A Development of a Curriculum Guide for Health Education at Junior and Senior High Schools (우리나라 중.고등학교 보건과목 해설서 개발)

  • Purpose: This study is intended to provide easy explanations needed to ensure correct understanding of the notification of health education curriculum revised in 2008, health education curriculum at middle and high schools as well as their effective application at schools. Teachers of health lessons can provide better guidance for their classes only when they are well informed of intent and direction of health lessons sought after by the nation, objective and systematic content of health lessons, teaching methods, characteristics of teachinglearning materials and their evaluation. The contents of the guide have been sufficiently detailed and clarified in such a way that can increase understanding of school health education as pursued by the nation. Methods: This is reported research as its contents have been finalized through analysis of documentary records concerned with health education available at both home and abroad, a council of health education experts and public hearings organized for extensive collection of opinions from professor and teachers. Results: The guidebook has been prepared in 5 areas covering respectively "background of revision to health education curriculum", "how health education curriculum has been changed over time", " focus on health education curriculum", "explanations on health education curriculum" and "comparison of new and previous curriculum". Also developed were key initiatives on 6 health related subjects. Conclusion: The greatest significance of this research lies in the fact that it has come up with the first guide book for health education ever prepared in our history. It is also meaningful for the guide book to enable teachers to teach their classes better by providing them with easy interpretation of the contents notified by the government and to have set guidelines for directions in which health of our youths should be promoted. Since this is the first work, continuous research and development should further be carried out in the future.

A Comparative Analysis of Current 2011 Elementary School Mathematics Curriculum in Korea and CCSSM in the United States (2011 개정 초등학교 수학과 교육과정과 미국 CCSSM 비교.분석 연구)

  • The Korean national curriculum will be revised in 2015. Before revisions are to be made, we must discuss the direction the curriculum changes will take. In this study, we compare the contents of the current 2011 elementary school mathematics curriculum in Korea with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) in the United States. The results from this comparative analysis may be helpful in the revision of the Korean mathematical curriculum. We find that the CCSSM introduces certain mathematical concepts earlier and in greater detail than the Korean curriculum does. The CCSSM also covers a broader range of mathematical concepts. These results indicate that the Korean curriculum needs to emphasize conceptual understanding, as well as procedural skill and fluency, in the early grades. Moreover, the 'grade band' is unnecessary in the mathematics curriculum. The Korean curriculum revision process must be debated more intensely, must be made public, and must take into consideration the key points of CCSSM.

Opinions of Hospital Staffs on the Korean Hospital Standardization Program and Its Criteria for Quality Activities (병원표준화심사의 질 향상 관련 항목에 대한 평가와 개선방안)

  • Background: Korean Hospital Standardization Program(KHSP), as a hospital accreditation program initiated and promoted by Korean Hospital Association since 1981, has played a key role in the hospital quality improvement in structural aspect particularly. Recently, however, KHSP has been critisized by hospitals and health personnels in that it is unpractical to be utilized as an initiative to improve hospital quality. In particular, the section of quality assurance in KHSP, strongly influenced by old version of Hospital Accreditation of Joint Commission in U.S.A., has been required to be fundamentally revised. For design of new criteria in quality assurance section, a survey for evaluation of existing program and collection of opinions for ideal one was conducted. Methods: For a month in 1994, structured questionnaires were administered by mailing to 470 hospital staffs from 200 hospitals, participated in the survey for the 1994 KHSP in each hospital. The total number of respondents was 116. Results: Less than half of the respondents(34.5%) value positively on the impact of current KHSP in general on the quality improvement of their hospitals. Moreover, most responses indicated that KHSP should be reorganized towards more practical and applicable one. Current KHSP criteria for quality activities in hospitals were regarded as a unpractical one which should be basically renewed. For new criteria and standards, most respondents emphasized the importance of applicability of those in real situations. Conclusion: For the KHSP to be effective, new evaluation criteria for quality activities should be more practical and fully accommodated to hospital situations in reality.

Determining the Factors that Affect Breast Cancer and Self Breast Examination Beliefs of Turkish Nurses in Academia

  • Purpose: To define factors that affect the performance status of BSE and confidence of student nurses. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in the academic year 2010-2011 in a nursing faculty in $\dot{I}$zmir, Turkey. "Informative data form" and "Champion's Revised Health Belief Model Scale (CHBMS)" were used as data collection forms. Results: The mean age of the participant nurses was $21.0{\pm}1.49$. The mean CHMS scores of the student nurses were as follows: perceived susceptibility regarding breast cancer, $7.78{\pm}2.46$; perceived seriousness regarding breast cancer, $22.4{\pm}5.43$; perceived benefit regarding BSE application, $20.5{\pm}4.45$; perceived barriers regarding BSE application, $23.8{\pm}7.13$; perceived confidence regarding BSE application, $36.3{\pm}7.78$; the mean score of health motivation sub-scale, $25.7{\pm}4.59$; and mean of the total score of the scale, $36.5{\pm}15.01$. Conclusions: The outcomes obtained in this study indicated the importance of better education to student nurses, who have a key role in teaching preventive health behaviour including BSE to society and other university students as colleagues.

A taxonomic revision of Astragalus L. (Fabaceae) in Korea (한국산 황기속의 분류학적 재검토)

  • Korean species within the genus Astragalus have been taxonomically revised based on herbarium specimens and field examinations. In this study, we recognized the following eight species and one variety: A. laxmannii subsp. laxmannii, A. dahuricus, A. sikokianus, A. uliginosus, A. schelichowii, A. setsureianus, A. mongholicus var. dahuricus, A. mongholicus var. nakaianus, and A. sinicus. Based on recent taxonomic progress with this genus, their scientific names are being reconsidered. A Korean plant, previously recorded as A. adsurgens, is included in the polymorphic taxa A. laxmannii subsp. laxmannii. Astragalus koraiensis was initially described from Gangwon Province as an endemic species, and it is now regarded as conspecific with A. sikokianus. Furthermore, the taxonomic entities and their morphological characteristics have been clarified for A. schelichowii and A. setsureianus, both of which are not well known in Korea. We provide a key to these species and enumerate their synonymies and taxonomic notes.

