  • This paper compares the two policies which are unsed in Korean electronic appliance industry. Policy I is a general warranty policy under which all of failures during warrenty period (12 months) are repaired without charge. Policy II was proposed recently by a company. Under Policy II, when the product fails until a certain times(6 months), the failed product will be replaced by the new product and all other failures from the certain time to the warrenty period (24 months) will be repaired free. We obtain the expected total warranty costs per product and necessary conditions under which the Policy II has a meaning in economic point of view without or with discount rate. Some numericla examples are considered.

  • For the restoration of construction industry, the government have offered the policy since the end of 1990. It has offered to develop the world-class technology and establish the effective production structure. In the government policy, the delivery and contracting method has improved so that construction industry could be recognized. Foreign countries have conducted the R&D and application of Innovative Contracting for improvement of facilities, reduction of LCC and innovation of contractor. Among the Innovative Contracting, 'Performance Warranty Contracting' is defined that A guarantee of the integrity of a product and of the makers responsibility for the replacement or repair of deficiencies. Performance Warranty Contracting is used for technology developments of contractor, improvement of quality, reduction of LCC, prevention of early deficiencies and reduction of owner's inspection works. This paper analyzes concept and effects of Performance Warranty Contracting and presents considerations according to the introduction.

  • Engineers are always concerned with life cycle costs for making important economic decisions through engineering action like reliability of products. Decisions during the reliability growth development of products involve trade-offs between invested costs and its returns. In order to find minimal LCC containing the reliability improvement cost, production cost, repair and replacement costs, and holding cost of spare parts for failure items we suggest in this paper relationship between development cost and sustaining cost in values of growth parameter $\beta$ of AMSAA model. This model is applied to the reliability growth program based on AMSAA model during R&D phase, the warranty activities of items and the block replacement policy for maintenance of items in avionic equipment.

  • Recently, the subject of reliability attracts a great deal of domestic and international attentions and the extensive research activities are being conducted as well. Such trend exists mainly due to the fact that the research on the subject of reliability not only contributes to the theoretical developments, but also may find a wide range of applications in practice over several fields. In particular, the research regarding the maintenance policy incorporating certain types of warranty for repairable system and its application is being performed extensively by many researchers, and their efforts seem more concentrated on developing new maintenance policies which minimize the expected operating cost incurred for replacement and repair of the system, while keeping the system at high reliability. Effective maintenance policy may reduce the operating cost and decrease the downtime of the system during its mission period and consequently, increase the productivity of the system. In this article, the major areas of interest in the field of reliability and its historic perspectives are given briefly and the theoretical aspects in several fields of reliability including the maintenance and warranty policies is also discussed. Furthermore, the current domestic situation regarding the education and research on reliability is presented, along with the importance of reliability theory and the difficulty of training reliability personnel. Finally, the author's opinion for effective education system is proposed.

  • The periodic technical vehicle inspection is to prevent the accident through the finding and fixing the defects of the vehicle. The periodic technical vehicle inspection in Korea was studied for assessing the adequacy of the inspection frequency. The inspection frequencies of many countries including EU, USA and Japan were compared. The average mileages by the vehicle usage and type were represented. The warranty period and recommended replacement period of parts of the domestic auto makers was studied. Currently, the inspection frequency for the periodic technical vehicle inspection in Korea is appropriate. The pass-fail rate and the cost-benefit analysis for the periodic technical inspection in Korea will be needed in the decision making process for the inspection frequency.

  • In this paper, the basic behavior of the environment and the driving time as a prediction of the lifetime of the power semiconductor devices were recorded. Radiator of a power device driving time and temperature operating environment, including cumulative record by the controller of the power converter, and doing it so you can see the power semiconductor devices for the life of the structure that the size of the change in the temperature of the semiconductor chip and the number of iterations to maintenance warranty period because of a lifetime by forecasting or replacement can be made at the appropriate time that is considered.

  • The Marine Insurance Act 1906 (MIA 1906) has been a successful piece of legislation, having rarely been amended and having established, or served as an influence in the development of, the basis of marine insurance legislation in several countries. However, it has been recognised that some parts of the MIA 1906 have begun to show their antiquated nature, especially where established principles which were once thought to reflect undoubted propositions of law are now being openly criticised. Since 2006, the Law Commission and Scottish Law Commission (the 'Law Commissions') have been engaged in a major review of insurance contract law, finally leading to the Insurance Act 2015. The Insurance Act 2015 received Royal Assent on 12 February 2015, and was based primarily on the joint recommendations of the Law Commissions. The 2015 Act made substantial changes to several main areas of marine insurance law & practice: (i) the replacement of the pre-contractual duty of disclosure with a duty to make a "fair presentation of the risk"; (ii) the abolition of the "insurance warranty" under the Marine Insurance Act 1906, s.33, and provision of a new default remedy of suspension of liability until the breach is cured; (iii) partial codification of the fraudulent claims rule in insurance contract law, etc. The Act did not provide for any new statutory duty for insurers to investigate or pay claims in a timely fashion, although this may be revisited in the next Parliament. Moreover, the Law Commissions have reopened their consideration of the doctrine of insurable interest. The 2015Actmay not then signal the end of the legislative programme in this area.
