The photocatalytic decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) was studied using immobilized $TiO_2$ and fluidized bed reactor. Immobilized $TiO_2$(length: 1$\~$2 mm, width: 1$\~$3 mm, thickness: 0.5$\~$2 mm) onto silicone sealant was employed as the photocatalyst and a 30 W germicidal lamp was used as the light source and the reactor volume was 4.8 L. The effects of parameters such as the amounts of photocatalyst, initial concentration, initial pH, superficial velocity, $H_2O_2$ and anion additives. ($NO_3^{-},\;SO_4^{2-},\;Cl^{-},\;CO_3^{2-}$) The results showed that the optimum dosage of the immobilized $TiO_2$ were 87.0 g/L. Initial removal rate of RhB of the immobilized $TiO_2$ was 1.5 times higher than that of the powder $TiO_2$ because of the adsorption onto the surface of immobilized $TiO_2$ In the conditions of acidic pH, initial reaction rate was increased slowly and reaction time was shorted. The effect of anion type on the reaction rate was not much.

In this study, the solution plasma process was utilized with the aim of degrading synthetic dyes in water at atmospheric pressure. The experiments were conducted in a batch-type reactor consisting of a symmetric wire-wire electrode configuration with rhodamine B (RhB) as the target synthetic dye. The effects of the plasma treatment time and initial dye concentration on the RhB degradation were investigated by monitoring the change in absorbance of RhB solutions. The RhB solutions turned lighter in color and finally colorless with prolonged plasma treatment time, indicating the destruction of dye molecules. The RhB solutions were found to have degraded, following the first-order kinetic process. However, for high initial RhB concentrations, another kinetic process or factor seems to play a dominant role at the initial degradation stage. The fitted first-order rate constant decreased as the initial concentration increased. This result suggests that the degradation behavior and kinetic process of the RhB solution strongly depends on its initial concentration. The RhB degradation is considered to be due to a combination of factors, including the formation of chemically oxidative species, as well as the emission of intense UV radiation and high-energy electrons from the plasma. We believe that the solution plasma process may prove to be an effective and environment-friendly method for the degradation or remediation of synthetic dye in wastewater.
The effective detection of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is considerably important for the clinical diagnosis of both of early pregnancy and nonpregnancy-related diseases. In this work, a simple and sensitive electrochemical sandwich-type immunosensing platform was designed by synthesizing b-cyclodextrin (CD) functionalized graphene (CD/GN) hybrid as simultaneously sensing platform and signal transducer coupled with rhodamine b (RhB) as probe. In brief, GN offers large surface area and high conductivity, while CD exhibits superior host-guest recognition capability, thus the primary antibody (Ab1) of HCG can be bound into the cavities of CD/GN to form stable Ab1/CD/GN inclusion complex; meanwhile, the secondary antibody (Ab2) and RhB can also enter into the cavities, producing RhB/Ab2/CD/GN complex. Then, by using Ab1/CD/GN as sensing platform and RhB/Ab2/CD/GN as signal transducer (in which RhB was signal probe), a simple sandwich-type immunosensor was constructed. Under the optimum parameters, the designed immunosensor exhibited a considerable low analytical detection of 1.0 pg mL-1 and a wide linearity of 0.002 to 10.0 ng mL-1 for HCG, revealing the developed sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensing platform offered potential real applications for the determination of HCG.

Heterogeneous photocatalysis is a rapidly developing field in environmental engineering. It has a great potential to cope with the increasing pollution in the air. The addition of a photocatalyst to ordinary building materials such as tiles, concrete, paints, creates environmental friendly materials by which air pollution or pollution of the surface itself can be controlled and diminished. This work reports the results of the laboratory research, especially carried out towards air purifying action and self-cleaning measurements. In particular the research was focused on the study of the photocatalytic behavior of industrially prepared tiles produced starting from commercial micro-sized $TiO_2$. Air purification action has been investigated through NOx degradation tests. On the contrary, the degradation of pollution at the surface, also called as self-cleaning action, is verified by the degradation of two different organic dyes: Rhodamine B (red color) and Metanil yellow (yellow).
The characteristics of photocatalytic decomposition of dye waste water by titanium dioxide was studied in a batch reactor under constant strength of ultra-violet ray. The decomposition rate of methyl orange by TiO$_2$ was pseudo-first order, anatase type TiO$_2$ was more effective than rutile type below the dosage of 5g. The decomposition rate was increased with decreasing initial pH, increasing reaction temperature and oxidant concentration. The decomposition rate of water soluble dyes was decreased in order of rhodamine B>eosin Y>methyl orange.
