Wear characteristics of Nylon and acetal pinions against steel gears for different pitch line velocities was studied with a power circulating gear test rig under unlubricated condition. Specific wear rate was measured as a function of tooth number, module, tooth width and total revolution. The worn tooth surfaces were examined with a profile projector. The Nylon pinion showed lower specific wear rate than the acetal pinion. However, the Nylon pinion was fractured at high tooth loads, whereas the acetal pinion exhibited a steady wear behavior. The wear characteristics of Nylon pinion varied significantly with the Pitch line velocity. Wear occurred most severely at the tooth tip and the region immediately below the pitch line of pinion. The dominant wear mechanisms were adhesion and abrasion.

Wear and operation characteristics of Nylon and Acetal pinion against steel gear were studied to gain a better understanding of their tribological and mechanical behavior. Tests were conducted with power circulating gear test rig under unlubricated conditions. Specific wear rates were measured as a function of applied load and total revolution. The worn tooth surfaces were examined with a profile projector and camera. Nylon pinion showed lower specific wear rates than Acetal pinion, but it revealed breakage at high load. Principal wear depths were developed at tooth tip and below the pitch line of pinion. Life estimation for the Nylon pinion was made by taking into account steel gear equivalent Hertz stress and average sliding velocity. The dominant wear mechanisms were adhesion and abrasion.

Infrared (IR) optic lens can be fabricated by a single point diamond turning (SPDT) machine without subsequent polishing process. However, this machining process often leaves micro-cracks that deteriorate the surface quality. In this work, we propose an experimental design to remove micro-cracks on IR lens. The proposed design gathered data between cutting process condition and Rt surface roughness. This is of great importance because the scale of micro-cracks is a few micrometer. Rt surface roughness is suitable for analyzing maximum peak height signals of the profile. The experimental results indicate that feed per revolution variable is one of the most dominant variable, affecting the generation micro-cracks on IR lens surfaces.

The performance of interrupted cutting operations like milling is consideraly affected by cuter runout. In this study, cutter runout is selected as an important machining parameter for evaluation of machinability in ball-end milling and caused from misalignments of tool and holder, unbalanced mass of parts and tool deflection under machining. To evaluate the machinability due to cutter runout, the rotating accuracy of spindle, cutting force and surface roughness are measured. The rotating characteristics of spindle in each revolution speed were investigated by cutter runout in freeload. The predicted surface form of workpiece by measuring cutter runout data was compared with real surfaces. The results show that measuring runout with high response gap sensor is useful for studying the phenomenon of high-speed machining and the monitor surface form using in-process runout measurements in ball-end milling is possible.

Gears, which rotate and transmit power by interlocking two cogwheels, were invented in BC. They have been used in various systems, including industrial machinery, transportation devices, and living facilities, through the industrial revolution. Regardless of how they are used, gears are a major source of noise and vibration. Many effective measures are being taken to reduce the radiation noise generated from gears, most commonly by lubrication. Lubrication in gear units reduces friction on interlocking gear surfaces, dampening radioactive noise. This can be very useful for quiet gear design if these lubricating damping effects can be reflected in the analytical phase for gear design. This study experimentally confirms the properties of lubricated and non-lubricated radioactive noise by designing a decelerator gearbox and analyzing the radioactive noise characteristics by torque, rotation, and the number of gears using computer analysis.
Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is probably one of the most successful surgical interventions performed in medicine. Through the revolution of hip arthroplasty by principles of low friction arthroplasty was introduced by Sir John Charnley in 1960s. Thereafter, new bearing materials, fixation methods, and new designs has been improved. The main concern regarding failure of THA has been the biological response to particulate polyethylene debris generated by conventional metal on polyethylene bearing surfaces leading to osteolysis and aseptic loosening of the prosthesis. To resolve these problems, the materials of the modern THA were developed since then. Methods: A literature search strategy was conducted using various search terms in PUBMED. The highest quality articles that met the inclusion criteria and best answered the topics of focus of this review were selected. Key search terms included 'total hip arthroplasty', 'biomaterials', 'stainless steel', 'cobalt-chromium', 'titanium', 'polyethylene', and 'ceramic'. Results: The initial search retrieved 6921 articles. Thirty-two articles were selected and used in the review. Conclusion: This article introduces biomaterials used in THA and discusses various bearing materials in currentclinical use in THA as well as the newer biomaterials which may even further decrease wear and improve THA survivorship.
Flowable composite resin has lower filler content, increased flow, and lower modules of elasticity. It is suggested that flowable composite resin can be bonded to the tooth structure intimately and absorb or dissipate the stress. Therefore, it may be advantageous to use flowable composite resin for the base material of class II restoration and for the class V restoraton. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage and shear bond strength of four flowable composite resins (Aeliteflo, Flow-It, Revolution, Ultraseal XT Plus) compared to Z100 using Scotchbond Multi Purpose dentin bonding system. To evaluate the microleakage, notch-shaped class V cavities were prepared on buccal and lingual surfaces of 80 extracted human premolars and molars on cementum margin. The teeth were randomly divided into non-thermocycling group (group 1) and thermocycling group (group 2) of 40 teeth each. The experimental teeth of each group were randomly divided onto five subgroups of eight samples (sixteen surfaces). The Scotchbond Multi-Purpose and composite resin were applied for each group following the manufacturer's instructions. the teeth of group 2 were thermocycled five hundred times between 5$^{\circ}C$ and 55$^{\circ}C$. The teeth of group 2 were placed in 2% methylene blue dye for 24 hours, then rinsed with tab water. The specimens were embedded in clear resin, and sectioned longitudinally with a diamond saw. The dye penetration on each of the specimen were observed with a stereomicioscope at $\times$20 magnification. To evaluate the shear bond strength, 60 teeth were divided into five groups of twelve teeth each. The experimental teeth were ground horizontally below the dentinoenamel junction, so that no enamel remained. After applying Scotchbond Multi-Purpose on the dentin surface, composite resin was applied in the shape of cylinder. The cylinder was 4mm in diameter and 2mm in thickness. Shear bond strength was measured using Instron with a cross-head speed of 0.5mm/min. After shear bond strength measurement, mode of failure was evaluated with a stereomicroscope at $\times$30 magnification. All data were statistically analyzed by One Way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls method. The correlation between microleakage and shear bond strength was analyzed by linear regression. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. In non-thermocycling group, the leakage value of Z100 was significantly lower than those of flowable composite resins at the enamel and dentin margin, margin, except that Revolution showed the lower leakage value than that of Z100 at the dentin margin (p<0.05). 2. In thermocycling group, the leakage values of Z100 and Ultraseal XT Plus were lower than those of other subgroup at the enamel and dentin margin, except that Flow-It showed the lower leakage value than that of Ultraseal XT Plus at the dentin margin (p<0.05). 3. The leakage value of Z100 and Ultraseal XT Plus in thermocycling group were not higher than that in non-thermocycling group at the enamel margin. The leakage value of Z100 in thermocycling group was not higher than that in non-thermocycling group at the dentin margin (p<0.05). 4. As for the shear bond strength measurement, there were no statistically significant differences among groups (p<0.05). The shear bond strengths given in descending order were as follows: Z100(16.81$\pm$2.98 MPa), Flow-It(14.8$\pm$4.43 MPa), Aeliteflo(14.34$\pm$3.69 MPa), Revolution(13.46$\pm$4.23 MPa), Ultraseal XT Plus(12.83$\pm$3.16 MPa). 5. Failure modes of all specimens were adhesive failures. 6. There was no correlation between microleakage and shear bond strength.

