Anti-arteriosclerotic and Anti-hyperlipidemic Effects of Sea Mustard (Undaria pinnatifida) in Sprague-Dawley rats

  • This study investigated the inhibitory effects of sea mustard on high-fat diet-induced obesity and hyperlipidemia in Sprague-Dawley rats. Sea mustard (Undaria pinnatifida) powder, sea mustard ethanol extract, and sea mustard ethanol-extracted residue were tested. The ethanol extracted residue had the most beneficial anti-hyperlipidemic activity. Alginate in the sea mustard was considered to be the key component. The ethanol-extracted residue of sea mustard also had antioxidant activity, which may be effective in preventing hyperlipidemia by increasing the enzymatic activity of superoxide dismutase, which can remove active oxygen from the bloodstream.

시판 우유중의 잔류 Penicillin에 관한 실험연구 (A Study on Penicillin Residue In Market Milk in Seoul)

  • The study Was carried out to determine the residue concentrations of peniccillin in Merket milk samples collected from some of the retail shops located in Seoul City. During the period from June to September 1974, 160 milk samples were collected and examined, using the Filter Paper Disk Method, for Screening test and Quantitative test of penicillin residue. The results obtained in the study were as follows: 1. Among the 160 Market Milk samples. 28 samples (17.5%) proved to contain some antibiotics residue. 2. In the case of the antibiotics residue positive milk samples, the rate of penicillin residue alone was 46.4% and the rate of the other antibiotics was 53.6%. 3. In the distribution of milk plants examined in relation-to the antibiotics residue positive milk samples, it was shown that S.K.H. and M.Market Milk plants had 15.0, 17.5, 20.0 and 17.5 percent respectively. 4. According to the monthly distribution, the highest antibiotics residue positive rate (25.0% of the samples) was shown in the samples collected in August, and the next (20.0% of the samples) in July. While the samples collected in June and September 1974 Showed lower rates of 7.5% and 17.5% respectively. 5. The range of the residue concentraction of penicillin in the positive milk samples were as follows: a. 53.8% of the total samples were found in the lowest range of 0.02-0.05 IU/ml. b. 30.8% of the total samples were found in the lower range of 0.05-0.1 IU/ml. c. 7.7% of the total samlpes were found in the higher range of 0.1-0.2 IU/ml. d. 7.7% of the total samples were found in the highest range of over 0.2 IU/ml.

톳(Hizikia fusiformis)의 Sprague-Dawley계 흰쥐에서 항고지혈증 및 항동맥경화증 효능 (Antihyperlipidemia and Antiarteriosclerosis of Hizikia fusiformis in Sprague-Dawley Rats)

  • The effects of dietary supplementation with Hizikia fusiformis on anti-hyperlipidemic activities were investigated in an animal study in which normal rats were fed Hizikia fusiformis, Hizikia fusiformis ethanol extract and Hizikia fusiformis ethanol extract residue. Serum total lipid and triglyceride levels were significantly (P<0.05) reduced in rats fed Hizikia fusiformis ethanol extract residue at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight when compared to hyperlipidemic control rats. There were also significant decreases in serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in the rats fed Hizikia fusiformis ethanol extract residue at 200 mg/kg body weight. In addition, the atheroscrelosis index and superoxide dismutase in blood lipids were significantly (P<0.05) lowered in rats fed Hizikia fusiformis ethanol extract residue at 200 mg/kg body weight, as compared to control rats. In conclusion, Hizikia fusiformis and Hizikia fusiformis ethanol extract residue had beneficial antihyperlipidemic and antiarteriosclerosis effects.