Multi-drug resistance (MDR) is an essential aspect of human lung cancer chemotherapy failure. Recent studies have shown that vinorelbine is involved in underlying processes in human tumors, reversing the MDR inseveral types of cancer cells. However, the roles and potential mechanism are not fully clear. In this study, we explored effects of vinorelbine in multi-drug resistance reversal of human lung cancer A549/DDP cells. We found that vinorelbine increased drug sensitivity to cisplatin and intracellular accumulation of rhodamine-123, while decreasing expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), multi-drug resistance-associated protein (MRP1) and glutathione-S-transferase ${\pi}$ (GST-${\pi}$) in A549/DDP cells. At the same time, we also established downregulation of p-Akt and decreased transcriptional activation of NF-${\kappa}B$ and twist after vinorelbine treatment. The results indicated that vinorelbine might be used as a potential therapeutic strategy in human lung cancer.
Simultaneous measurement with PLIF(Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence) and Stereo-PIV(Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry) was performed to investigate the structural characteristics of flow field in Rushton Turbine Mixer. Instantaneous 3D velocity fields are measured by two 2K ${\times}$ 2K CCD cameras focused on an object plane with the angular displacement methods while the concentration fields are obtained through the measurement of the fluorescence intensity of Rhodamine B tracer excited by the second pulse of Nd:Yag laser light. Image distortion due to the camera view-angle is compensated by a mapping function. Finally, the spatial structures of turbulent mixing around Rushton turbine were identified by the calculation of cross-correlation fields between the velocity and concentration field.
Visualization of the mixing pattern in a non-element mixer was carried out using laser induced fluorescence(LIF) to evaluate characteristics of mixer consisting of the main flow pipe and branch flow pipes. The branch flows were injected periodically with the period $T_{in}$ normal to the main flow, and rhodamine B was mixed into the most upstream branch flow to visualize mixing pattern in the main flow pipe by LIF. The length of boundary line L of the LIF image was measured. In this study, a numerical analysis was performed to identify the mixing process of the non-element mixer, and the results were compared with experimental results. Each result was almost the same. When the number of branch flows is increased, the mixing pattern became complicated and was supposed to become chaotic. The length of boundary line L increased exponentially with an increase in the number of branch flows.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of smear layer management on the interfacial morphology between dentin bonding system and dentin. Clearfil New Bond, Scotchbond Multipurpose, Prisma Universal Bond 3 and X-R Bond were used on the cervical dentinal surfaces of bovine incisor teeth. All of the dentin bonding systems were labeled with fluorescene in primer and rhodamine B in adhesive. Specimens of 2~3mm thichness were prepared by longitudinal and labiolingual sectioning. The interface between dentin bonding system and dentin was observed by flouresence imaging with a confocal laser scanning microscope. Following results were obtained. 1. In the specimen of Clearfil New Bond, dentinal tubules were widened by destruction of peritubular dentin in the course of treatment with phosphoric acid of high concentration. 2. Hybrid layer was observed in the specimen of Scotchbond Multipurpose and X-R Bond. 3. In the specimen of Prisma Universal Bond 3, the penetraton of adhesive was not observed clearly.
Cellular uptake of nanoparticles for stem cell labeling and tracking is a critical technique for biomedical therapeutic applications. However, current techniques suffer from low intracellular labeling efficiency and cytotoxic effects, which has led to great interest in the development of a new labeling strategy. Using silica-coated nanoparticles conjugated with rhodamine B isothiocyanate (RITC) (SR), we tested the cellular uptake efficiency, biocompatibility, proliferation or differentiation ability with murine bone marrow derived hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. The bone marrow hematopoietic cells showed efficient uptake with SR with dose or time dependent manner and also provided a higher uptake on hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. Biocompatibility tests revealed that the SR had no deleterious effects on cell cytotoxicity, proliferation, or multi-differentiation capacities in vitro and in vivo. SR nanoparticles are advantageous over traditional labeling techniques as they possess a high level of cellular internalization without limiting the biofunctionality of the cells. Therefore, SR provides a useful alternative for gene or drug delivery into hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells for basic research and clinical applications.
