  • Sixty-eight clinical isolates of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia from inpatients of 2 university hospitals in Taegu were epidemiologically analyzed by using the minimum inhibitory concentrations of 25 antimicrobial drugs, biochemical reaction, pulsed-field gel elctropgoresis (PFGE), and PCR with enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus sequences as primer (ERIC-PCR). 1. All the strains were susceptible to minocycline. More than 57% were susceptible to sulfisomidine (Su), ciprofloxacin (Ci), Ofloploxacin (Of), nalidixic acid (Na), and chloramphenicol (Cm), and $19{\sim}35%$ to ceftazidime (Cd), trimethoprim (Tp), Ticacillin-clavulanic acid, and cefoperazone-sulbactam. Most isolates were resistant to ${\beta}$-lactam antibiotics such as ampicillin (Ap), carbenicillin (Cb), cefotaxim (Ct), cefoxitin (Cx), and aminoglycosides including gentamicin (Gm), tobramycin (Tb), amikacin (Ak). 2. All the isolates were multiply resistant of 5 to 17 drugs and showed 40 different resistance pattern types. 3. All the strains showed very similar biochemical reactions except ${\beta}$-galactosidase and nitrate reduction test. Fourteen strains selected randomly were classified 10 different pattern type by PFGE and ERIC-PCR. These two methods showed identical result. Four strains isolated from wound in 1994 showed similar MIC pattern and identical API 20NE profile, PFGE, and ERIC-PCR pattern indicating episodes of cross-infection among patients. These results indicate that PFGE or ERIC-PCR profile has comparable discriminatory power for epidemiological typing of S. maltophilia.

  • This study mathematically and scientifically investigated the aesthetic consciousness of women inherent in the costume craftworks craftworks of the Chosun Dynasty through a systematical analysis of their textile pattern composition using visual language theory. The tangent value from the horizontal and vertical ratio of the costume craftworks craftworks indicated that they had an indigenous proportion system with a relatively regular form and pattern but without an exaggerated type. There was a module based on structures in the textile patterns of the costume craftworks craftworks and the patterns were constructed by the module with the syntagms of the ratio structure. Moreover, the analysis of the pattern designs indicated that the whole form of the costume craftworks craftworks was built through a repetitive structure of feature and one of pattern units; in addition, the craftworks had the extended composition and blank space of daring patterns, an important factor to make a whole design. Therefore, our study suggested that the costume craftworks craftworks of the Chosun Dynasty was characterized by the presentation of the aesthetic style with a Geumgang ratio (an indigenous proportion system used in Korea) and could be interpreted as an art style based on the beauty of space. Moreover, it is suggested that the spirit inherent in the costume craftworks of the Chosun Dynasty (which tried to understand the whole as one and equate the whole and parts) might agree with a holistic tendency as the foundation of Korea art.

  • Accurate information on players, namely player analytics is one of the key factors in a game development environment where a scientific approach to user-oriented game analysis is in the spotlight. This study is intended to examine effects of relations between choke point types and cover pattern properties on level difficulties in FPS games. As for FPS games, interaction between players' behaviors and game levels is higher compared to other genres and choke point types as well as cover pattern properties are key factors of level design. Choke point is the main crossroad that must to pass for achieving the goal and Cover Pattern is the type of object on the level except buildings. Two elements directly or indirectly affect the level of difficulty. This study analyzed 10 types of representative FPS gameplays to classify choke point types and assigned 4 types of cover pattern properties to organize 16 target levels for the experiment. In addition, this study collected and analyzed players' 800 behavior data (video clips) from 5 repetitive plays performed by 10 players. In conclusion, analytical results obtained from the empirical study will contribute to realizing systematic game level development by providing specific information for a game level design phase. The findings are also meaningful in that they suggest efficient and effective methods of utilizing the existing academic study results for industrial applications.

  • Posture of the upper limbs in field works is known to be an important risk factor associated with CTD(Cumulative Trauma Disorders). In particular, uncomfortable posture and highly repetitive works in shipbuilding industry(for instance, sand blasting, grinding and blast painting, etc) made workers exposed to a great risk of injuries. The purpose of this paper is to analyze recruitment pattern of the muscles according to posture(joint angle displacement) during grinding. In this study, EMG signals of pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, and posterior deltoid muscle were measured and analyzed from FlexComp EMG solution. And subjective ratings of perceived exertion were made using Borg's CR-10 rating scale.

  • This study, the present study wishes to develop a model that estimates shear strength characteristics of steel fiber reinforced concrete using artifical neural network models. Neural network models, developed as mathematical models, are being widely used not only in its original purpose of pattern recognition, but also in application fields by the function's nonlinear loaming and interpolar ability Neural network has a repetitive rotation algorithm that can cyclically and repeatedly estimate system conditions and parameter ideal values, and it can be used in the modeling of the nonlinear system by nonlinear characteristic functions that construct the system.

