  • In this paper, we analyze the necessary and sufficient condition introduced in [5]: that a functional F in $L^2(C_{a,b}[0,T])$ has an integral transform ${\mathcal{F}}_{{\gamma},{\beta}}F$, also belonging to $L^2(C_{a,b}[0,T])$. We then establish the inverse integral transforms of the functionals in $L^2(C_{a,b}[0,T])$ and then examine various properties with respect to the inverse integral transforms via the translation theorem. Several possible outcomes are presented as remarks. Our approach is a new method to solve some difficulties with respect to the inverse integral transform.

  • From Post-Modern Edo-language of Japan, it is possible to find expression formats related to current Tokyo language. However, in some cases, Tokyo language and Edo-language has the same format but different usage. One example is the ending portion of a sentence. This research investigates conclusive expressions of Edo-language in literary works excluding the usage of "ダ". Various formats of conclusive expressions appear in a conversation, and the usage is closely related to the speaker's sex, age, and social status. Also from the study, it was possible to see that the social relationship between a speaker and a listener and a conversation circumstance has an effect on the usage of conclusive expressions. In addition, usage does not conform to the current standard Japanese. 1. Currently "である(dearu)" format is seldom used in speaking, it is used with "だ" only in writing. The study found no case of "である(dearu)" in conclusive expressions but some use of "であろうて(dearoute) であらうな(dearouna)" "であったのう(deattanou) であったよ(deattayo)" only in old aged male. 2. "であります(dearimasu)" format is a typical Edo-language used by society-women (Japanese hostess who has a good education and an elegant speaking skills). This format was used once in "浮世風呂"(ukiyoburo) and 14 times in "梅?"(umegoyomi), but speakers were always a female. The reason for 14 occurrences in "梅?" is closely related to the fact that the main characters are society-women and genre is "人情本(ninjoubourn)" which is popular type of cultural literature (based on humanity and romance) in late Edo period. 3. "でござる" format is originally used as a respect-language but later changed to a polite language. The format is always used by male. It is a male language used by old aged people with a genteel manner such as a medical doctor, a retired man, or a funny-song writer. 4. "ございます(gozaimasu) ごぜへます(gozeemasu)" The study found the speaker's social status has a connection with the use of "ごぜへます(gozeemasu)" format. Which is "ございます(gozaimasu)" format but instead of [ai], long vowel [eː] is used. "ごぜへます(gozeemasu)" is more used by a female than a male and only used by young and mid-to-low class people. The format has a tough nuance and less elegant feel, therefore high class and/or educated ladies have a clear tendency to avoiding it

  • In the present study, we investigated whether rosmarinic acid, which has been suggested to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, can suppress the expressions of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and macrophage inflammatory protein-$1{\alpha}$ ($MIP-1{\alpha}$) via the MAPK pathway in LPS-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) in the presence of GM-CSF and IL-4 in media. The effects of rosmarinic acid were investigated in BMDCs with respect to the following; cytotoxicity, surface molecule expression, dextran-FITC uptake, cell migration, chemokine gene expression, and the MAPK signaling pathway. Rosmarinic acid was found to significantly inhibit the expressions of CD80, CD86, MHC class I, and MHC class II in LPS-stimulated mature BMDCs, and rosmarinic acid-treated BMDCs were found to be highly efficient with regards to antigen capture via mannose receptor-mediated endocytosis. In addition, rosmarinic acid reduced cell migration by inducing the expression of a specific chemokine receptor on LPS-induced mature BMDCs. Rosmarinic acid also significantly reduced the expressions of MCP-1 and $MIP-1{\alpha}$ induced by LPS in BMDCs and inhibited LPS-induced activation of MAPK and the nuclear translocation of $NF-{\kappa}B$. These findings broaden current perspectives concerning our understanding of the immunopharmacological functions of rosmarinic acid, and have ramifications that concern the development of therapeutic drugs for the treatment of DC-related acute and chronic diseases.

