COVID-19 Pandemic and the Reaction of Asian Stock Markets: Empirical Evidence from Saudi Arabia

  • The study examines the influence of COVID-19 on the stock market returns of Saudi Arabia. The data was analyzed through event study methodology using daily price data of Tadawul All Share Index (TASI). The study examines the behavior pattern of the Saudi Arabian stock market in different phases during the event period by selecting six-event windows with a range of 10 days. The results report a negative Abnormal Return (AR) of -0.003 on the event date, while the abnormal returns reversed the next day to 0.005 positively. The result of Cumulative Abnormal Return (CAR) is negative and significant at the 1 percent level in all the six-event windows starting from the event date to day 59 after the event for the TASI index. Even though the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic decreased after 30 days of the event date, it increased during the last ten days of the event window. The stock market volatility of Saudi Arabia increased during the post-event period compared to the pre-event period with a negative mean return of -0.326 and a greater standard deviation. In a conclusion, the study found a significant influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the stock market returns of TASI.

Perceived Risk Factors Affecting Consumers' Online Shopping Behaviour

  • The study examines the impact of financial risk, convenience risk, non-delivery risk; return policy risk and product risk on online consumer behavior of Malaysian consumers. The research employed a self-administered survey to collect empirical data from 245 Malaysian online shoppers by using convenience sampling. Cronbach alpha was calculated to confirm the reliability of the data and then normality was assessed. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was then conducted to test the model using the goodness-of-fit tests. And finally, structural equation modeling is used to test the hypotheses and draw conclusions. IBM SPSS AMOS version 22.0 was utilized for data analysis. The research indicates that product risk, convenience risk, and return policy risk have a significant and positive impact on online shopping behavior. Financial risk is found to have insignificant and negative effects on consumer behavior. In addition, the non-delivery risk is found to have a significant and negative impact on online shopping behavior. The findings provide a useful model for measuring and managing perceived risk in online shopping which may result in an increase in participation of Malaysian consumers and reduce their cognitive deficiencies in the e-commerce environment. Several managerial implications are discussed along with the scope for future research.

  • Through experimental and numerical studies of metal forming processes by plastic deformation, this paper represents a numerical simulation by finite element of the mechanical behavior of the material during a permanent deformation phenomenon. The main interest of this study is to optimize the shaping processes such as folding. In this context the elastic return for the folding process has been further reduced by using the design of experiments approach. In this analysis, it is proposed to consider the following factors: bending radius, metal-sheet thickness, gap and length of the fold.

지진 재현주기에 따른 하천 제방의 지진취약성 분석 (Seismic Vulnerability Analysis of River Levee by Earthquake Return Period)

  • 본 연구에서는 공용 중인 하천 제방을 대상으로 포항지진파를 재현주기 200년, 500년, 1000년 그리고 2400년으로 생성하여 지진취약성을 정량적으로 분석하였다. 재현주기에 따른 지진취약성 분석을 위해 하천 제방에 측점을 설정하여 제방의 거동을 분석하였다. 연구결과, 지진 발생 시의 변위는 입력지진파와 유사한 경향성을 보였으며 재현주기 2400년에서 가장 크게 산정되었다. 활동 안정성 검토 결과, 지진 발생전의 안전율을 기준으로 재현주기 2400년일 때 제내지는 약 31.5% 감소하였고 제외지는 약 26.7% 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 모든 재현주기에서 최소 기준 안전율을 만족하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 유효응력경로상 q/p' 비율에 따른 액상화를 검토한 결과, 지진으로 인한 제채 내부의 침윤면이 상승하여 재현주기 2400년일 때는 제채 대부분에서 액상화가 발생하는 것으로 나타나 지진에 상당히 취약한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 국내 내진 설계 기준의 재정립이 필요함이 입증되었다고 판단되며, 동역학적 방법을 통한 검토 결과에 대한 명확한 기준 성립이 필요하다고 판단된다.

국내 주식시장 변동성에 대한 국제유가의 영향: 이질적 자기회귀(HAR) 모형을 사용하여 (An Analysis of the Effects of WTI on Korean Stock Market Using HAR Model)

  • 본 연구는 국내 주식시장 변동성에 대한 국제유가의 영향을 실증적으로 분석한다. 분석을 위해 사용된 자료는 2015년 1월 2일부터 2021년 7월 30일까지 KOSPI 지수와 WTI 선물가격의 10분 주기 고빈도 자료이다. 이를 사용하기 위해서는 이질적 자기회귀(HAR) 모형을 사용하였다. 분석 모형에서는 고빈도 자료의 장점을 살려 국제유가의 영향을 수익률뿐 아니라 실현 변동성, 실현 왜도 및 첨도를 통해 확인한다. 추정에는 큰 왜도를 갖는 실현 변동성 분포를 감안하여 Box-Cox 변환을 적용하였다. 추정 결과, WTI 가격의 일간 수익률 변동은 KOSPI 수익률의 변동성에 통계적으로 유의한 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 WTI 수익률의 변동성, 왜도, 첨도는 KOSPI 수익률의 변동성에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 KOSPI 수익률의 변동성이 거래 시간의 시차를 갖는 WTI 수익률의 일간 변화는 반영하지만 투자자의 일중 거래 행태까지는 반영하지 않기 때문으로 판단된다.

