  • The images of the meteorological satellite NOAA contain geometrical distortions caused by its ambiguous position, its vibration, its sensor's movement, and so on. Geometric correction of satellite images is one of the most important parts in many remote sensing as the primary processing. Ground control points (GCP's) are necessary to check the accuracy of geometric correction and used for precise geometric correction. In this paper, a method for automatically selecting the residual error is presented. Calculating the effective angle and residual errors vector using the succeeded matching GCP's, precise geometric correction using an affine transformation is applied to systematically a corrected image. And the error is decreased by an affine transformation. The above enable the geometric correction of high quality.

  • The purpose of this paper is to draw comparison between the performance of ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter and Kalman filter of a tracking module for ARPA system on board high dynamic warship. The comparison is based on the filters' capability to reduce residual error and maintain a stable transient response. The residual error is computed from the difference between the observed the predicted positions for the entire tracking period. The results indicate that the Kalman filter has a higher tracking accuracy compared to the optimal ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter. However, both filters have a similar transient response.

  • The purpose of this paper is to determine the optimal values of the gain parameters used in the tracking module for a highly dynamic warship. The algorithm of the tracking module uses the ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter to compute accurate estimates and update the state variables, that is, positions, velocity and acceleration. The filtering coefficients ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$ are determined from set values of the damping parameter, ${\xi}$. Optimization is achieved by plotting a range of the damping parameter ${\xi}$ against the corresponding residual error and then selecting the best value of ${\xi}$ with the minimum residual error. Optimal values of the smoothing coefficients are subsequently computed from the selected damping parameter, ${\xi}$.

  • Hybrid decision decoding for the extended hamming codes without retransmission, which is a combination of hard and soft decision decoding, is proposed and its performance is analyzed in this paper. As results, hybsrid decision decoding shows a little bit higher residual bit error rate than soft decision decoding. However, as the size of the extended hamming code increases, the difference of th enumber of comparisons increases further. In addition, hybrid decision decoding shows almost same residual bit error rate as hard decision decoding with retrassmission and shows much lower residual bit error rate than hard decision decoding without retransmission.

  • We propose a navigation algorithm using image-based visual servoing utilizing a fixed camera. We define the mobile robot navigation problem as an unconstrained optimization problem to minimize the image error between the goal position and the position of a mobile robot. The residual function which is the image error between the position of a mobile robot and the goal position is generally large for this navigation problem. So, this navigation problem can be considered as the nonlinear least squares problem for the large residual case. For large residual, we propose a method to find the second-order term using the secant approximation method. The performance was evaluated using the simulation.

  • Lots of research works have been done to improve the accuracy of the hole drilling method to measure residual stress by many investigators. In this study, first, size effect of specimen was analyzed based on the solution of hole in a strip under tension. If the ratio of hole diameter tothe strip width is less than 0.2, the stress distribution around hold may be given from the solution of hole in an infinite plate. Second, the residual stress above $0.6{\sigma}_y$(yield stress) may be measured less than the actual stress by 10-15 percent. Third, eccentricity of hole relative to the rosette center effects on the accuracy of residual stress measurements by 10 percent. The error due to eccentricity of hole can be corrected by the iteration method or the direct method.

  • An analysis using FEM simulation was conducted to predict residual stresses and birefringence in simple compressed cylindrical glass as a preliminary part of the optimum design determination of optical lenses. The FEM simulation with the Maxwell viscoelastic constitutive model was used to predict thermal induced residual stresses and birefringence during the compression test considering stress relaxation. Also the linear photoelastic theory was introduced to calculate birefringence from the residual stress state. The error of simulation results between experimental results in the birefringence value at the center of glass specimen is $4.2\%$, and the error in the maximum radius of deformed glass specimen is $1.2\%$. The simulation results were in good agreement with deformation and birefringence distribution in the existing experimental result.

  • The performance of spatial downscaling models depends on the quality of input coarse scale products. Thus, the impact of intrinsic errors contained in coarse scale satellite products on predictive performance should be properly assessed in parallel with the development of advanced downscaling models. Such an assessment is the main objective of this paper. Based on a synthetic satellite precipitation product at a coarse scale generated from rain gauge data, two synthetic precipitation products with different amounts of error were generated and used as inputs for spatial downscaling. Geographically weighted regression, which typically has very high explanatory power, was selected as the trend component estimation model, and area-to-point kriging was applied for residual correction in the spatial downscaling experiment. When errors in the coarse scale product were greater, the trend component estimates were much more susceptible to errors. But residual correction could reduce the impact of the erroneous trend component estimates, which improved the predictive performance. However, residual correction could not improve predictive performance significantly when substantial errors were contained in the input coarse scale data. Therefore, the development of advanced spatial downscaling models should be focused on correction of intrinsic errors in the coarse scale satellite product if a priori error information could be available, rather than on the application of advanced regression models with high explanatory power.

  • In this paper, we will discuss the absolute angular error control mode for the Gun/Turret driving system. The Gun/Turret driving controller receives absolute angular error calculated from the fire control system (FCS). Thus, the Gun/Turret driving controller is subjected to step command to cause residual vibration and system unstable. In order to reduce residual vibration and to ensure the system stability, we propose an error motion profile method with two types of trapezoidal and S-Curve. The validity of the proposed error motion profile method is confirmed via simulation by observing that the resulting position error, driving power, and power density satisfied the control performance.
