Hydrogen emphasis on safety management due to its high potential for accidents from wide explosive limits and low ignition energy. To prevent accidents, appropriate explosion-proof electrical equipment with installed to safe management of ignition sources. However, designing all facilities with explosion-proof structures can significantly increase costs and impose limitations. In this study, we optimize the barrier to effectively control the initial momentum in case of hydrogen release and form the control room as a non-hazardous area. We employed response surface method (RSM), the barrier distance, width and height of the barrier were set as variables. The Box-Behnken design method the selection of 15 cases, and FLACS assessed the presence of hazardous area. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis resulting in an optimized barrier area. Through this methodology, the workplace can optimize the barrier according to the actual workplace conditions and classify reasonable hazardous area, which is believed to secure safety in hydrogen facilities and minimize economic burden.
In the present study, the effect of geometrical parameters of two different types of aluminum thin-walled structures on energy absorption under three-bending impact loading has been investigated experimentally and numerically. To evaluate the effect of parameters on the specific energy absorption (SEA), initial peak crushing force (IPCF), and the maximum crushing distance (δ), a design of experiment technique (DOE) with response surface method (RSM) was applied. Four different thin-walled structures have been tested under the low-velocity impact, and then they have simulated by ABAQUS software. An acceptable consistency between the numerical and experimental results was obtained. In this study, statistical analysis has been performed on various parameters of three different types of tubes. In the first and the second statistical analysis, the dimensional parameters of the cross-section, the number of holes, and the dimensional parameter of holes were considered as the design variables. The diameter reduction rate and the number of sections with different diameters are related to the third statistical analysis. All design points of the statistical method have been simulated by the finite element package, ABAQUS/Explicit. The final result shows that the height and thickness of tubes were more effective than other geometrical parameters, and despite the fact that the deformations of the cylindrical tubes were around forty percent greater than the rectangular tubes, the top desirability was relevant to the cylindrical tubes with reduced cross-sections.
Nowadays, the trend in lunar exploration missions is shifting from prospecting lunar surface to utilizing in-situ resources and establishing sustainable bridgehead. In the past, experiments were mainly focused on rover maneuvers and equipment operations. But the current shift in trend requires more complex experiments that includes preparations for resource extraction, space construction and even space agriculture. To achieve that, the experiment requires a sophisticated simulation of the lunar environment, but we are not yet prepared for this. Particularly, in the case of lunar regolith simulants, precise physical and chemical composition with a rapid development speed rate that allows different terrains to be simulated is required. However, existing lunar regolith simulants, designed for 20th-century exploration paradigms, are not sufficient to meet the requirements of modern space exploration. In order to prepare for the latest trends in space exploration, it is necessary to innovate the methodology for producing simulants. In this study, the basic framework for lunar regolith simulant development was established to realize this goal. The framework not only has a sample database and a database of potential simulation target compositions, but also has a built-in function to automatically calculate the optimal material mixing ratio through the particle swarm optimization algorithm to reproduce the target simulation, enabling fast and accurate simulant development. Using this framework, we anticipate a more agile response to the evolving needs toward simulants for space exploration.
A microorganism producing carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase) was isolated from seawater, identified as Bacillus velezensis by analyses of 16S rDNA and partial sequences of the gyrA, and designated as B. velezensis A-68. The optimal conditions for production of CMCase by B. velezensis A-68 were established using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimal concentrations of rice hulls and yeast extract, and initial pH of the medium for cell growth were 60.2 g/l, 7.38 g/l, and 7.18, respectively, whereas those for production of CMCase were 50.0 g/l, 5.00 g/l, and 7.30. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) implied that the most significant factor for cell growth as well as production of CMCase was yeast extract. The optimal concentrations of $K_2HPO_4$, NaCl, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ in the medium for cell growth were 7.50, 1.00, 0.10, and 0.80 g/l, respectively, which were the same as those for production of CMCase. The optimal temperatures for cell growth and production of CMCase were 30 and $35^{\circ}C$, respectively. The maximal production of CMCase under optimized conditions was 83.8 U/ml, which was 3.3 times higher than that before optimization. In this study, rice hulls, agro-byproduct, were developed as a substrate for production of CMCase and time for production of CMCase was reduced to 3 days using a newly isolated marine bacterium.

