  • This paper presents the differential type resonant accelerometer (DRXL) and its performance test results. The DRXL is the INS grade, surface micro-machined sensor. The proposed DRXL device produces a differential digital output upon an applied acceleration, and the principle is a gap-dependent electrical stiffness variation of the electrostatic resonator with torsion beam structures. Using this new operating concept, we designed, fabricated and tested the proposed device. The final device was fabricated by using the wafer level vacuum packaging process. To test the performance of the DRXL, a nonlinear self-oscillation loop is designed using describing function technique. The oscillation loop is implemented using discrete electronic elements. The performance test of the DRXL shows that the sensitivity of the accelerometer is 12 Hz/g and its long term bias stability is about $2mg(1{\sigma})$. The turn on repeatability, bandwidth, and dynamic range are 4.38 mg, 100 Hz, and ${\pm}\;70g$, respectively.

  • On-line monitoring of fresh tomato paste processing was done using two radio frequency (RF) sensors resonant at 85 and 110 MHz. Fresh tomato juice with soluble solid content of about $5^{\circ}Brix$ was evaporated up to $23^{\circ}Brix$ and diluted down to about $5^{\circ}Brix$ again with a pilot scale evaporator. The RF sensors were installed in a processing pipe and monitored. The pastes at a specific $^{\circ}Brix$ level were sampled and analyzed for physical properties such as soluble solid content and viscosity. The relationships between sensor outputs and measured physical properties were analyzed. Analysis results showed RF sensor is feasible to apply on-line monitoring of tomato paste processing.

  • A glucose biosensor using a microdisk resonator in polymeric waveguides was developed by observing either the shift in the resonant wavelength or the variation in the optical power. The deformation in the transfer curve of the vertically coupled resonator sensor resulting from the variation in the disk-to-ring coupling, which was incurred by the application of the target analyze, was suppressed. And the refractive index of the polymeric waveguide was devised to closely follow that of the analyze itself for enhancing the sensitivity of the sensor. The sensitivity and measurement range were observed to be respectively 0.14 pm/(mg/dL) and 1500 mg/dL (theoretically up to 4700 mg/dL, for the wavelength shift method and 0.04 dB/(mg/dU and 140 mg/dL the power variation scheme.

  • This paper proposes an ripple reduction algorithm and analyzes the effects of offset and scale errors generated by voltage sensor while measuring grid voltage in grid-tied single-phase inverters. Generally, the grid-connected inverter needs to detect the phase angle information by measuring grid voltage for synchronization, so that the single-phase inverter can be accurately driven based on estimated phase angle information. However, offset and scale errors are inevitably generated owing to the non-linear characteristics of voltage sensor and these errors affect that the phase angle includes 1st harmonic component under using SRF-PLL(Synchronous Reference Frame - Phase Locked Loop) system for detecting grid phase angle. Also, the performance of the overall system is degraded from the distorted phase angle including the specific harmonic component. As a result, in this paper, offset and scale error due to the voltage sensor in single-phase grid connected inverter under SRF-PLL is analyzed in detail and proportional resonant controller is used to reduce the ripples caused by the offset error. Especially, the integrator output of PI(Proportional Integral) controller in SRF-PLL is selected as an input signal of the proportional resonant controller. Simulation and experiment are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper described the outputs of acoustic sensors due to the vibration of particles in the mock up GIS. We used the two type of acoustic sensors which had 150kHz resonant frequency and 60kHz resonant frequency respectively. In the experiment of the mock up GIS we paid attention to the relationship between applied voltages and sensor outputs due to particles. In this results fall down voltages depended on the material and length of particles but lift off voltages depended on the materials of particles. And the sensors outputs were increased with applied voltages in the same particle.

  • Switched Reluctance Motors have an inexpensive, intrinsic simplicity and low cost that makes them well suited to home appliance and office applications. However the motor suffering with necessity of shaft position sensor, lead to non-linearity of operations. Further, the involvement of static converters deteriorates the operational power factor. Implementation of a sensorless algorithm, can remove the need of position sensors. Also, the drive includes a compact power factor control in the input stage by implementing Zero Current Switching Quasi-Resonant Boost Technology. This paper presented, aims at optimized low line current distortion, high power factor, low cost and a shaft position sensorless Switched Reluctance Motor drive.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of polycrystalline 3C-SiC doubly clamped beam micro resonators. The polycrystalline 3C-SiC doubly clamped beam resonators with 60 ~ 100 ${\mu}m$ lengths, $10\;{\mu}m$ width, and $0.4\;{\mu}m$ thickness were fabricated using a surface micromachining technique. Polycrystalline 3C-SiC micro resonators were actuated by piezoelectric element and their fundamental resonant frequency was measured by a laser vibrometer in vacuum at room temperature. For the 60 ~ 100 ${\mu}m$ long cantilevers, the fundamental frequency appeared at 373.4 ~ 908.1 kHz. The resonant frequencies of doubly clamped beam with lengths were higher than simulated results because of tensile stress. Therefore, polycrystalline 3C-SiC doubly clamped beam micro resonators are suitable for RF MEMS devices and bio/chemical sensor applications.

  • Wideband terminal and base station is required to serve not only existing 1st and 2nd generation mobile communication systems but also 3rd generation systems. In this paper, we present a feasibility study on coaxial feed compact wideband antenna for UHF RFID reader application. The original antenna was designed for partial discharge detection sensor in high voltage diagnostic system. However, we modified the original prototype to achieve shifted down resonant frequency for wideband wireless communication applications. The experimental result shows good return loss characteristics and radiation patterns except for the total gain at each resonant frequency. The maximum measured gain was 2.45 dBi$\sim$3.18 dBi at 910MHz.

  • To measure the curvature, in this paper, we investigate an optical curvature sensor based on the fiber Bragg gratings. We observed the variation of the Bragg resonant wavelength shift to measure the curvature change. From the experimental results, we knew that the Brags resonant wavelength shift was lineally increased with the increase of the curvature from $0\;m^{-1}$ to $10\;m^{-1}$. It's slope is about $8.8\;pm/m^{-1}$. On the other hand, the spectral reflection decreased with the increase of the curvature.
