For thin panel welded structure, the various welding distortions were found due to the low resistance against welding deformation. Especially, buckling distortion induced in the thin panel welded structure produce severe problems related to cost in production stage and safety in service life. So, many researches including mechanical and thermal tensioning method for preventing the occurrence of buckling distortion in the production stage have been performed. The purpose of this study is to identify the behavior of longitudinal residual stress at the SA butt weldment with thin plate of 6mm thickness under tension load by 3 dimensional FEA. For it, mesh design for 3D FEA was constructed with 20 nodes brick element for butt weldment and 8 nodes shell element for base metal. According to FEA results, the longitudinal compressive strain inducing tensile residual stress at the butt weldment decreased. It was because the compressive thermal strain in way of weldment was reduced by tension load. The control effect of residual stress increased with an increase in tension load. So, if the amount of tension load applied to the weldment exceeds 1.5 times of longitudinal shrinkage force, the amount of longitudinal residual stress decreased below the critical value inducing the buckling distortion at the SA butt weldment. Its validity was verified by experiment.

Steel bridges, which have been damaged by load and corrosion, need repair or strengthening. That is a cause of decreasing the durability of structure. In order to solve these problems, welding repair and strengthening methods can be considered. In general, cutting and welding procedure is carried out during the repair welding. Therefore, the investigation of the behavior of residual stress and deformation generated by cutting and welding is very important for safety of structure. Residual stress and deformation produced by gas cutting and arc welding were analyzed using 2D and 3D thermal elasto-plastic FEM. According to the results, the magnitude of temperature was analyzed by 2D-FEM is smaller than that was analyzed using the 3D-FEM at the start and end edge of flange. And the magnitude and distribution of residual stress of perpendicular direction of the cutting line and welding line was analyzed by the 2D-FEM was similar to that was analyzed by 3D-FEM. Therefore, it is possible to predict cutting and welding residual stress by 2D and 3D FEM.

Mechanical structures with power sources experience repeated force produced by motors. In result, the life of the pipes reduces and ultimately, the pipes collapse. Such pipes are formed into several shapes and particularly, the U-shape pipe is damaged frequently. In most cases, the U-shape pipe is made with a straight pipe by complicated bending work. During this work process, plastic deformation of the pipe produces residual stress in the pipe. This residual stress significantly affects the fracture behavior of the pipe and induces the change of the stress ratio (min. stress/Max. stress = R). For this reason, residual stress has to be evaluated. In this paper, the residual stress of a U-shaped pipe was evaluated by FEM analysis. In addition, fatigue tests of the U-shaped pipe were performed by using a uniaxial fatigue testing machine. The results of the fatigue test were modified with the results of FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis for residual stress. The modified fatigue test results of the U-shaped pipe were compared with those of a straight pipe.
The experimental study has been performed through residual stress using the Ti6Al4V, investigate the effect of laser shock peening on laser welding process residual stress of Ti6Al4V welds in a reduce safety weld zone. This research evaluated the effects of shock waves from laser shock peening with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser on Ti6Al4V welding specimens, through the analysis of the residual stress of the specimens. The residual stress could be formed by the depth of 1 mm if the proposed method of reducing the residual stress is performed in the optimal condition. The welded structures and products during the production process increase the mechanical property of repeated stress, which could be expected to extend the fatigue life of the structure.
Current industrial practices and approaches are simplified and do not describe the actual behavior of plated elements of offshore topside structures for safety design due to fires. Therefore, it is better to make up for the defective methods with integrated fire safety design methods based on fire resistance characteristics such as residual strength capacity. This study numerically investigates the residual strength of steel stiffened panels exposed to hydrocarbon jet fire. A series of nonlinear finite element analyses (FEAs) were carried out with varying probabilistic selected exposures in terms of the jet fire location, side, area, and duration. These were used to assess the effects of exposed fire on the residual strength of a steel stiffened panel on a ship-shaped offshore structure. A probabilistic approach with a feasible fire location was used to determine credible fire scenarios in association with thermal structural responses. Heat transfer analysis was performed to obtain the steel temperature, and then the residual strength was obtained for the credible fire scenarios under compressive axial loading using nonlinear FEA code. The results were used to derive closed-form expressions to predict the residual strength of steel stiffened panels with various exposure to jet fire characteristics. The results could be used to assess the sustainability of structures at risk of exposure to fire accidents in offshore installations.
Recently, as the industrial structure tends to become large, the thickness of structural plate becomes thicker. Therefore, the thicker the plate of welded structure is, the larger the shape of welded joint. The effect of large heat input makes large heat affected zone(HAZ). These bring to complict welding residual stress and to weaken material, which may cause extremely harm to the safety of structures. Nevertheless, welding is design is regulated by the KS, JIS or standard in the resister of shipping such as KR, ABS or LR. However, these rules are based on rather experimental than theoretical. In this study, the computer program of heat conduction, considering un-steady state and quasi-steady state, is developed for optimizing(minimizing) a shape of welded joint. The characteristics of heat on the welded joints with various shapes are clarified by the results of the analyses.
Aluminum nitride(AIN) thin films were deposited on SiO$_2$/Si substrates by reactive sputtering for the application of SAW devices. The major deposition parameters such as pressure, nitrogen fraction, rf power, substrate distance were changed to find out the optimal condition for c-axis oriented thin films on an amorphous substrate. The effects of deposition parameters on the crystal structure, residual stress, and growth morphology of thin films were characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM. The FWHM of (002) rocking curve of the films deposited at the proper condition was lower than 2.2$^{\circ}$(C=0.93$^{\circ}$). Cross-sectional TEM showed that self-aligned structure was developed just after slightly random growth at the initial stage. The frequency characteristics of test device fabricated from AIN thin films confirmed their piezoelectric property and applicability for SAW devices.

In this paper the sway-control problem of a container crane is investigated. The control loop is divided into two stages. The first stage is a modified time optimal control for trolley traversing. The velocity command for trolley traversing consists of three components ; a reference velocity and two feedback signals for compensating the deviations of trolley and sway angle from their desired trajectories. For trolley's exact positioning the trolley dynamics is identified via an error equation identifier structure. The second stage is a nonlinear residual sway control that starts at the end of first stage. The control design for the second stage is investigated from the perspective of controling an underactuated system, and the control law combines the feedback linearization and variable structure control.
The image-to-image translation is one of the deep learning applications using image data. In this paper, we aim at improving the performance of object transfiguration which transforms a specific object in an image into another specific object. For object transfiguration, it is required to transform only the target object and maintain background images. In the existing results, however, it is observed that other parts in the image are also transformed. In this paper, we have focused on the structure of artificial neural networks that are frequently used in the existing methods and have improved the performance by adding constraints to the exiting structure. We also propose the advanced structure that combines the existing structures to maintain their advantages and complement their drawbacks. The effectiveness of the proposed methods are shown in experimental results.
The effects of phosphorus and boron additions and isothermal holding time on the residual magnesium and sulfur content, and on the resultant graphite structure of cast irons were investigated. The effective recovery ratio of magnesium showed that adding phosphorus to the melt retarded the fading rate of magnesium but adding boron accelerated it. However, the residual sulfur content was found to be decreased with isothermal holding time at the begining, and then to be increased again with holding time by resulfurization. The Mg-Equivalent for producing compacted vermicular graphite structure was found to be increased with the addition of phosphorus, whereas to be decreased with the addition of boron.