  • A learning controller is presented for repetitive walking motion of biped robot. The learning control scheme learns the approximate inverse dynamics input of biped walking robot and uses the learned input pattern to generate an input profile of different walking motion from that learnt. In the learning controller, the PID feedback controller takes part in stabilizing the transient response of robot dynamics while the feedforward learning controller plays a role in computing the desired actuator torques for feedforward nonlinear dynamics compensation in steady state. It is shown that all the error signals in the learning control system are bounded and the robot motion trajectory converges to the desired one asymptotically. The proposed learning control scheme is ...

  • PZT thin films, which are the representative ferroelectric materials in ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM), have some serious problem such as the imprint, retention and fatigue which ferroelectric properties are degraded by repetitive polarization. BL T thin film capacitors were fabricated by plasma etching, however, the plasma etching of BLT thin film was known to be very difficult. In our previous study, the ferroelectric materials such as PZT and BLT were patterned by chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) using damascene process to top electrode/ferroelectric material/bottom electrode. It is also possible to pattern the BLT thin film capacitors by CMP, however, the CMP damage was not considered in the experiments. The properties of BLT thin films were changed by the change of polishing pressure although the removal rate was directly proportional to the polishing pressure in CMP process.

  • Intracellular recordings were obtained from Purkinje cells in rat cerebellar slices maintained in vitro. Adding tetrodotoxin to the superfusion solution produced a typical pattern of repetitive burst firing consisting of a cluster of action potentials followed by a long hyperpolarization. TTX-induced oscillatory activity was not due to modulation of membrane potential although underlying mechanisms for maintenance of oscillatory activity were influenced by membrane voltage. The mechanism of TTX-induced oscillation was not related to the presence or amplitude of $I_h$ and could still induce the oscillatory activity after blockade of $I_h$ by cesium. The result from an experiment in which QX-314 was injected intracellularly strongly suggested that TTX-induced oscillatory firing activity was due to blockade of post-synaptic $Na^{+}$ currents intrinsic to PCs.

  • The microbial community structure in Thailand soils contaminated with low and high levels of arsenic was determined by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. Band pattern analysis indicated that the bacterial community was not significantly different in the two soils. Phylogenetic analysis obtained by excising and sequencing six bands indicated that the soils were dominated by Arthrobacter koreensis and $\beta$-Proteobacteria. Two hundred and sixty-two bacterial isolates were obtained from arsenic-contaminated soils. The majority of the As-resistant isolates were Gramnegative bacteria. MIC studies indicated that all of the tested bacteria had greater resistance to arsenate than arsenite. Some strains were capable of growing in medium containing up to 1,500 mg/l arsenite and arsenate. Correlations analysis of resistance patterns of arsenite resistance indicated that the isolated bacteria could be categorized into 13 groups, with a maximum similarity value of 100%. All strains were also evaluated for resistance to eight antibiotics. The antibiotic resistance patterns divided the strains into 100 unique groups, indicating that the strains were very diverse. Isolates from each antibiotic resistance group were characterized in more detail by using the repetitive extragenic palindromic-PCR (rep-PCR) DNA fingerprinting technique with ERIC primers. The PCR products were analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis. The genetic relatedness of 100 bacterial fingerprints, determined by using the Pearson product-moment similarity coefficient, showed that the isolates could be divided into four clusters, with similarity values ranging from 5-99%. Although many isolates were genetically diverse, others were clonal in nature. Additionally, the arsenic-resistant isolates were examined for the presence of arsenic resistance (ars) genes by using PCR, and 30% of the isolates were found to carry an arsenate reductase encoded by the arsC gene.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research was twofold: to compare the short-term efficacy of once-off education versus repetitive education (RE) of patients suffering from temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and to determine whether there was any correlation amongst patient demographics, recommendation adherence degree and pain levels. Methods: A total of 848 patients with TMDs were enrolled. The control group consisted of patients who received a standard conservative treatment (STD) over at least 6 visits with education provided only during the first visit. The experimental group consisted of patients who received STD but had also been given RE (STD+RE). The RE was delivered through a standardized self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ) that was completed by the patient during each visit. Pain, which included maximum comfortable opening (MCO) of the mouth and limitation of mouth opening (LOM), was compared between the two groups. Behavior pattern and reported pain level changes in the group who used the SAQ were also analyzed. Results: The LOM was significantly improved in all of the experimental group patients (especially in females under 30 years of age, p<0.05). The MCO was significantly higher in females (p=0.029). All of the patients displayed improvements in their habits following RE, which resulted in a strong correlation with pain reduction. Adhering to the recommendations regarding questions 14 and 15 of the SAQ appeared to have the greatest effect on pain reduction. Conclusions: These results clearly demonstrate that RE is more effective than once-off education for TMD patients who are female or under 30 years of age.
