  • The Remote Device Management (RDM) protocol is used to manage the devices in the lighting control networks. RDM provides bi-directional communications between a controller and many lighting devices over the DMX512-A network. In RDM, using a simple binary search scheme, which is based on the 48-bit unique ID (UID) of each device, discovers the lighting devices. However, the existing binary search scheme tends to require a large delay in the device discovery process. In this paper, we propose a novel partition-based discovery scheme for fast device discovery in RDM. In the proposed scheme, all devices are divided into several partitions as per the device UID, and the controller performs device discovery for each partition by configuring a response timer that each device will use. From numerical simulations, we can see that there is an optimal number of partitions to minimize the device discovery time for a given number of devices in the proposed scheme, and also that the proposed partition-based scheme can reduce the device discovery time, as compared to the existing binary search scheme.

  • With the advances of wireless technologies and mobile computing, m-commerce is being realized on many kinds of mobile devices. Service contents for m-commerce are usually newly written to meet specific characteristics of user's mobile devices, thus requiring formidable efforts. So, it is very important to effectively exploit the Internet product information currently being provided for e-commerce. However, bringing those Internet contents to mobile devices is far from straightforward due to the limitations of mobile devices such as little memory, small displays, low processing speeds, and so forth. In this paper, assuming that the Internet products are represented in XML, we suggest four methods to construct the object hierarchy for effectively viewing the documents on the mobile devices. We then compare and analyze them by experiments in terms of response times and required memory size.

  • In this thesis, to verify input-output characteristics of GaAs MESFET, light is illuminated to C-band oscillator which already designed and manufactured, thus input-output variation of GaAs MESFET is to be shown. Experimental results of two kinds of optical effects, optical tuning and opticla switching, of GaAs MESFET Oscillators are presented. For optical tuning, the Oscillation frequency decreases with optical illumination and the Oscillator power output generally increases with optical illumination, the increase being around 1 to 3 dBm at 1mW/mm\ulcornerlight intensity. While the DC-lingt illuminated Oscillator response data provide information of the optical senditivity of GaAs-MESFET Oscillators. Pulse-light illuminated transient response data can be invoked to understand the detailed optical-electrical interaction mechanisms response. Thus, it is shown that direct control of micro-devices is realisable, if we use optical effect of GaAs semiconductor compound.

  • Allowable stress design method have been most widely used in steel structure in Korea. Recently, not only high-rise buildings but also medium or low-rise buildings were designed as steel structure. Most of low-rise steel buildings are designed as ordinary moment resisting frames(MRF). But MRFs don't have any lateral force resisting devices such as bracing in braced frames. This study focuses mainly on nonlinear seismic response analyses of small scale steel frames which will be used later as specimens for the evaluation of MRF's seismic performances. The main parameters of analyses are arrangement of column axis, $P-{\Delta}$ effect, acceleration factor etc. The object of this paper is to estimate the seismic performances of MRFs, which are mostly designed in Korea, through the results of response analyses.

  • This paper deals with frequency analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beams carrying an arbitrary number of Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic dampers, subjected to harmonic loads. Multiple external/internal dampers occurring at the same position along the beam axis, modeling external damping devices and internal damping due to damage or imperfect connections, are considered. The challenge is to handle simultaneous discontinuities of the response, in particular bending-moment/rotation discontinuities at the location of external/internal rotational dampers, shear-force/deflection discontinuities at the location of external/internal translational dampers. Following a generalized function approach, the paper will show that exact closed-form expressions of the frequency response under point/polynomial loads can readily be derived, for any number of dampers. Also, the exact dynamic stiffness matrix and load vector of the beam will be built in a closed analytical form, to be used in a standard assemblage procedure for exact frequency response analysis of frames.

  • In the field of Internet of Things (IoT), smarter embedded devices offer functions via web services. The Quality-of-Service (QoS) prediction is a key measure that guarantees successful IoT service applications. In this study, a collaborative filtering method is presented for predicting response time of IoT service due to time-awareness characteristics of IoT. First, a calculation method of service response time similarity between different users is proposed. Then, to improve prediction accuracy, initial similarity values are adjusted and similar neighbors are selected by a similarity threshold. Finally, via a densified user-item matrix, service response time is predicted by collaborative filtering for current active users. The presented method is validated by experiments on a real web service QoS dataset. Experimental results indicate that better prediction accuracy can be achieved with the presented method.

  • Estimation of the frequency response of Ti:LiNb03 traveling-wave optical modulator with phase reversal electrodes is succinctly presented. The fact that such devices may have bandpass characteristics is demonstrated through simulations based on the derived equations. The influence of each parameter of traveling-wave electrodes on the frequency response is investigated in detail. It is shown that the center frequency and the bandwidth of response curves can be effectively adjustable by changing the MW effective index and the interaction length of the electrodes. rodes.

  • Isolation technology has been proven effective in reducing the seismic response of superstructures, where most of the deformation is concentrated in the isolation layer. However, in cases of earthquakes with intensities surpassing the fortification level of the area, or severe near-fault earthquakes, the isolation layer may experience excessive deformation, resulting in damage to the isolation bearings or collisions with the retaining wall or surrounding buildings. In this study, a finite element model using ABAQUS is established and compared with experimental test results to deeply investigate the influence of limit devices on the isolation layer and its response to the superstructure. The findings reveal that a larger limiter stiffness and a smaller reserved gap can achieve a more effective limiting effect. Nevertheless, a smaller reserved gap and a larger limiter stiffness may result in increased response of the superstructure. Therefore, rational selection of the reserved gap and limiter stiffness is crucial to reduce the acceleration response.

  • The flexible solid state device has been widely studied as portable and wearable device applications such as display, sensor and curved circuits. A zero-bias operation without any external power consumption is a highly-demanding feature of semiconductor devices, including optical communication, environment monitoring and digital imaging applications. Moreover, the flexibility of device would give the degree of freedom of transparent electronics. Functional and transparent abrupt p/n junction device has been realized by combining of p-type NiO and n-type ZnO metal oxide semiconductors. The use of a plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film substrate spontaneously allows the flexible feature of the devices. The functional design of p-NiO/n-ZnO metal oxide device provides a high rectifying ratio of 189 to ensure the quality junction quality. This all transparent metal oxide device can be operated without external power supply. The flexible p-NiO/n-ZnO device exhibit substantial photodetection performances of quick response time of $68{\mu}s$. We may suggest an efficient design scheme of flexible and functional metal oxide-based transparent electronics.

  • Many manufacturing devices must execute motions as quickly as possible to achieve profitable high-volume production. Most of them have devices having flexibility and a time delay of one sampling is added to the plants when they are controlled by fast discrete controllers, which brings about non-minimum phase zeros. This paper develops a control strategy that combines feedforward and feedback control with command shaping for such devices. First, the feedback controller is designed to increase damping and eliminate steady-state error. Next, the feedforward controller is designed to speed up the transient response. Finally, an appropriate reference profile is generated using command-shaping techniques to ensure fast point-to-point motions with minimum residual vibration. The particular focus of the paper is to understand the interactions between these individual control components. The resulting control strategy is demonstrated on a model of a high-speed semiconductor manufacturing machine.