  • Although line production systems with finite buffers have been studied over several decades, except for some special cases there are no explicit expressions for system performances such as waiting times(or response time) and blocking probability. Recently, a max-plus algebraic approach for buffer-sharing systems with constant processing times was introduced and it can lead to analytic expressions for (higher) moment and tail probability of stationary waiting. Theoretically this approach can be applied to general processing times, but it cannot give a proper way for computing performance measures. To this end, in this study we developed simulation models using @RISK software and the expressions derived from max-plus algebra, and computed and compared blocking probability, waiting time (or response time) with respect to two blocking policies: communication(BBS: Blocking Before Service) and production(BAS: Blocking After Service). Moreover, an optimization problem which determines the minimum shared-buffer capacity satisfying a predetermined QoS(quality of service) is also considered.

  • An elongated object in one direction can be approximated as a line segment. Here, the closed-form expressions of a line segment's vector magnetic and magnetic gradient tensor are required to interpret responses by a line segment. Therefore, the analytical expressions of the vector magnetic and magnetic gradient tensor are derived. The vector magnetic is converted from the existing gravity gradient tensor using Poisson's relation where the gravity gradient tensor caused by a line segment can be transformed into a vector magnetic. Then, the magnetic gradient tensor is derived by differentiating the vector magnetic with respect to each axis in the Cartesian coordinate system. The synthetic total magnetic data simulated by an iron pile on boreholes are inverted by a nonlinear inversion process so that the physical parameters of the iron pile, including the beginning point, the length, orientation, and magnetization vector are successfully estimated.

  • In this paper, the vector gravity and gravity gradient tensor of an elliptical disk are derived. The vector gravity of an elliptical disk is defined by differentiating the gravitational potential due to the elliptical disk expressed by a double integral with respect to each axial direction. The vector gravity defined by the double integral is then transformed into a line integral of a closed curve along the elliptical disk boundary using the complex Green's theorem. Finally, vector gravity due to the elliptical disk is derived by 1D parametric numerical integration along the elliptical disk boundary. The xz, yz, zz components of the gravity gradient tensor due to the elliptical disk are obtained by differentiating the vector gravity with respect to vertical direction. The xx, yy, xy components are derived by differentiating the horizontal components of the vector gravity in the form of a double integral with respect to horizontal directions and then using the complex Green's theorem.

  • In this paper, using an adjoint variable method, we develop a design sensitivity analysis (DSA) method applicable to heat conduction problems in steady state. Also, a topology design optimization method is developed using the developed DSA method. Design sensitivity expressions with respect to the thermal conductivity are derived. Since the already factorized system matrix is utilized to obtain the adjoint solution, the cost for the sensitivity computation is trivial. For the topology design optimization, the design variables are parameterized into normalized bulk material densities. The objective function and constraint are the thermal compliance of structures and allowable material volume, respectively. Through several numerical examples, the developed DSA method is verified to yield very accurate sensitivity results compared with finite difference ones, requiring less than 0.3% of CPU time far the finite differencing. Also, the topology optimization yields physical meaningful results.

  • This paper presents the improvement of the EC-2 and EHE-08 shear strength formulations for concrete beams with shear reinforcement. The employed method is based on the genetic programming (GP) technique, which is configured to generate symbolic regression from a set of experimental data by considering the interactions among precision, accuracy, safety and simplicity. The size effect and the influence of the amount of shear reinforcement are examined. To develop and verify the models, 257 experimental tests on concrete beams from the literature are used. Three expressions of considerable simplicity, which significantly improve the shear strength prediction with respect to the formulations of the different studied codes, are proposed.

  • Quantifier floating is one of the much studied phenomena in natural languages where quantifying expressions may appear in places other than their original prenominal one. Its presence is especially prominent in languages such as Korean that allow more or less free word order. We find that, in addition to what is described in the literature, there are other remarkable regularities in the way the language allows quantifiers to “float” with respect to various constructions including coordination, relative clauses, and embedded clauses. These regularities are captured syntactically in a combinatory categorial grammar (CCG) framework for Korean. We also show how to derive semantic representations for Korean quantifier floating in the same CCG framework.