  • The prediction of the inelastic behavior of the structure is an essential part of reliability assessment procedure, because most of the failures are induced by the inelastic deformation, such as creep and plastic deformation. During decades, there has been much progress in understanding of the inelastic behavior of the materials and a lot of inelastic constitutive equations have been developed. The complexity of these constitutive equations generally requires a stable and accurate numerical method. The radial return mapping is one of the most robust integration scheme currently used. Nonlinear kinematic hardening model of Armstrong-Fredrick type has recovery term and the direction of kinematic hardening increment is not parallel to that of plastic strain increment. In this case, The conventional radial return mapping method cannot be applied directly. In this investigation, we expanded the radial return mapping method to consider the nonlinear kinematic hardening model and implemented this integration scheme into ABAQUS by means of UMAT subroutine. The solution of the non-linear system of algebraic equations arising from time discretization with the generalized midpoint rule is determined using Newton method and bisection method. Using dynamic yield condition derived from linearization of flow rule, the integration scheme for elastoplastic and viscoplastic constitutive model was unified. Several numerical examples are considered to demonstrate the efficiency and applicability of the present method.

인터넷 쇼퍼의 지각과 불평행동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Internet Shopper's Perception and Complaining Behavior)

  • The purpose of this study is to supply basic marketing information and establish effective marketing strategy of internet retail stores, by analyzing internet shopper's perception and complaining behavior. To accomplish this study objective, 172 individuals were selected and surveyed with questionnaire method. The result of empirical analysis is summarized as follows. There were significant differences between consumer types and consumer's perception of internet shopping for price, variety of product, fitness, interest, return policy. And there were statistically significant differences in the types of complaining behavior by consumer types.

유통환경에서의 비윤리적 고객반품행동: 정당화기술의 응용을 통한 이해 (Techniques of Neutralization on Unethical Customer Return Behaviors)

  • The purposes of this study were to explore the techniques of neutralization on unethical customer return behaviors, examine the differences in the neutralizations by customer characteristics, and examine the relationships of neutralizations with customer ethics, anomie, and impulsive behaviors. A total of 609 questionnaires were analyzed. Four factors including denial of injury/victim, condemning the condemners, denial of responsibility, and appeal to higher loyalties were extracted from the neutralization techniques. The neutralization techniques were not different by customer characteristics, but were negatively related with customer ethics and positively related with anomie and impulsive behaviors. The results indicate that the neutralization techniques are appropriate to understand unethical customer return behaviors in the Korean retail settings.

  • 흙막이벽 굴착배면지반의 변형거동을 해석을 하기 위하여 강제변위법을 이용한 수치해석 프로그램을 개발하였다. 굴착지반의 구성모델은 Drucker Prager의 비선형 탄소성구성방정식을 적용하였으며, 리턴매핑법으로 탄소성해를 구하였다. 수치해석 프로그램의 타당성을 검증하기 위하여 수치해석으로부터 얻은 굴착배면지반의 수평변위와 현장계측결과를 비교하였다. 검토결과 수치해석 프로그램의 정확도는 상당히 높은 것으로 나타났다.

The Effect of Post-Purchase Discount Format on Consumers' Perception of Loss and Willingness to Return

  • Price discount is one of the commonly used promotion strategies to increase sales and revenue. If a discount is perceived before the purchase (i.e., pre-purchase discount), consumers are likely to perceive it as a potential gain. If it is noticed after making a regular-priced purchase (i.e., post-purchase discount), consumers may develop negative emotions and attitudes. Based on the rising transparency and omnipresence of price and discount information through web and mobile platforms, we attempt to tackle an understudied topic on the negative effect of post-purchase price discount. Specifically, post-purchase discount information may increase consumers' perception of monetary loss, which may affect consumers' decision to return the product, potentially increasing the operating costs borne by retailers. Based on a close scrutinization of the current market environment and previous academic literature, we suggest a novel conceptual framework to understand consumers' perception, attitude, and behavior (perception of loss, willingness to return) upon perceiving various formats of discount promotion (absolute value vs. percentage discount) posterior to the purchase of a product. We also look at the effect of price level (low-priced vs. high-priced). For marketing practitioners, we intend to suggest optimal promotion formats that can alleviate consumers' negative perceptions and prevent additional operation costs.