A comparative study between a computation and an experiment has been conducted to predict the performance of a Pod type waterjet for cm amphibious wheeled vehicle. The Pod type waterjet has been chosen on the basis of the required specific speed of more than 2500. As the Pod type waterjet is an extreme type of axial flow type waterjet, theoretical as well as experimental works about Pod type waterjets are very rare. The main purpose of the present study is to validate and compare to the experimental results of the Pod type waterjet with the developed CFD in-house code based on the RANS equations. The developed code has been validated by comparing with the experimental results of the well-known turbine problem. The validation also extended to the flush type waterjet where the pressures along the duct surface and also velocities at nozzle area have been compared with experimental results. The Pod type waterjet has been designed and the performance of the designed waterjet system including duct, impeller and stator was analyzed by the previously mentioned m-house CFD Code. The pressure distributions and limiting streamlines on the blade surfaces were computed to confirm the performance of the designed waterjets. In addition, the torque and momentum were computed to find the entire efficiency and these were compared with the model test results. Measurements were taken of the flow rate at the nozzle exit, static pressure at the various sections along the duct and also the nozzle, revolution of the impeller, torque, thrust and towing forces at various advance speed's for the prediction of performance as well as for comparison with the computations. Based on these measurements, the performance was analyzed according to the ITTC96 standard analysis method. The full-scale effective and the delivered power of the wheeled vehicle were estimated for the prediction of the service speed. This paper emphasizes the confirmation of the ITTC96 analysis method and the developed analysis code for the design and analysis of the Pod type waterjet system.
After clinical adjustment of dental casting restoration, re-polishing procedure is recommanded because the smooth gold sureface is lost. But there is the possibility to get more loose contact than that intended by loss of gold alloy according to the kinds of polishing materials and polishing time. Therefore in this study I polished type II gold alloy with 390gm force, 20,000rpm speed, and 8 kinds of gold alloy polishing materials, fabricated by 4 companies and then measured the amount of loss of gold alloy with Surfcorder SEF-30D and observed alloy surfaces polished by 3 brown rubber points with SEM. The amount of loss of gold alloys polished with 8 kinds of polishing materials and the degree of smoothness of gold alloys according to polishing time and polishing materials were compared. The following results were obtained : 1. When the amount of loss of gold alloys polished with 3 kinds of brown rubber point was compared, Alphalex brown point had the most amount of alloy loss, followed in decreasing order by Shofu brown point and Eveflex brown point. There was statistically significant difference in the amount of alloy loss according to polishing materials. 2. When the amount of loss of gold alloys polished with 5 kinds of green rubber point was compared, Shofu green point had the most amount of alloy loss, followed in decreasing order by Alphaflex green point, Dedeco green clasp polisher, and Eveflex green point. There was statistically significant difference in the amount of alloy loss according to polishing materials except Alphaflex green point and Dedeco green clasp polisher. 3. When the amount of loss of gold alloys polished with all kinds of rubber point was compared, there was no significant difference in Eveflex brown point, Alphaflex green point, and Dedeco green clasp polisher. 4. When average amount of alloy loss per 1 revolution by polishing materials was compared, Alphalex brown point had the greatest value as $0.329{\mu}m$ and Shofu supergreen point had the lowest value as $0.022{\mu}m$. 5. When the degree of sureface smoothness of gold alloy polished with 3 kinds of brown rubber point was compared, In Alphalex brown point surface roughness was completely lost after 20 seconds polishing time, in Shofu brown point 30 seconds, in Eveflex brown point 40 seconds. But in every gold alloys fine scratch formed by rubber points was observed. Based on the results of this study, as rubber polishing materials used in polishing of dental casting restoration after clinical adjustment influenced on the tightness of occlusal or proximal contact, we should make dental casting restoration with minimum error through careful laboratory procedure and form very smooth surface of restoration with tripoli and rouge after use of silicone polishing materials.
