  • We introduce a new method to transform a knot diagram into a diagram of an unknot using a polynomial representation of the knot. Here the unknotting sequence of a knot diagram with least number of crossing changes can be realized by a family of polynomial maps. The number of singular knots in this family is defined to be the singularity index of the diagram. We show that the singularity index of a diagram is always less than or equal to its unknotting number.

  • In this paper, a 16${\times}$16-bit Multiplier and Accumulator (MAC) is designed using a Redundant Binary Adder (RBA) circuit so that it can make a fast addition of the Redundant Binary Partial Products (RB_PP's) by using Wallace-tree structure. Because a RBA adds two RB numbers, it acts as a 4-2 compressor, which reduces four inputs to two output signals. We propose a method to convert the Redundant Binary (RB) representation into the 2's complement binary representation. Instead of using the conventional full adders, a more efficient RB number to binary number converter can be designed with new conversion method.

  • Let K be a number field and fix a prime number $p$. For any set S of primes of K, we here say that an elliptic curve E over K has S-reduction if E has bad reduction only at the primes of S. There exists the set $B_{K,p}$ of primes of K satisfying that any elliptic curve over K with $B_{K,p}$-reduction has no $p$-torsion points under certain conditions. The first aim of this paper is to construct elliptic curves over K with $B_{K,p}$-reduction and a $p$-torsion point. The action of the absolute Galois group on the $p$-torsion subgroup of E gives its associated Galois representation $\bar{\rho}_{E,p}$ modulo $p$. We also study the irreducibility and surjectivity of $\bar{\rho}_{E,p}$ for semistable elliptic curves with $B_{K,p}$-reduction.

  • Fuzzy Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is a mathematical tool for the effective representation of imprecise and vague knowledge. However, with a large number of formal concepts from a fuzzy context, the task of knowledge representation becomes complex. Hence, knowledge reduction is an important issue in FCA with a fuzzy setting. The purpose of this current study is to address this issue by proposing a method that computes the corresponding crisp order for the fuzzy relation in a given fuzzy formal context. The obtained formal context using the proposed method provides a fewer number of concepts when compared to original fuzzy context. The resultant lattice structure is a reduced form of its corresponding fuzzy concept lattice and preserves the specialized and generalized concepts, as well as stability. This study also shows a step-by-step demonstration of the proposed method and its application.

  • An algorithm for representing the cubic spline interpolation of differentiable functions by a fuzzy system is presented in this paper. The cubic B-spline functions which form a basis for the interpolation function are used as the fuzzy sets for input fuzzification. The ordinal number of the coefficient cKL in the list of the coefficient cij's as sorted in increasing order, is taken to be the output fuzzy set number in the (k, l) th entry of the fuzzy rule table. Spike functions are used for the output fuzzy sets, with cij's as support boundaries after they are sorted. An algorithm to compute the support boundaries explicitly without solving the matrix equation involved is included, along with a few properties of the fuzzy rule matrix for the designed fuzzy system.

  • This paper introduces a new type of representation of the LSPs as a promising alternative used for transmitting the LPC parameters. Major contribution in this paper is that the vocal track information embedded on the spectral envelope can be represented in terms of the reduced number of LSF compared tn the conventional. Hence, it provides a possibility that LPC parameters could be quantized at a reduced bit rate without causing any major spectral distortion. The simulation result illustrates the capability of the proposed LSPs representation as an efficient quantization method via a proper rejection of the redundant pairs of pole and zero along the unit circle.

  • In this paper first, we find a canonical symmetrical trapezoidal(triangular) for the solution of the fuzzy linear system $A\tilde{x}=\tilde{b}$, where the elements in A and $\tilde{b}$ are crisp and arbitrary fuzzy numbers, respectively. Then, a model for fuzzy linear programming problem with fuzzy variables (FLPFV), in which, the right hand side of constraints are arbitrary numbers, and coefficients of the objective function and constraint matrix are regarded as crisp numbers, is discussed. A numerical procedure for calculating a canonical symmetrical trapezoidal representation for the solution of fuzzy linear system and the optimal solution of FLPFV, (if there exist) is proposed. Several examples illustrate these ideas.

  • In recent years, a number of successful nesting approaches have been developed by using the various heuristic algorithms, and due to their application potential several commercial CAD/CAM packages include a nesting module for solving the layout problem. Since a large portion of the complexity of the part nesting problem results from the overlapping computation, the geometric representation is one of the most important factors to reduce the complexity of the problem. The proposed part representation method can easily handle parts and raw materials with widely varying geometrical shape by using the redesigning modules. This considerably reduces the amount of processed data and consequently the run time of the computer. The aim of this research is to develop parametric macro for two-dimensional layout on the Auto-CAD system. Therefore, this research can be called "pre-nesting".

  • It is tremendously important to construct decision trees to use as a tool for knowledge representation from a given decision table. However, the usual algorithms may split the decision table based on each value, which is not efficient for numerical attributes. The methodology of this paper is to split the given decision table into binary groups as like the CART algorithm, that uses binary split to work for both categorical and numerical attributes. The difference is that it uses split for each attribute established by the directed acyclic graph in a dynamic programming fashion whereas, the CART uses binary split among all considered attributes in a greedy fashion. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of binary splits in comparison with each value splits when building the decision trees. Such effect can be studied by comparing the number of nodes, local and global misclassification rate among the constructed decision trees based on three proposed algorithms.