The Maillard reaction is a non-enzymatic reaction between amino and carbonyl groups. During milk processing, lactose reacts with milk protein through this reaction. Infant formulas (IFs) are milk-based products processed with heat-treatments, including spray-drying and sterilization. Because IFs contain higher Maillard reaction products (MRPs) than breast milk, formula-fed infants are subject to higher MRP exposure than breast milk-fed ones. In this study, we investigated the optimization of conditions for minimal MRP formation with the addition of $\small{L}$-carnitine ($\small{L}$-car), pyridoxine hydrochloride (PH), and $\small{DL}$-${\alpha}$-tocopheryl acetate (${\alpha}$-T) in an IF model system. MRP formation was monitored by response surface methodology using fluorescence intensity (FI) and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content. The optimal condition for minimizing the formation of MRPs was with $2.3{\mu}M$$\small{L}$-car, $15.8{\mu}M$ PH, and $20.6{\mu}M$${\alpha}$-T. Under this condition, the predicted values were 77.4% FI and 248.7 ppb HMF.

Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to monitor the characteristics of ethanol extracts from glasswort (Salicornia herbacea). A central composite design was used to investigate the effects of the independent variables of sample ratio, extraction temperature, and ethanol concentration on the dependent variables color, sugar, salinity, yield, electron donating ability, and total polyphenol content of extracts. The maximum $^{\circ}Brix$ (8.46) was obtained under specific extraction conditions, with a sample ratio of 7.04 g/100 mL, an extraction temperature of $89.01^{\circ}C$, and an ethanol concentration of 34.29% v/v. At a sample ratio, extraction temperature, and ethanol concentration of 7.00 g/100 mL, $89.15^{\circ}C$, and 34.14% v/v, respectively, the salinity was 7.35%. When the sample ratio, extraction temperature, and ethanol concentration were 5.56 g/100 mL, $68.61^{\circ}C$, and 99.14% v/v, respectively, the maximum electron donating ability was 86.10%. A maximized total polyphenol content of 1,140.15 mg/100 g was found with the following conditions: sample ratio of 8.6 g/100 mL, extraction temperature of $64.19^{\circ}C$, and ethanol concentration of 71.74% v/v. Overall, the optimal ranges of extraction conditions for effective components of glasswort were 3.38.5.33 g/100 mL sample ratio, $55.87-76.96^{\circ}C$, and 25.00.67.31% v/v ethanol.

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum spray drying conditions of soft persimmon latte using response surface methodology that is a statistical procedure used for optimization studies. A central composite design was applied to investigate the effects of independent variables, inlet temperature ($X_1$), air flow rate ($X_2$), and feed flow rate ($X_3$), on responses such as yield, water absorption index, and total phenolic compounds. Statistical analysis revealed that independent variables significantly affected all the responses. A maximum yield of 8.11 g was obtained at $90^{\circ}C$ of $X_1$, 51.82 mL/min of $X_2$ and 7.00 mL/min of $X_3$. A minimum water absorption index of 0.58 was obtained at $101^{\circ}C$ of $X_1$, 60.00 mL/min of $X_2$ and 17.00 mL/min of $X_3$. A maximum total phenolic compounds of $298.02{\mu}g/mL$ was obtained at $90^{\circ}C$ of $X_1$, 43.33 mL/min of $X_2$ and 17.00 mL/min of $X_3$. In conclusion, the best spray drying conditions were as follows: $X_1$, $90^{\circ}C$; $X_2$, 53 mL/min; $X_3$, 17 mL/min. Under those optimal conditions, the powder's yield (7.46 g), water absorption index (0.54), and the content of total phenolic compounds ($294.75{\mu}g/mL$) were estimated.