Protective effects of alginate-free residue of sea tangle against hyperlipidemic and oxidant activities in rats

  • The antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activities of dietary supplementation of sea tangle from Goseong and the alginate-free residue of sea tangle were investigated in Sprague Dawley rats treated with a high-fat diet, streptozotocin, poloxamer 407, and bromobenzene. The alginate-free residue of Goseong sea tangle induced a significant reduction in triglycerides and total cholesterol levels, as well as a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Alginate-free Goseong sea tangle residue reduced the activities of the phase I enzymes aminopyrine N-demethylase and aniline hydroxylase, which had been increased by intraperitoneal injection of bromobenzene. Pretreatment with Goseong sea tangle residue prevented a bromobenzene-induced decrease in epoxide hydrolase activity. Bromobenzene reduced hepatic glutathione content and increased hepatic lipid peroxide levels. Pretreatment with alginate-free Goseong sea tangle residue prevented lipid peroxidation induced by bromobenzene, but pretreatment with Goseong sea tangle did not. These results suggest that Goseong sea tangle residue exerted antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activities that were higher than those induced by alginate-containing sea tangle. Therefore, the alginate-free residue may contain physiologically unknown active components, other than alginic acid, which may potentially be used to prevent hyperlipidemic atherosclerosis.

고추 부위별 chlorothalonil, kresoxim-methyl 및 procymidone 농약성분의 잔류 분포 (Residue Distribution of Chlorothalonil, Kresoxim-methyl and Procymidone among Different Parts of Hot Pepper Plants)

  • Chlorothalonil, kresoxim-methyl 및 procymidone 농약성분은 고추 과육 대 꼭지에서의 잔류농도의 비율이 농약성분에 따라 1:2-5로서 고춧가루에 꼭지가 혼입될 경우 고춧가루 중 농약 잔류량이 약 20%만큼 상승할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 고춧가루의 안전성 확보를 위해서는 고춧가루 제조 시 꼭지가 혼입되지 않도록 해야 할 것이다. 고추 과육 대 고춧잎에서는 실험 농약성분 3종의 잔류농도 비율이 농약성분에 따라 1:11-39로 나타났다. 이것은 현재 실험 농약 3종의 고춧잎에 대한 잔류허용기준의 비설정 조치가 기준 설정 여부의 판단기준에 부합되는 것임을 말한다. 그러나 chlorothalonil 수화제의 경우 고춧잎 식용금지 문구가 부재한데 이것은 식용금지 문구 포함 여부의 판단기준에 부합되지 않으므로 이에 대한 재검토가 필요하다.

Properties of Precursor Pitch Derived from Petroleum Residue

  • Properties of Precursor pitch derived from petroleum residue were studied physical and chemical analysis method for investigation of production of pitch fiber. For preparing of those precursor pitches it was carried out a temperature and time variation experiment i reactor. It was demonstrated the precursor pitch prepared in this study to have a similar properties to Ashland precursor pitch capable of bulk mesophase formation from the results of the basic analysis, that is, molecular weight distribution, coking yield, carbon content, chemical composition, etc.

