  • A design technique based on the root locus approach for the SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) systems using PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) ${\times}$ (n-1) stage PD as a controller for the n$\^$th/ order plant is presented. The controller is designed based on transient and steady state response specifications. This controller can be used instead of a conventional PID controller. The overall system is approximated as a stable and robust second order system. The desired performances are achieved by increase the gain of the controller. In addition, the controller gain can be adjusted to obtain faster response with a little overshoot. The simulation results show the merits of this approach.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the static and dynamic characteristics of automotive rubber components by computer simulation. Bush / rectangular type engine mounts and wind shield weather strip are analyzed by using the commercial code ABAQUS and the results are verified by experiments. Large deformation static response is analyzed in order to get the information about the deformation pattern and static stiffness of engine mounts, and about the seperation force of wind shield weather strip from body. The isothermal steady-state dynamic response of components which have been subjected to an initial static pre-load is analyzed for the dynamic stiffness of engine mount rubber components. There are good agreements between simulation and experiments. So it is possible to apply the computer simulation to the design of automotive rubber components.

  • Efficiency optimization of an indirect vector controlled induction motor drive is proposed. The loss models are used in the validation of the fuzzy logic based on-line efficiency optimization control. At steady state, the fuzzy controller adaptively changes the excitation current on the basis of measured input power, until the maximum efficiency point is reached. The pulsating torque, due to flux reduction, has been compensated by an ingenious feedforward scheme. During transient state, rated flux is established to get the best transient response. Through a comprehensive simulation study, the results confirmed the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a Mamdani fuzzy PID controller for controlling a process with small dead time. The controller composes of a parallel structure of fuzzy PI controller and fuzzy PD controller. Each controller has two inputs, error and change of error. Hence, the control signal of the proposed controller is the average value of the output of the fuzzy PI and PD controllers. The Mamdani fuzzy PID controller is easily to be adjusted to meet the desired control system performances both in transient state and steady state. The simulation results of the proposed Mamdani fuzzy PID controller by using the same parameters (proportional gain, integral time and derivative time) as the conventional PID controller are shown.   • This paper presents a design technique of the fuzzy PID controller for power system stabilization. PID parameters of the fuzzy PID controller was self-tuned by the fuzzy inference algorithm. The Nosed controller compare with conventional power system stabilizer(PSS) under various of initial value of rotor angle deviation and load condition. The related simulation results show that the Nosed controller was more excellent control characteristics than conventional PSS in transient-state and steady-state response.

  • To improve limitations of fuzzy PI controller especially when applied to high order systems, we propose two types of fuzzy logic controllers that take out appropriate amounts of accumulated control input according to fuzzily described situations in addition to the incremental control input calculated by conventional fuzzy PI controllers. The structures of the proposed controller were motivated by the problems of fuzzy PI controllers that they generally give inevitable overshoot when one tries to reduce rise time of response especially when one tries to reduce rise time of response especially when a system of order higher than one is under consideration. Since the undesirable characteristics of the fuzzy PI controller are caused by integrating operation of the controller, even though the integrator itself is introduced to overcome steady state error in response, we propose two fuzzy controllers that fuzzily clear out integrated quantities according to situation. The first contr ller determines the fuzzy resetting rate by situations described fuzzily by error and error rate, and the second one by error and control input. The two structures both give reduced rise time as well as small overshoot. To show the usefulness of the proposed controller, that are applied to systems that are difficult to get satisfactory response by conventional fuzzy PI controllers.

  • We report results on microtribological studies of chemically grafted nanoscale polymer layers of different architecture with thickness below 30 nm. We have fabricated the molecular lubrication coatings from elastomeric tri-block copolymers and tested two different designs of corresponding nanocomposite coatings. We observed a significant reduction of friction forces and an increase of the wear stability when a minute amount of oil was trapped within the grafted polymer layer. These polymer gel layers exhibited a very steady friction response and a small value of the coefficient of friction as compared to the initial polymer coating. A polymer 'triplex' coating has been formed by a multiple grafting technique. The unique design of this layer Includes a hard-soft-hard architecture with a compliant rubber interlayer mediating localized stresses transferred through the topmost hard layer. This architecture provides a non-linear mechanical response under a normal compression stress and allows additional dissipation of mechanical energy via the elastic rubber interlayer.

  • An automatic point traffic control method is recommended for more idealistic traffic flow over coarse road netowrks. The automatic control apparatus recommended, consists of a transceiver, amplifier, digital-to-analog converter, signal light controller for emergency and steady state, and digital counter as monitor. The transmitter sends a signal to the target vy means of Microwave-FM-CW and a diode detector picks up the echo signal. Thus the operation of the entire system will be carried out through an open loop state. Some factors necessary for an ideal detector system are rapid response, longevity and stability. An analytical method of the Doppler effect substitutes the conventional frequency deviation into the amplitude of detector output. The changing rate of amplitude is proportional to the voltage of the detector output. Some induced formula from Maxwell's radiation field theory ensures this new method, and, new method, and proves the fact with an experimental data presentation. Stability depends upon Klystron as an oscillator and a diode as a detector. the transceiver installation affects on the response and sensitivity of the system. In accordance with the detector output, several targets are easily classified by amplitudes on the scope. The traffic flow, i.e., target movement which is analyzed by the amplitude method, is shown through the scope and indicates it on the digital counter. The best efficiency for the amplitude analysis can be attained through use of an antenna having the highest sensitivity.

  • In this paper, we propose a state feedback robust controller of 2-axis gimbal system which have bounded parametric uncertainty. The proposed controller is robust against dynamics variations of gimbal system and contains a dynamic compensator in order to improve a steady state error and a transient response. The stability of the closed-loop system is proved by Lyapunov approach. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation on a 2-axis gimbal system.