The optimal concentrations of salts in medium for cell growth and the production of carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase) by a recombinant E. coli JM109/DL-3 were established using two statistical methods: orthogonal array method (OAM) and response surface method (RSM). The analysis of variance (ANOVA) of data based on OAM indicated that $K_2HPO_4$ gave maximum sum of square (S) and percentage contribution (P) for cell growth as well as production of CMCase. The optimal concentrations of $K_2HPO_4$, NaCl, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ in medium for cell growth extracted by Qualitek-4 (W32b) Software were 10.0, 1.0, 0.2, and 0.6 g/l, respectively, whereas those for the production of CMCase by E. coli JM109/DL-3 were 5.0, 1.0, 0.4, and 0.6 g/l. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) resulting from RSM indicated that a highly significant salt for cell growth was $K_2HPO_4$ ("probe>F" less than 0.0001), whereas $K_2HPO_4$ and $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ were significant for the production of CMCase. The optimal concentrations of $K_2HPO_4$, NaCl, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, and $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ for cell growth extracted by Design Expert Software were 7.44, 1.08, 0.22, and 0.88 g/l, respectively, whereas those for production of CMCase were 5.84, 0.69, 0.28, and 0.54 g/l. The optimal concentrations of salts and their influences on cell growth and production of CMCase extracted by OAM were almost the same as those by RSM. Production of CMCase by a recombinant E. coli JM109/DL-3 under optimized concentration of salts was 1.93 times higher than that by Bacillus amyloliquifaciens DL-3.
Response Surface Methodology (RSM), which is combining with Plackett-Burman design and Box-Behnken experimental design, was applied to optimize the ratios of the nutrient components for carotenoid production by Rhodobacter sphaeroides PS-24 in liquid state fermentation. Nine nutrient ingredients containing yeast extract, sodium acetate, NaCl, $K_2HPO_4$, $MgSO_4$, mono-sodium glutamate, $Na_2CO_3$, $NH_4Cl$ and $CaCl_2$ were finally selected for optimizing the medium composition based on their statistical significance and positive effects on carotenoid yield. Box-Behnken design was employed for further optimization of the selected nutrient components in order to increase carotenoid production. Based on the Box-Behnken assay data, the secondary order coefficient model was set up to investigate the relationship between the carotenoid productivity and nutrient ingredients. The important factors having influence on optimal medium constituents for carotenoid production by Rhodobacter sphaeroides PS-24 were determined as follows: yeast extract 1.23 g, sodium acetate 1 g, $NH_4Cl$ 1.75 g, NaCl 2.5 g, $K_2HPO_4$ 2 g, $MgSO_4$ 1.0 g, mono-sodium glutamate 7.5 g, $Na_2CO_3$ 3.71 g, $NH_4Cl$ 3.5g, $CaCl_2$ 0.01 g, per liter. Maximum carotenoid yield of 18.11 mg/L was measured by confirmatory experiment in liquid culture using 500 L fermenter.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum sterilization conditions for the production of retorted steamed egg using response surface methodology. Sterilization processes for eighteen conditions using varying sterilization temperature ($X_1$), time ($X_2$), and method ($X_3$) as the independent variables were carried out through a $3^2{\times}2$ experimental factorial design. Quality evaluations after sterilization included measurements of $F_0$ value ($Y_1$), peak stress ($Y_2$), pH ($Y_3$), color value ($Y_{4-6}$), and organoleptic test [preference for appearance ($Y_7$), overall acceptability ($Y_8$), and preference for texture ($Y_9$) and egg taste ($Y_{10}$)]. Dependent variables ($Y_{1-10}$) of eighteen conditions were more affected by temperature and time than by the sterilization method. Eight factors were selected among the dependent variables as significant factors related to the quality of the steamed egg. Finally, by establishing an optimum range of each dependent variable and contour analysis, the optimum sterilization conditions for the production of steamed egg were determined to be $120^{\circ}C$ for 25 min using a 2-step sterilization process.
