In this study, thirteen villages in Chonnam province were selected as case study sites and the spatial distribution of the facilities in the villages was examined to provide basic information fur the establishment of rural plans. According to the questionnaire survey, various problem such as environmental pollution, position, scene, management etc. was brought owing to cattle shed, and dissension was more or less seen by scale of facilities, management of facilities and waste, regional factor(stock farming management condition, life style and attitude of inhabitants) and topographical factor (height, position physical aspect of a mountain, distance with water resources etc.) etc.. The facilities could be classified into 6 types based on the their spatial locations: 1) Type 1, facilities located at the waterside; 2) Type 2, facilities located at the entrance of village; 3) Type 3 facilities, scattered in the residential area: 4) Type 4 facilities, collectivized in village; 5) Type 5 facilities, adjoining village; and 6) Type 6 facilities, scattered irregularly inside and outside of village. Based on the classification, possible implementations for the reduction of environmental impacts were suggested. The results of this study could be used as an example of study on the distribution, classification, and rearrangement of environment-impacting facilities in rural areas for improvement of their roles in providing amenity resources.
Recent opening of the era of local government and management randers study tasks concerning the improvement of the housing conditions by improving the problems in the residential conditions of the cheju Island region so as to help improve the life qualities of this legion make the area as an international resort place, and thus develop the indentify in the heat of the people in this region. The suggestions based on the study for the improvement of housing environment are summarized as follows: (1) To improve the collective housing. housing construction plan shall b made in harmony with the skylines of the Hanra mountain alongside the East-West rides across the long diameter of the oval shape of the Island, which includes 1) the construction of housing complex in harmony with and taking advantage of the natural scene of the area. and 2) the construction of variable housing readjustable in accordance with each family structure of variable housings for multi-families, which are believed not to provide quality housing conditions. Shall be entrained. (2) Encouraging the construction of detached house : 1) construction of housings in which three generations can reside together according to the traditional family structure in the region. 2) construction of the pastoral housings. 3) construction of tenement housings partitioned for each two families. 4) development of sliver town in the rural area. The principal measure of housing demand is income and the preferences expressed by households through their respective indifference curves. In this context, housing essentially becomes a derived demand, i.e., the household consumes land and a location (or distance-in time and money costs), according to its relative preferences for space, accessibility, and all other nonhousing goods. This paper attempts to deal with both aspects of housing (apartment) demand and household mobility in the Seoul Metropolitan Areas. Housing services will be measured using hedonic regression technique. From observations on the market prices of dwelling units and on the underlying characteristics of housing, one can estimte the relationships between the two empirically. In predicting the probability of the future moves into new towns in the Seoul Metropolitan areas, the best predictors of the future moves into new best predictors are found to be the degree of satisfaction not only with the current residence as a whole, but with some of the major amenities, accessibility and child education. The reasons for moving into new towns are diverse depending on the households' current situation; the most frequently cited is "improvement of housing conditions," followed by "improvement of living environment," "asset improvement" and "home ownership". It appears that people move houses because of a dissatisfaction with their current housing status, relative their income or needs, or a desire to improve their housing and neighborhood amenities, or both. On the other hand, it is clear that the development of new towns in the Seoul Metropolitan Areas should be based on the analysis of housing demand and the pattern of household mobility in Seoul housing market.sehold mobility in Seoul housing market.

A new urban paradigm that moves from a vehicle-centric to pedestrian-centric culture should be considered to improve the quality of the pedestrian environments for women, children, senior citizens, and disabled persons as well as to promote community unification by providing general movement rights to everyone. This study was implemented to provide decent alternatives to improve street spaces. The street spaces around the Commercial and Residential Area No.1 located in the Administrative-Centered City, Sejong Special Autonomic City, were selected to analyze and define the status of the walkways and the street spaces. Satellite imagery and numerical maps were used to collect geographic data. Practical and actual surveys for the selected sites were performed to analyze the street status and the pedestrian status. Based on the all collected data, analysis results, and literature reviews, the questionnaire was made, and 315 inquiries qualified for analysis. The physical status of all four study sites was the highest level, Grade A, and green open spaces were relatively sufficient. As a result, the factors obtained from the factor analysis have an impact on the satisfaction of the pedestrian streets in the commercial area. The factors are as followed Design > Convenience > Roadside trees and rest areas > Safety > Safety protective facilities > Transportation and information facilities > Continuity > Basic state of road surfaces > Comfortability, and in the residential area: Transportation and information facilities > Basic state of road surfaces > Comfort > Convenience > Continuity > Design > Illumination and crime prevention facilities > Safety > Roadside trees and rest areas.
It is usual to prioritize the blocks to rearrange residential environment by the responsible officer's intuition or a few specialist's experienced knowledge. The aim of this research was to evaluate rebuilding priority in the context of spatially weighted framework integrating resident's view. The spatial weighting for the variables related to evaluation of dwelling environment was derived from AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) approach through the analysis of resident's view. An empirical study for a case study site has been conducted to confirm the validity for the spatial weighting. The spatial weighting has frequently influenced in changing the rebuilding priority and was identified as the important predictor for the improvement sites of dwelling environment. The spatially weighted analysis made it possible to identify area-wide patterns of rebuilding priority area subject to many different type of thematic variables, which cannot be acquired by traditional field sampling. The spatially weighting derived by integrating various formats of spatial data into a comprehensive GIS database in particular, was ideally suited to displaying the objective distribution patterns for rebuilding priority. The result of this study would play a crucial role in dealing with public complaints for rebuilding priority since it could provide objective evidences in accordance with spatial weighting.

