Optimal Inventory and Price Markdown Policy for a Two-Layer Market with Demand being Price and Time Dependent

  • This paper considers a SCM issue concerned with an integrated problem of inventory control and dynamic pricing strategies when demands are price and time dependent. The associated price markdowns are conducted for inventory control in a two-layer market consisting of retailer and outlet as in fashion apparel market. The objective function consists of revenue terms (sales revenue and salvage value) and purchasing cost term. Specifically, decisions on price markdowns and order quantity are made to maximize total profit in the supply chain so as to have zero inventory level at the end of the sales horizon. To solve the proposed problem, a gradient method is applied, which shows an optimal decision on both the initial inventory level and the discount pricing policy. Sensitivity analysis is conducted on the demand parameters and the final comments on the practical use of the proposed model are presented.

  • The development of POS (Point of Sales) systems for small retailers according to their needs is considered to be important to improve their competitive advantages. However, their financial statuses hinder the adoption of the tailored POS systems. Viewing ASP as a viable solution to provide tailored POS systems for the small retailers, this study develops ASP POS service models for the small retailers. First, this study elicits ASP POS requirements of the small retailers in the following areas: merchandising, pricing, store design and display, customer service, advertising and promotion and personal selling. Then, the requirements are clustered and the clusters are analyzed based on the characteristics of the retailers. Then, ASP service models are proposed according to the needs and profiles of the retailers.

The Impact of Information Lead Time Improvement on the Distributed Supply Chain System (분산형 공급체인에서 단계별 정보지연 개선이 주는 효과)

  • In this study, we model a decentralized supply chain system which is managed by four types of centers, sequentially located: Retailer, Wholesaler, Distributor, and Factory Each center contributes to enhancing the performance of the supply chain system individually with its own local inventory information. Through experiments which are performed with a programmed simulation (like the MIT beer game), we investigate how the information lead time improvement in each center affects the whole system. And we show that the impact of the lead time improvement in the downstream, like retailers, affects more to the system than the one in the upstream, like factories, in a cost-effective way. Moreover, by using information lead time for each center, we analyze how much the extent of the improvement affects the whole system, especially for the total cost and the order level.

A Study on the Wine Consumers' Perceived Risk of Purchasing by Involvement (관여도에 따른 와인 소비자의 인지된 구매 위험에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate Korean wine consumers' perceived risk dimensions affecting wine purchasing behavior and identify the differences in the dimensions by wine involvement. Questionnaires were collected from the wine purchasers of wine retailer shops in Seoul. 230 data were analysed using SPSS package(v. 12.0). Findings were as follows: (1) There were 5 dimensions in the perceived risk of wine purchasing: functional, social, physical, psychological, financial. Social dimension was the most serious risk for wine consumers, then come psychological, functional, financial, and physical ones. (2) There were significant differences in the perceived risk dimensions by involvement level except the financial dimension. The perception level of wine purchasing risk was relatively low in the high involvement group while high in the middle and low involvement groups.

  • The clothing industry is going through very rapid and innovative automation in almost all processes from the initial design of clothing to the dispatch of the products to the retailer. Educational bodies in teaching clothing and textile techniques should offer courses that enable students to grasp the concepts and potential of automation so that they can confidently cope with further development when they enter the real world of the clothing and textile industry.   • The purpose of this study is to help domestic aquaculture farm by improved evaluation method. First, We analyzed evaluation method of domestic aquaculture certification, the greater retailer's supplier and global standard. Next, By using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), We found priority and importance between criteria of SQF(Safety Quality Food) standard which is appled to alternative model for aquaculture evaluation. As a result is presented as follows: regarding pairwise comparison between System Element module and Good Aquaculture Practice(GAP) module, GAP is recognized to be more important than System Element. The highest priority criteria is presented 'Purchase and Use of Medications, Aquaculture Feeds and Aquaculture Chemicals.' Next, 'Management commitment', 'Attaining Food Safety', 'Location and Layout of Structures and Vessels', 'Stock Identification and Traceability are recognized high position. This study has major implications for research into development of evaluation method.