이온 에너지 분석을 통한 저손상 그래핀 클리닝 연구

  • 그래핀은 높은 전기 전도도와 열전도도, 기계적 강도를 가지고 있고 동시에 높은 전자이동도($200,000cm^2{\cdot}V{\cdot}^1{\cdot}s{\cdot}^1$) 특성을 갖는 물질로써 차세대 소재로 각광받고 있다. 하지만 그래핀을 소자에 응용하기 위해서는 전사공정과 lithography 공정 과정에서 발생되는 PMMA(Poly methyl methacrylate) residue를 완벽하게 제거해야 하는 문제점이 있다. 특히, lithography 공정 중 완벽하게 PMMA residue 가 제거되지 않고 잔류해 있을 경우에 소자의 life time, performance에 악영향을 준다는 보고가 있다. 이와같은 문제를 해결하기 위해 화학적 cleaning, 열처리를 통한 cleaning, 전류 인가에 의한 cleaning과 같은 방법들을 이용하여 그래핀의 PMMA residue를 제거하는 공정들이 보고되고 있지만, 화학적 cleaning 방법의 경우 chloroform 이라는 독성물질 사용으로 인해 산업적으로 응용이 어렵고, 열처리 방법은 전극 등의 금속이 $200^{\circ}C$ 이상의 높은 온도에서 장시간 노출될 경우 쉽게 손상을 입으며, 전류 인가에 의한 cleaning 방법은 국부적으로만 효과를 볼 수 있기 때문에 lithography 공정 후 PMMA residue를 효과적으로 제거하기에는 한계를 보이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Ar을 이용하는 Ion beam 시스템을 통해 beam energy를 제어함으로써 PMMA residue를 효과적으로 제거하는 연구를 진행하였다. 최적화된 플라즈마 발생 조건을 찾기 위해 QMS(Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer)를 이용하여 입사하는 ion energy와 flux 양을 컨트롤 하였고, 250 W에서 최적화된 ion energy distribution 영역이 존재한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 25 Gauss 정도의 electro-magnetic field를 이용하여 Ar의 ion energy를 10 eV 이하로 낮추어 damage를 최소화함으로써 효과적으로 그래핀을 cleaning 할 수 있었다. Cleaning과정에서 ion bombardment에 의해 발생한 damage는 $250^{\circ}C$에서 6시간 동안 annealing 공정을 거치면서 회복되는 것을 Raman spectroscopy의 D peak ($1335cm{\cdot}^1$) / G peak ($1572cm{\cdot}^1$) ratio 로 확인할 수 있었고, PMMA residue의 cleaning 여부는 G peak ($1580cm{\cdot}^1$)의 blue shift와 2D peak ($2670cm{\cdot}^1$)의 red shift를 통해 확인하였다. 그리고 AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy)을 이용하여 cleaning 공정과정에서 RMS roughness가 4.99 nm에서 2.01 nm로 감소하는 것을 관찰하였다. 마지막으로, PMMA residue의 cleaning 정도를 정량적으로 분석하기 위해 XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy)를 이용하여 sp2 C-C bonding이 74.96%에서 87.66%로 증가함을 확인을 할 수 있었다.

The antihyperlipidemic effect of alginate-free residue from sea tangle in hyperlipidemic rats

  • Background: In order to assess the high value-added use of the alginate-free residue of sea tangle, an animal study was performed to evaluate the functional activities and key compounds present. In the animal study, sea tangle and the alginate-free residue demonstrated good anti-hyperlipidemic and anti-arteriosclerotic abilities. Results: The functional compounds in the alginate-free residue of the sea tangle were effectively extracted by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE). The optimum extraction temperature and pressure were 40 ℃ and 6500 psi (M1) in the SFE, a better method in comparison to the conditions of 70 ℃ and 4500 psi (M2), respectively. The anti-atherosclerotic effects of the alginate-free residue of sea tangle (M1, M2) were investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats treated with poloxamer 407, Triton WR 1339, corn oil, and a high-fat diet. The M1 fraction reduced the serum lipid levels with greater efficacy than the M2 fraction. In the hyperlipidemic rats, treatment with M1 decreased the serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels when compared to the levels in normal rats. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that the alginate-free residue of sea tangle reduces serum TC, TG, and LDL-C. These results suggest that the alginate-free residue of sea tangle contains physiologically active components, such as fucosterol, that may exert beneficial effects in the prevention of atherosclerosis.

2D 확산기를 이용한 전자파 잔향실 내의 필드 분포 특성 (Field Distribution Characteristics of a Reverberation Chamber with 2D Diffuser Sets)

  • Schroeder 방식의 1 Dimension QRD(quadratic Residue Diffuser)를 사용하여 잔향실 내부에서의 필드 균일성이 향상됨을 밝힌 연구는 이미 수 차례 발표된 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 $2.3\;\cal{GHz}\~3\;\cal{GHz}$대역에서, 전자파 잔향실의 전자기장 특성 및 필드의 균일도 향상을 위해 잔향실 내에 Schroeder 방식의 CRD(Cubical Residue Diffuser)가 설계 및 적용되었고 필드 분포 해석을 위해 FDTD(Finite-Difffrence Time-Domain) 방법의 수치해석이 이루어졌다. 잔향실 내부의 확산기는 cubical residue algorithm과 2D 배열을 사용함으로써 더욱더 random한 형태를 이루었으며 결과적으로 CRD를 사용함으로써 잔향실 내에서의 편파 특성, 표준 편차 및 tolerance 등의 성능이 좋아지는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 2D CRD의 경우, 전력 효율도 높아짐을 알 수 있었다.
