Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the educational needs for practicing neonatal intensive care among Korean nursing students. Methods: An explorative, sequential, mixed-methods design was used. Qualitative content analysis was conducted of in-depth interviews of six nursing students, five clinical practice faculty members, and five nurses in the neonatal intensive care unit. The results of a survey of 174 nursing students were analyzed quantitatively. Results: Nursing students, clinical practice faculty members, and nurses wanted opportunities for direct nursing practice and education in school during neonatal intensive care practice. In terms of specific educational content, nursing students expressed the highest observation-related educational needs for communication with medical team members, and they expressed the highest practice-related educational needs for operating medical equipment used for neonatal intensive care. The nursing students' needs with regard to the method of practice education were highest for orientation from the head nurses. Conclusion: Communication and operating medical equipment were found to be areas with high educational needs for practicing neonatal intensive care among Korean nursing students. Further research is needed to develop an educational framework and setting for practicing neonatal intensive care that would meet their needs.
The research literature presents that Total Quality Management (TQM) has been successfully embraced by firms for strategic and operational management in the last decades. However few studios analyze the role of TQM practices in the R&D environment. The objective of this study is to evaluate TQM practices implemented in manufacturing-based R&D organizations with respect to R&D performance. Our research model is primarily based on Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence framework, including three moderating variables (industry type, organization size, quality management system certification), to propose hypotheses on the relationships between leadership practice, management practice and R&D performance. Results of canonical correlation analysis using data from 130 R&D organizations show that in aggregate leadership practice is positively related to management practice which is, in turn, positively related to R&D performance. These relationships are, however, affected by the moderating variables. Our results imply that TQM practices can be strategically adopted in the R&D organization.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors influencing students' active practice in clinical nursing education and to find ways to improve them. Methods: In this study, the factors affecting students' practice in nursing clinical practice were reviewed and their opinions were discussed. Results: A limited clinical practice environment, lack of a role model of leading and independent nurse interferes with the active practice of nursing students and negatively affects the image of nurses. On the other hand, semantics that links practice to students'life supports active practice. Conclusion: Clinical practicum educators should actively carry out the role of introducing students to rational of their practice, and arrange meetings with nurses and students who carry out nursing care independently with leadership. In addition, the clinical nursing education should include courses that allow students to discuss the various issues they have in the nursing practice.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine rate of breastfeeding practice at 3 months and to examine predictors for breastfeeding practice. Method: Study subjects were 114 mothers who gave birth at one hospital in Busan area. Data regarding breastfeeding practice and potentially related factors to breastfeeding were collected through a self-administered questionaire at 1 weeks and a telephone survey at 3 months. Logistic regression was used to identifiy significant the predictors on breastfeeding practice. Result: Rate of breastfeeding practice was 46.5% at three months of postpartum. The significant predictors for performing breastfeeding were lower the experience of breastfeeding trouble problem(OR=.88 compared with breastfeeding women, 95% CI; 78-.99), higher first breastfeeding satisfaction (OR=1.81 compared with non-breastfeeding women, 95% CI; 1.08-3.32), higher breastfeeding confidence(OR=1.84 compared with non-breastfeeding women, 95% CI; 1.08-3.32). Conclusion: The findings suggest the necessity of support program for mothers during the positive postpartum period to provide correct information about breastfeeding knowledge and attitude and to teach problem-solving skills for any breastfeeding problems for highere rate of breastfeeding practice
Objectives : This research identified the frequency and satisfaction level of the observation and performance practice during the clinical practice process conducted by dental hygiene students. With the goal of providing base data required for the development and operation of increasingly effective clinical practice program and for the improvement of the existing clinical practice training. Methods : The subjects in this study were 278 students of a university located in Masan. Survey comprised of 49 questions in 10 clinical practice domains was conducted. Results : 1. As for the observation practice by each grade, there was significant difference in oral radiology, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed for each grade, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level for each grade, there was significant difference in basic medical service(p<0.05). 2. As for the observation practice by each clinical practice institution, there was significant difference in oral medicine, oral radiology, preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the performance practice executed by each practice institution, there was significant difference in basic medical service, oral medicine, oral radiology, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). As for the satisfaction level by each practice institution, there was significant difference in the oral radiology, preventive dentistry, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery(p<0.05). Conclusions : As for the satisfaction level for the clinical practice, basic medical service is the crimary care clinical practice which is most basic and that is executed the most in a dental clinic. Satisfaction level was the highest in the domains where there were extensive observation and practice frequency. By conducting observation and practice frequency in the clinical practice process by each clinical practice domain in a broad and diverse manner, it would be possible to improve the ability of the clinical practice trainees who improve their clinical work execution capability and satisfaction level on the clinical practice.