This study examined the environment and landscape aspects of rural villages, which are based on agriculture, to regenerate a disappearing rural village. The lifestyle and living conditions in this area were examined and the field survey of this area was carried out. The main negative factors at the rural landscape and living environment, such as rural households garbage, compost piles, and farming wastes, were found. An improvement plan of the landscape in this area was then determined. The disposal conditions according to the garbage types were analyzed through a survey with the residents directly. Through this survey, the current negative factors in landscape were checked and various improvement methods were assessed. Based on this, an institutional framework about landscape improvement of a village was developed, and a fundamental resource that can improve the environment of rural communities by this system is suggested.

The objective of this study is the estimate of CO2 emissions by the energy consumption of functional technology introduced by classifying energy use in households according to functions as well as energy resources. This study also intends to provide the practical basis data in order to establish specific alternatives for GHG mitigation in residential sector with examining the cause analysis affecting CO2 emission increases from 1995 to 2007. The results of this study show a 6.6% increase in the total CO2 from 60,636 thousand tons in 1995 to 64,611 thousand tons in 2007 by using energy in residential sector. Heating is the greatest CO2 emission sector by use, followed electric appliances, cooking, lighting and cooling. Heating sector shows 56.6% reductions from 71.5% in 1995 and as do cooling and electric home appliances, with a 2.4% increase from 0.6% and a 21.8% increase from 14.2% respectively. To analyze factors resulted in CO2 emissions in residential sector, the relevant indicator change rate from 2005 to 2007 was examined. The results find that population, the number of household, housing areas, family patterns, and family income resulted in the CO2 emissions increase in residential sector from 1995 to 2007. On the other hand, carbon intensity and energy intensity contribute to CO2 reduction in residential sector with -2% and -38.7% respectively because of the energy conversion and the improvement of energy efficiency in electronic appliances. This study can be used as a reference when taken account of the reality and considered the introduction of highly effective measures to increase the possibility of mitigation potential in residential sector hereafter.

The objective of this study is to propose a community facility design for the revitalization of the piloti spaces of deteriorated low-rise residential blocks. For this study, the precedent research and institutional limitations are examined. In addition, this study selected and analyzed a deteriorated low-rise residential block utilizing pilotis. Generally, in this type of residence, 8 to 10 generations live together in multi-family houses and row houses, so it is a type of housing that lacks both public space and parking places. Therefore, we attempted to improve the situation of the communities by making use of the space between the pillars and walls without infringing on the parking places. In addition, we took into consideration the design and arrangement of the piloti by evaluating the inconveniences and needs of the residents through interviews. Specifically, various modules were planned and used to transform the spaces between the pillars of the pillar type piloti structure. This study examined the possibilities offered by various materials and modules, and studied the diverse possibilities that can be offered by changing the modules.

This study attempts to specifically analyze green volume and scenery characteristics by classifying the streets in Seoul and suggest improvements accordingly. The subject streets for research were limited to those that have high occupancy ratio and are wide enough to have a big potential in improving green volume. In terms of green volume and scenery according to the types of streets, Platanus occidentalis and Ginkgo biloba were most common regardless of the street type, and the green ratio was 51.6% in residential areas, 50.4% in commercial areas, and 43.7% in business areas. Apart from the residential area, there was almost no green areas, and the ratio of green coverage was 71.0% in business areas, 64.0% in green areas, 37.3% in residential areas, and 36.2% in commercial areas, while the green volume coefficient was 1.9m3/m2 on average. Based on the study results, it was set as a goal to provide the residential areas with a green community space and flowering trees throughout the year for scenery, and commercial areas with flowering trees and maples to emphasize the stores' image while not interfering with service and walking. For business areas, the goals were to improve green ratio and create streets that suit the urban image, and to set up spaces to provide habitat for wild animals with multi-layer planting and link to surrounding forests.

More and more domestic skyscrapers have been rapidly constructed to get enough living space for people living in overcrowded cities. The purpose of skyscrapers is to provide citizens with useful facilities and to establish landmarks and also national and regional symbols. Previous studies have been conducted which focused on the structure, materials, plans, maintenance, and relevant information regarding skyscrapers. Skyscrapers, however, are different from other smaller buildings regarding the residential environment as well as in other ways. Recently, several problems have been raised in that the indiscreetness of current skyscrapers cannot guarantee residents a high quality living environment, and they might contain risks unless criteria are put forward to ensure that the design and facilities provide for this aim. It is judged that a set of performance criteria for the residential environment to ensurethe residents' quality of life could solve this problem. This study therefore aims to suggest a method for the improvement of the residential environment of skyscrapers by establishing residential environment evaluation factors. In conclusion, this study calculates the weight of each evaluation factor using AHP (an analytic hierarchy process) and suggests evaluating criteria. It is expected that this study could be used to propose guidelines for residents at the design and planning stage of building a skyscraper.
