  • The bead is used to provide properly restraining force in the sheet metal forming process. This bead process includes bending and geometrical non-linearity, and affects the state of binderwrap. Therefore, the analysis of bead process is very important to obtain the desired formability. In this paper, the research about the influence of the punch stroke of bead on the draw-bead process was conducted. Results from the analysis will give useful information to the effective tool design of blank forming process. To analyze the bead process, and elasto-plastic finite element formulation is constructed from the equilibrium equation and the considered boundary conditions involved a proper contact condition. The static-explicit finite element method as a numerical method for the analysis was applied to the analysis program code. It was found that this method could solve too much computation time and convergence problem owing to high non-linearity of bead forming process.

  • The compensated-current-differential relay uses the same restraining current as a conventional relay, but the differential current is modified to compensate for the effects of the exciting current. Delta winding current is necessary to obtain the modified differential current for a $Y-\Delta$ transformer. This paper describes an estimation algorithm of the delta winding current and its application to a compensated-current-differential relay for a $Y-\Delta$ transformer. Prior to saturation, the core-loss current is calculated and used to modify the differential current. When the core first enters saturation, the initial value of the core flux is obtained by inserting the modified differential current into the magnetization curve. This flux value is used to derive the magnetizing current and consequently the modified differential current. The operating performance of the proposed relay was compared against a conventional current differential relay with harmonic blocking. Test results indicate that the proposed relay remained stable during severe magnetic inrush and over-excitation, and its operating time is significantly faster than a conventional relay. The relay is unaffected by the level of remanent flux and does not require an additional restraining or blocking signal to maintain stability. This paper concludes by implementing the proposed algorithm into a prototype relay based on a digital signal processor.

  • This paper proposes a modified current differential relay for $Y-{\Delta}$ transformer protection. The relay uses the same restraining current as a conventional relay, but the differential current is modified to compensate for the effects of the exciting current. A method to estimate the circulating component of the delta winding current is proposed. To cope with the remanent flux, before saturation, the core-loss current is calculated and used to modify the measured differential current. When the core then enters saturation, the initial value of the flux is obtained by inserting the modified differential current at the start of saturation into the magnetization cure. Thereafter, the core flux is then derived and used in conjunction with the magnetization curve to calculate the magnetizing current. A modified differential current is then derived that compensates for the core-loss and magnetizing currents. The performance of the proposed differential relay was compared against a conventional differential relay. Test results indicate that the modified relay remained stable during severe magnetic inrush and over-excitation, because the exciting current was successfully compensated. This paper concludes by implementing the relay on a hardware platform based on a digital signal processor. The relay does not require additional restraining signal and thus cause time delay of the relay.

  • This paper investigated the accuracy of the current design formulae for the elastic buckling strength of web-tapered I-beams in AISC-LRFD specification. The basic concept is to replace a tapered beam by an equivalent prismatic beam with a different length, but with a cross section identical to that of the smaller end of the tapered beam. The modification factor, B, is used to account for the stress gradient within the unbraced length and the lateral restraining effects offered by the adjacent segments. The modification factor(B) suggested in AISC-LRFD specification was compared with the finite element method(FEM) results. This paper presented a redefined method to calculate the modification factor(B).

  • The estimation of occupant injury risk at crash accident is one of the most important assessments for the vehicle crashworthiness performance. The design of safety devices such as occupant restraining system also depend on the kinematics of occupant and its injury risk. The real world in-depth accident investigation provides detailed and realistic information of vehicle damage and occupant injury as well as the accident conditions. This paper introduces a statistical analysis of NASS/CDS database and domestic accident data to correlate speed change, vehicle damage extend, and occupant injury at frontal crash. The maximum crush extend shows a linear relationship with the effective impact speed. The injury risks of the occupant with and without restraining were also respectively quantified with the crush extend. This result can be effectively used for the emergent rescue of crash victims with automatic crash notification system.

  • It has reported that a median bus-stop island on an exclusive median bus lane (EMBL) has shortened a crossing distance unit, encouraged a pedestrian's illegal crossing, and increased the number of accidents in the area. This study presents (1) the analysis of inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns collected on exclusive median bus corridors and (2) the estimated performance of safety barriers restraining the occurrence of those. Total 19,649 pedestrian crossing data collected at the 'Sookmyung-university' median bus-stop, and the inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns among those were grouped in terms of time and space violations. Physical safety barriers restraining illegal pedestrian crossings were considered as an alternative, and its performance in safety was quantified through microscopic simulation with conflict analyses by using surrogate safety assessment model. The findings suggest the number of conflicts reduced be 24.9 percentages compared to the one of the present condition when the physical safety barriers are placed at each of the eight ends of the EMBL pedestrian crossing.

  • This study focuses on the algae growth restraining. Many researches on a critical damage from algae growth are published, but it is hard to find how th restrain. Abnormal algae increasing is a problem, because it makes red tides, biodeterioration, etc. Therefore this study aims to decrease the damage from algae growth. Some metal ions have been used microorganism killing materials from old times. Especially, Cu ions are highly effective. Based on these uses of the metal ions, a functional mortar which restrains algae growth is developed. The mortar contains soluble glass which dissolve in water. The soluble glass was made of Cu ions and phosphates. When the soluble glass is dissolved, Cu ions are soaked out stably from the soluble glass. Culture mediums which incubate algae were made to evaluate the developed mortar specimens. Culture mediums were filled with fresh water and sea water. Algae were incubated for fourteen days in culture mediums. The evaluating methods are measuring volume of the dissolved organic carbon and the chlorophyll. Using these two measurements, the mortar specimens are judged that can restrain algae or not. According to the result, the functional mortars of culture medium filled with fresh and sea water shows similar trend. The functional mortar for restraining algae growth performs that's role well.

  • This paper proposes a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that has broadband turning and low-level of phase noise characteristics. Due to the micro-strip line resonant circuit with a low Q value, which is applied to the broadband tuning range, the depreciated phase noise performance is compensated by restraining the harmonics of the oscillating frequency. The VCO was designed according to the proposed structure as well as the conventional structure, and the superiority of the proposed structure was verified through its simulation, fabrication, and measurement.

  • In this paper, we composed utility interactive photovoltaic generation system of current source inverter, and controlled that low harmonic and high power factor are hold by supposing control and compensation method which is concerned with synchronous signal distortion and modulation delay. And we put parallel resonant circuit into dc link, so, magnitude of direct reactance was reduce by restraining direct current pulsation which had accumulation of pulsating power in alternating electrolytic condenser. Also we controlled that modulation factor is operated around maximum output of solar cell.