Analyzing User Satisfaction of the Standard Records Management System (표준 기록관리시스템에 대한 사용자 만족도 분석)

  • It is necessary to diagnose the standard record management system when the system is being spread out to entire public organization and institutions. This study aims to analyze the standard record management system for improving system and revising the related standards in the future. This study evaluates the satisfaction on the interface and functional quality of the system through questionnaire survey on records managers. It is found that the satisfaction of functional quality is just above the line, but the interface fails to satisfy records managers. Also the reliability of the system appears to be higher satisfaction than efficiency and usability. Therefore, the study suggests that the standard records management systems should try to improve 'easy of use' and effectiveness and efficiency by implementing heavy batch job and promoting modulation of key function. And the study emphasizes that the standards will be revised with the long-term plan in order to develop standard records management system systematically and continuously.

  • MSR identifies that records are key factors in achieving the goals of an organization and that records management is part of the business administration. Therefore, organizations could secure accountability and continuity of works through the activities of production and management records. This study explored what should be prepared to adopt MSR in public institutions based on the analysis of the requirements of the ISO 30301. which is prepared to be utilized as a certificate system. It focuses on 1) how laws could be supplemented to adopt MSR by comparing the requirements of MSR and the Public Records Management Act; 2) what should be prepared by organizations in terms of their rules and procedures; and 3) how the evaluation system of public institutions and the records management evaluation system could be revised to ensure that MSR will be sufficiently implemented in the organizations. In conclusion, the part to be supplemented by the law, the area to be operated as the internal rules of the organizations, and the way to be reflected in the evaluation of the public institutions were suggested.

Case Studies on Space Zoning and Passive Façade Strategies for Green Laboratories

  • Laboratory buildings with specialized equipment and ventilation systems pose challenges in terms of efficient energy use and initial construction costs. Additionally, lab spaces should have flexible and efficient layouts and provide a comfortable indoor research environment. Therefore, this study aims to identify the correlation between the facade of a building and its interior layout from case studies of energy-efficient research labs and to propose passive energy design strategies for the establishment of an optimal research environment. The case studies in this paper were selected from the American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment Top Ten Projects and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified research lab projects. In this paper, the passive design strategies of space zoning, façade design devices to control heating and cooling loads were analyzed. Additionally, the relationships between these strategies and the interior lab layouts, lab support spaces, offices, and circulation areas were examined. The following four conclusions were drawn from the analysis of various cases: 1) space zoning for grouping areas with similar energy requirements is performed to concentrate similar heating and cooling demands to simplify the HVAC loads. 2) Public areas such as corridor, atrium, or courtyard can serve as buffer zones that employ passive solar design to minimize the mechanical energy load. 3) A balanced window-to-wall ratio (WWR), exterior shading devices, and natural ventilation systems are applied according to the space programming energy requirements to minimize the dependence on mechanical service. 4) Lastly, typical laboratory space zoning categories can be revised, reversed, and even reconfigured to minimize the energy load and adjust to the site context. This study can provide deep insights into various design strategies employed for construction of green laboratories along with intuitive arrangement of various building components such as laboratory spaces, lab support spaces, office spaces, and common public areas. The key findings of this study can contribute towards creating improved designs of laboratory facilities with reduced carbon footprint and greenhouse emissions.

Legal and Institutional Considerations for Child Actor (아역 연기자에 대한 법적, 제도적 고려사항)

  • Child labor is being recognized as the key issue of human rights, and the International Labor Organization and the Convention on the Rights of the Child emphasize that children are individuals with dignity and rights. Male and female child actors belong to a profession with wide public exposure and there is a potential danger of invading classes and roles not matching the developmental stage of the child. In this study, we would like to discuss international and domestic laws and future complementary measures surrounding legal and institutional issues that need to be considered for child actors. Although the basic rights for child workers are stated in the Constitution Article 32 Paragraph 5 and Labor Standards Act Articles 64 through 70, they are insufficient. Following the revised broadcasting deliberation regulations by the Korea Communication Commission and amendment of the Juvenile Protection Law, several changes are taking place in the working environment. In certain foreign places such as California, United States, the economic and educational rights of male and female child actors are being protected. Although legal and institutional frameworks for the male and female child actors are being reinforced, more consistent devices are needed. Consideration for working hours, regulations to keep up with learning while working, and preparation for physical and emotional influences are required to keep up with international changes.

A study on India's CMC(Computer Masti Curriculum) based on Bruner's educational theories (브루너의 이론에 근거한 인도의 정보교육과정 고찰)

  • Following the announcement made in 2007of the information education curriculum for high schools, India followed through with a similar announcement in June 2013 for an elementary school curriculum to be linked with that of the high schools. As a characteristic feature of India's educational curriculum, the structure is "helical" in nature, while interaction between teachers and students is emphasized as a key method for education. During the past few years India has revised its educational curriculum based on Bruner's 'Structure of Knowledge,' which has changed the paradigm of the nation's educational curriculum. This study analyzed India's educational curriculum that aims at a helical structure and, at the same time, emphasizes 'narrative' thinking in schools. The goal of this study is to discover possible suggestions or implications for Korea's information education curriculum by analyzing India's education that concurrently seeks to employ 'Structure of Knowledge' and 'Narrative' theories in a single educational curriculum.
