  • There are many videos about sports. There is a large need for content based video retrievals. In sports videos, the motions and camera works have much information about shots and plays. This paper proposes the baseball game process understanding using the similar motion retrieval on videos. We can retrieve the similar motion parts based on motions shown in videos using the space-time images describing the motions. Using a finite state model of plays, we can decide the precise point of pitches from the pattern of estimated typical motions. From only the motions, we can decide the precise point of pitches. This paper describes the method and the experimental results.

  • In this paper we constructed semantic net that can efficiently conform retrieval and reuse of object-oriented source code. In order that initial relevance of semantic net was constructed using thesaurus to represent concept of object-oriented inheritance between each node. Also we made up for the weak points in spreading activation method that use to activate node and line of semantic net and to impulse activation value. Therefore we proposed the method to enhance retrieval time and to keep the quality of spreading activation.

  • This paper describes an information retrieval system which offers real time information about mobile vehicles through the Internet. In order to evaluate the efficiency of solar batteries and feasibility of electric vehicles, four crews of Tokyo Denki University made a round trip through the North American Continent by their handmade solar electric vehicles last summer. In accordance with this project, an information retrieval system which offers the daily drive information through the Internet to the public was constructed. The system configuration and operating results of this system are reported.

  • In this paper, we propose a design and implementation of a DB system for providing comprehensive information retrieval service about social economic information. We classify social economic organizations into 6 major categories and 35 small categories. The DB contains 25,938 social economic organizations in total. The DB system provides simple and intuitive interface for searching information such as keyword search, category search and initial search. Fully loaded time of webpage of implemented DB system achieved 2.3s by Vancouver, Canada Server.

  • Full turnover-based storage policy (FULL) is often used to minimize the travel time needed to perform storage/retrieval operations in automated storage/retrieval systems (AS/RSs). This paper presents an approach for determining the required storage capacity for a unit load AS/RS under the FULL. An analytic model is formulated such that the total cost related to storage space and space shortage is minimized while satisfying a desired service level. To solve the model, some analytic properties are derived and based on them, an iterative search algorithm which always generates optimal solutions is developed. To illustrate the validity of the approach, an application is provided when the standard economic-order-quantity inventory model is used.

  • Automated Storage/Retrieval (AS/R) systems have been used mostly in manufacturing or distribution industry in order to store or retrieve palletized items automatically. Since the items ore heavy or bulky, only one pallet at a time is moved by the stacker crane In this study, however, we introduce the "multi -load" AS/R system in which the items to be stored are data storage devices of equal size such as video tape or compact disc. Since the items are small and light multiple items can be stored and retrieved in each trip by using a magazine and a robot arm mounted on the crane Given the magazine capacity, and the locations of retrieval items and empty cells in the rack, the throughput of the multi-load AS/R system will depend on the selection of storage locations and the sequence of visits. We propose four heuristic algorithms for the multi-command. Computer simulation is used to evaluate the four algorithms in terms of throughput and number of back tracking of the crane.

  • The main objective of an Information Retrieval System (IRS) is to obtain suitable information within a reasonable time to satisfy a user need. To achieve this purpose, an IRS should have a good indexing system that is based on natural language processing.In this context, we focus on the available Arabic language processing techniques for an IRS with the goal of contributing to an improvement in the performance. Our contribution consists of integrating morphological analysis into an IRS in order to compare the impact of morphological analysis with that of stemming algorithms.

  • To overcome the capture-range problem in phase-diversity phase retrieval (PDPR), a geometrical-optics initial-estimate method is proposed to avoid a local minimum and to improve the accuracy of laser-wavefront measurement. We calculate the low-order aberrations through the geometrical-optics model, which is based on the two spot images in the propagation path of the laser, and provide it as a starting guess for the PDPR algorithm. Simulations show that this improves the accuracy of wavefront recovery by 62.17% compared to other initial values, and the iteration time with our method is reduced by 28.96%. That is, this approach can solve the capture-range problem.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that performs a text-video retrieval model by replacing video properties using captions. In general, the exisiting embedding-based models consist of both joint embedding space construction and the CNN-based video encoding process, which requires a lot of computation in the training as well as the inference process. To overcome this problem, we introduce a video-captioning module to replace the visual property of video with captions generated by the video-captioning module. To be specific, we adopt the caption generator that converts candidate videos into captions in the inference process, thereby enabling direct comparison between the text given as a query and candidate videos without joint embedding space. Through the experiment, the proposed model successfully reduces the amount of computation and inference time by skipping the visual processing process and joint embedding space construction on two benchmark dataset, MSR-VTT and VATEX.

How many automatic external defibrillators do South Korean golf courses need?

  • Purpose: This study was to examine public access defibrillator (PAD) deployment on some golf courses and to analyze automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) demand by appropriate distance. Research design, data, and methodology: We conducted telephone interview on 124 golf courses in Gyeonggi and Gangwon province in South Korea. The area within 3 minutes by 3 minutes for retrieval and 1 minute for shock and 1.5 minutes by the American Heart Association (AHA)recommendation for community AED placement were calculated as 3.14×162㎡ and 3.14×100㎡. Results: The average area was 1,811,481.8㎡, and 29 (42.7%) in below 999,999㎡, 75 (60.5%) in 1,000,000 to 1,999,999㎡, 12 (9.7%) in 2,000,000 to 2,999,999㎡ took up. The average retrieval time was 161.8 seconds, and 5 (4.1%) in below 90 seconds, 10 (8.0%) in 91 to 180 seconds took up a small part. AED demands according to 3 and 1.5 retrieval minutes were 2,602 and 6,986 respectively. Average AED demands per golf course were 21.0 and 56.3 respectively on 124 golf courses. Conclusions: The numbers of AED needed in South Korean golf course were 5,880 to 15,764. To ensure defibrillation on the golf courses, the supply and distribution of AEDs should be strengthened.