  • 현재 수요반응(Demand Response) 프로그램은 발전설비 용량의 부족이나 높은 발전 연료비용의 상승으로 인해 다양한 나라들에서 도입되고 있는 실정이다. 그것은 실시간으로 소비자들이 그들의 소비패턴을 선택할 수 있는 프로그램이라 말할 수 있다. 다시 말하면, 수요반응이란 소비자들의 일반적인 전력소비패턴에서 전력가격이나 기타 다른 신호에 반응하여 전력 사용량을 변화시키는 것으로 정의할 수 있다. 수요반응의 효과는 전력가격의 급상승 방지, 공급 신뢰도 향상, 그로 인한 사회적인 복지향상 등 여러 가지 측면에서 생각해 볼 수 있다. 이러한 다양한 효과 가운데, 본 논문에서는 thermal comfort zone을 고려하여 수요반응 프로그램을 수행하는 동안 전력판매사업자 입장에서 최대의 이득을 얻기 위한 적정 인센티브와 부하 감축량을 결정한다.

Development of a Composite Revenue Sharing-Quantity Flexibility Contract

  • In supply chain management, the supply contract can induce collaboration and coordination among the supply chain members in order to optimize supply chain performance. Numerous supply contracts have been examined; however, some difficulties related to the application of these contracts still occur. One of the solutions is to apply the composite supply contract which can assist in the supply chain coordination. This research examines the composite contract of the revenue sharing and quantity flexibility contracts in a two-stage supply chain, which comprises a retailer and a supplier. In this research, a mathematical model of the composite contract is developed; then, the applicability of the proposed composite contract is examined by investigating its capability in terms of supply chain coordination and profit allocation. In the numerical experiments, the composite revenue sharing-quantity flexibility contract showed that it is superior to both component contracts in terms of supply chain coordination and profit allocation among supply chain members.

  • Normally, suppliers have to decide on what, how much, and when to replenish stocks of goods based on a data flow generated by a vendor managed inventory(VMI) system. But information from supply chain is often misleading. It is common for such data to be distorted by a lack of coordination and synchronization across several business entities managing different supply chain operations. This phenomenon is called the 'bullwhip effect(BwE)'. Many researchers, working over many years, have studied the reasons for the BwE. They have proposed various remedies, but this phenomenon persists. Though overlooked in previous research, this paper reveals that the 'lot size' of a supply chain of distribution is indeed the main cause of the BwE. In addition, some problems in the existing methods of measuring the BwE are identified and a revised much improved method of measurement is suggested.

  • 국내에 진출한 Carrefour, Wal-Mart, Tesco(home plus) 등 다국적화된 소매기업들을 통하여 주 2 휴일제 실시로 변화가 예상되는 그들의 점포운영방안을 실적을 분석해봄으로써 보다 효율적인 경영전략과 운영 방안을 모색해보고자 하였다. 국내 할인점의 포화기 진입단계에 들어선 시점에서 국내 진출 다국적 기업들은 국내 선두 기업과 비교하여 짧은 진출 역사에도 안정성과 수익성 측면, 활동성 부문에도 양호한 결과를 나타내고 있으며, 이들의 운영의 전략적 측면은 구매 부문의 EDLP와 운영부문에 EDLC가 선 순환되고 유통·물류정보시스템과 결합하면서 Low Cost Operation이 추진하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 다국적 소매기업들은 표준화와 현지화를 대립이 아닌 양립과 조화로 보면서 현지화 부문에서는 MD(VMD) 부문 개선과 고객서비스를 개선함으로써 국내 기업들의 강한 경쟁자로서 접근하고 있다고 판단된다. 일부 우려에 대한 다국적 기업의 실적 저조에 대한 판단은 그들의 경영전략과 현지화 단계에서의 차이를 감안하면 이른 판단으로 사려 되며, 이러한 다국적화 소매유통기업에 대한 운영방안에 대한 고찰은 다국적 소매기업 및 국내 소매업체들의 경쟁력 향상에도 기여할 것으로 본다.
