relations of about $\pm 180^{\circ}$ between sea level and SLD at higher frequency. Bimonthly dynamic height difference(DHD) between Mukho and Ullungdo is very significantly correlated with SLD. This result suggests that DHD thus the average velocity of current through the Mukho-Ullungdo section can successfully be diagnosed by the sea level records at both locations. For the annual variations, maximum SLD occurs at Mukho-Ullungdo section about 40 days later than the Korea Strait.
The poster in America was considered merely a means of advertising until the late 1880s, and was not thought to have any intrinsic value. During the 1890s, the poster in America came into its own as a medium of artistic expression, and it was recognized anew as an medium of advertising. The production and circulation of posters became active, and it won the popularity of poster collectors. But the American poster renaissance flourished for a few brief years in the 1890s. In this thesis, I paid attention that the art poster in America was mainly a product of the publishing trade, and that it's rise and fall was connected with the circumstances of the publishing business. In chapterII, I discussed the growth of publishing business and the phenomenon of poster craze, and tried to figure out the characteristic of American poster design in 1890s. The American poster boom was formally initiated in Spring 1893, when Edward Penfield published the first of his monthly designs advertising Harper's Magazine. Penfield created a native American tradition of realism in the series of Harper's posters, his figures are realistic though anonymous, and are drawn without distortion or grotesquery, and details are reduced to essentials but not eliminated. In chapterIII, I discussed the change in book cover design in the 1890s. The rapid evolution of book and magazine covers was largely a reaction to the poster craze. Most magazines were issued with the same standard covers month after month at that time. In 1894, when William Bradley was asked to design a standard cover for the Inland Printer, he convinced the publishers to change the cover with every issue instead of designing one permanent cover. With the poster craze at its height, posters became big business, but still they were not very successful as advertisements. Because collectors of the 1890s were more interested in acquiring posters than in buying books. Significantly, this was also the moment when poster like designs began to appear on the covers of books and mass magazines. Publishers took notice of an idea. If the eye-catching design was on the cover itself rather than on a separate poster, the customer who wished to acquire the design would be obliged to buy the magazine. So there was no distinction stylistically between the posters of the 1890s and the magazine covers of the early 1900s. At the same time, the artistic poster was beginning to decline. While the most typical advertisements of the 1890s were the book and magazine posters of Bradley and Penfield, after 1900 advertisements for manufacturers' products played an increasingly prominent role. They would never again assume the leading role that they had played in the 1890s.
For years, physicians and anatomists have been interested in the heart that has one functioning ventricle. Various terms have been suggested for this entity including single ventricle, common ventricle, double-inlet left ventricle, cor biatriatum triloculare, and primitive ventricle. In this report, the term "single ventricle" is utilized as suggested by Van Praagh, and is defined as that congenital cardiac anomaly in which a common or separate atrioventricular valves open into a ventricular chamber from which both great arterial trunks emerge. An outlet chamber, or infundibulum, may or may not be present and give rise to the origin of either of the great arteries. This definition excludes the entity of mitral and tricuspid atresia. An 11 year old cyanotic boy was admitted chief complaints of exertional dyspnea and frequent upper respiratory infection since 2 weeks after birth. He was diagnosed as inoperable cyanotic congenital heart disease, and remained without any corrective treatment up to his age of 11 year when he suffered from aggravation of symptoms and signs of congestive heart failure for 2 months before this admission. On 22nd of May 1979, he was admitted for total corrective operation under the impression of tricuspid atresia suggested by a pediatrician. Physical check revealed deep cyanosis with finger and toe clubbing, and grade V systolic ejection murmur with single second heart sound was audible at the left 3rd intercostal space. Development was moderate in height [135 cm] and weight[28Kg]. Routine lab findings were normal except increased hemoglobin [21.1gm%], hematocrit [64 %], and left axis deviation with left ventricular hypertrophy on EKG. Cardiac catheterization and angiography revealed 1-transposition of aorta, pulmonic valvular stenosis, double inlet of a single ventricle with d-loop, and normal atriovisceral relationship [Type III C solitus according to the classification of Van Praagh]. At operation, longitudinal incision at the outflow tract of right ventricle in between the right coronary artery and its branch [LAD from RCA] revealed high far anterior aortic valve which had fibrous continuity with mitral annulus, and pulmonic valve was stenotic up to 4 mm in diameter positioned posterolaterally to the aorta. Ventricular septum was totally defective, and one markedly hypertrophied moderator band originated from crista supraventricularis was connected down to the imaginary septum of the ventricular cavity as a pseudoseptum of the ventricle. Size of the defect was 3X3 cm2 in total. Patch closure of the defect with a Teflon felt of 3.5 x 4 cm2 was done with interrupted multiple sutures after cut off of the moderator band, which was resutured to the artificial septum after reconstruction of the ventricular septum. Pulmonic valvotomy was done from 4 mm to 11 mm in diameter thru another pulmonary arteriotomy incision, and right ventriculotomy wound was closed reconstructing the right ventricular outflow tract with pericardial autograft of 3 x 4 cm2. Atrial septal defect of 2 cm in diameter was closed with 3-0 Erdeck suture, and atrial wall was sutured also when rectal temperature reached from 24`C to 35.5`C. Complete A-V block was managed with temporary external pacemaker with a pacing rate of 110/min. thru myocardial wire, and arterial blood pressure of 80/50 mmHg was maintained with Isuprel or Dopamine dripping under the CVP of 25-cm saline. Consciousness was recovered one hour after the operation when his blood pressure reached 100 /70 mmHg, but vital signs were not stable, and bleeding from the pericardial drainage and complete anuria were persisted until his heart could not capture the pacemaker impulse, and patient died of low output syndrome 320 min after the operation.