This study measures the subjectivity of nursing students' experience in community fields through community nursing practice. The purpose of this study is as follows: 1) to find out typologies based on opinions and attitudes toward community nursing practice. 2) to describe the characteristic of each type. 3) to provide alternative strategies for solving community nursing practice problems. A Q-Methodological method was used for that purpose. As a research method, Q-statements were collected through indepth interviews and review of the current literature. For this study 34 Q-statements were selected. 24 nursing students were subjects for the research. The 24 nursing students sorted 34 Q-statements using the principle of Forced Normal Distribution. The principle of Forced Normal Distribution, which has nine scales to measure individual opinions, was called, a Q- Factor Analysis by using a PC Quanl Program to supply the material. According to the results of this study, there were three categories of opinion concerning community nursing practice. The first type is the realistic problem-oriented approach: the second type is the self-responsibility or pursuit of life meaning approach: the third type is the group approach for problem solving. As a result, we need to develop and revise a more realistic way of community nursing practice for nursing students. Finally, the result of this study will provide to the educational program alternative strategies for community nursing practice for nursing students.
The purpose of this study to analyze the effect of Mindfulness on the Therapeutic Relationship using System Dynamics. The biggest factor in psychotherapy's treatment outcome is the Therapeutic Relationship including the quality of the therapist (empathy, therapeutic presence) and therapy alliance. Mindfulness practice can facilitate the therapeutic relationship. In order to analyze the therapeutic relationship, I measure FFMQ(Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire), Empathy, Therapeutic presence and Therapy alliance. Participants consist of 55 mental health professionals (doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor, social worker). The result of the study will be explained. First, with the causal loop diagram research, I analyze how mindfulness can influence the quality of therapist and therapy alliance. The result of literature research indicate that mindfulness increase therapist's empathy, congruence, therapeutic presence, flow, therapy alliance. And then mindfulness reinforces the ability of therapeutic relationship. Secondly, through the real data research and simulation analysis, mindfulness practicing period (year and hour a day) of therapist is studied. The result of the therapist experiencing mindfulness practice period is over 5 years and the daily hours of practice is 2 - 2.5 hours in order to enhance the therapeutic relationship. After reviewing the result of the research it is important to understand the practicing period and daily practice of mindfulness. With daily practice and time, the level of mindfulness will increase and influence positively the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify education, attitudes and beliefs, interest and perceived role, self-efficacy and barriers to physical therapists' implementation of evidence-based practice for people with stroke. Methods : The participants were 120 physical therapists providing services to people with stroke in Gwang-ju. The questionnaire contained items to evaluate practitioner and organizational characteristics and perceptions of research considered to influence evidence-based practice. The prevalence of practitioner and organizational factors was estimated using percentages. Logistic regression was used to examine relationships between sociodemographic and practice characteristics and each practitioner factor. Results : 40% of respondents had learned the foundations of EBP in their academic preparation or received training in searching or appraising research literature. 88.3% agreed that research findings are useful. Self-efficacy ratings were 45%. Conclusion : Lack of education, negative perceptions about research and physical therapists' role in evidencebased practice, and low self-efficacy to perform EBP activities represent barriers to implementating EBP for people with stroke that can be addressed through continuing education.
This study was conducted to analyze the stand structure and growth characteristics along different elevations of Pinus koraiensis natural forests located at mean elevation 1,300 m (site1), 900 m (site2) and 600 m (site3) on Mt. Seorak. Mean DBH and height of P. koraiensis were 25.4 cm and 12.3 m in site1, while that of site2 and 3 were over 40 cm and 20 m, respectively. For this reason, there was 5 times difference of single tree volume between site1 and other sites(p<0.05). Mean ringwidth increment of P. koraiensis was 1.1 mm/yr in site1, 1.5 mm/yr in site2 and 2.6 mm/yr in site3. However, recent growth of ringwidth has increased by 8.6% in site1, whereas site2 and 3 have fallen by approximately 50% over the last 10 years. These results signify that the growth and distribution of natural P. koraiensis are effected by different climatic environment along elevations.
This study aims to review legal problems of similar medical practice and suggest methods of improvement. Similar medical practice refers to all medical practices conducted in the state that human qualification is not fulfilled. It may cause serious damages on health and lives of national people. Currently, similar medical practices are recognized as unlicensed medical practices and prohibited based on the Medical law and additionally punished by then special law in Korea. However, the current Medical Law does not provide clear and accurate concept of medical practices so that it is difficult to regulate similar medical practices. The issue of complementary and alternative therapy related to similar medical practices is also in special state different from other countries. In addition, since similar medical practices lack of evidences in terms of safety, the dangerousness of accidents is high and it may affect badly on health of national people and health care policies. Methods of improvement in order to resolve problems regarding similar medical practices are: first, concept and scope of medical practice should be clear, accurate and concrete. Second, complementary and alternative therapies related to similar medical practices need to be strictly examined and the supervisory right should be given to doctors should be given even though a part of it is allowed. Third, research institutes specialized in the field should be established for scientific examination of complementary and alternative therapy and objective research results should be open to the public. Finally, since damage cases caused by similar medical practices by non-medical personnel, national management and supervision for similar medical practices should be reinforced.
