Development of the paved track is required as a low-maintenance of conventional line. The paved tracks are one of the types of the ballast reinforced tracks those are manufactured by adopting the prepacked concrete technique. The main elements of this tracks are large sleeper, low elastic pad, fastener, cement mortar, geotextile and recycled ballast. Low elastic pad is the most effective element of such tracks on the basis of stress-displacement characteristics, dynamic response and fatigue characteristics. The stiffness of the pad determine the stiffness of the track. Consequently, it is more important in case of concrete track structure such as paved track because application of low elastic pad seriously effect the durability and stability of the track. The main objective of this study is to confirm the reduction of train load, which transfer to roadbed through various pad effects. To achieve this task static, numerical analysis and real scale repeated loading test was performed while load reduction effect of low elastic pad was analyzed by using displacement, stress and strain ratio characteristics of the paved track.

The logistics industry is converging with digital technology and growing into various logistics automation systems. However, inspection and loading/unloading, which are mainly performed in logistics work, depend on human resources, and the workforce is shrinking due to the decline in the productive population due to the low birth rate and aging. Although much research is being conducted on the development of automated logistics systems to solve these problems, there is a lack of research and development on load stacking stability, which has the potential to cause significant accidents. In this study, loading boxes with various sizes and positions of the center of gravity were set up, and a method for stacking that with high stability is presented. The size of the loading box is measured using a depth camera. The loading box's weight and center of gravity are measured and estimated by a developed device with four loadcells. The measurement error is measured through various repeated experiments and is corrected using the least squares method. The robot arm performs load stacking by determining the target position so that the centers of gravity of the loading boxes with unbalanced masses with a random sequence are transported in alignment. All processes were automated, and the results were verified by experimentally confirming load stacking stability.

Fatigue phenomena usually occur in the structures such as bridges subjected to repeated loading with increasing service year. Especially, applied stresses happen to approach to design values due to rapid increase of traffic volume and vehicle weight, so it gives serious effects to the stability of bridges. Therefore, in this paper, the data for load carrying capacity of bridges obtained from field tests were analysed statistically to investigate bridge behaviour and a basic approach to estimate the impact factor was proposed after a comparison war made between field-test data and the calculated values obtained by using matrix structural analysis method.

This case study refers to turbine-generator with retrofitted turbine rotor. Vibration problem occurring after the retrofit was mainly due to high vibration from exciter side. However, repeated test run and operation during scheduled maintenance caused high vibration from generator bearing, and post-overhaul test run before turbine vibration correction caused oil whip on the bearing. This case study shows how to analyze vibration condition of high turbine generator vibration detected during the post-overhaul test run and vibration condition of offline and online data to reflect it on establishing maintenance schedule and overhaul correction procedure. Vibration data could be acquired during steady load operation or even with varying speed and load. Each data is important for machinery condition evaluation. This case study shows that the vibration data during extreme condition is the key factor in analysis, which helps to find the machinery problem.

Thin films play an important role in many technological applications including microelectronic devices, magnetic storage media, MEMS and surface coatings. It is well known that a thin film's material properties can be very different front the corresponding bulk properties and thus there has been a strong need for the development of a miniature tester to measure the mechanical properties of a thin film. Two testers are designed and set up in small size of 62 mm width, 20 mm depth and 90-120 mm height to fit in a chamber of scanning electron microscope (SEM). One tester has a homemade 0.2 N load cell and a low-priced electromagnetic actuator. The other has a commercial 5 N load cell, a $52{\mu}m$ piezoelectric actuator and some novel grips. Two types of 3.5 microns thick polysilicon specimen are tested to prove the testers' applicability. The strain is measured by the two ways. Firstly, it is measured by an ISDG system in the atmosphere far the reference. Secondly, the same test is repeated in a SEM chamber to monitor the strain as an in-situ experiment. The strain is evaluated by observing the gap change between two markers.
The objective of this paper is to investigate the statistical properties of Vickers hardness (HV) for friction welded parts in a Ni-based super alloy (Alloy718). In the case of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) parts, hardness tests were repeated for three different applied loads, 100, 200, and 300 g, with a duration time of 10 seconds. The arithmetic means of the Vickers hardness in heat affected zone (HAZ) materials were smaller than those of the base metal (BM) in all of the applied loads. The coefficient of variation (COV) for the BM and HAZ decreased by increasing the applied load. The probability distribution of the Vickers hardness followed the Weibull distribution well. The distribution of the Vickers hardness was not found to be symmetric. The shape parameter and scale parameter increased by increasing the applied load at both the BM and HAZ.

Railway wheels and axles belong to the most critical components in railway vehicles. The service conditions of railway vehicles became more severe in recent years due to the increase of speed. Therefore, a more precise evaluation of wheelset life and safety has been requested. Wheel/rail contact fatigue and thermal cracks due to braking heat are two main mechanisms of the railway wheel failure. In this paper, an evaluation procedure for the contact fatigue life of railway wheel is proposed. One of the main sources of the contact zone failure is the residual stress. The residual stress on wheel is formed during the manufacturing process which includes a heat treatment, and then is changed by contact stress developed by wheel/rail contact and thermal stress induced by braking. Also, the cyclic stress history for fatigue analysis is determined by applying finite elements analysis for the moving contact load. The objective of this paper is to estimate fatigue life by considering residual stress due to heat treatment, braking and repeated contact load, respectively.

High strength steels (HS) of dual phase and monogalvanized steel sheets (GA ; plated plane, GAB ; bare plane0 were used to investigate the fatigue strengths of four kinds of single-spot-welded joint specimen under tensile-shear repeated load. The specimen is classified as the same mating metal specimen (HS*HS, GA*GAB) and different mating metal specimen (HS*GA, HS*GAB). Some of the results are ; (1) Static tensile load of single-spot-welded joint specimens is proportional to tensile strength of metal and rigidity of mating metal sheet. (2) Fatigue life of HS*HS specimens increased about 20% longer than that of GA*GAB specimens in low cycle range. (3) In different mating metal specimens, the fatigue life of HS*GA specimens increased about 84% more that of HS*HS specimens in high cycle range.

In this paper the fretting wear of press-fitted specimens subjected to a cyclic bending load was simulated using finite element analysis and numerical method. The amount of microslip and contact variable at press-fitted and bending load condition in a press-fitted shaft was analysed by applying finite element method. With the finite element analysis result, a numerical approach was applied to predict fretting wear based on modified Archard's equation and updating the change of contact pressure caused by local wear with influence function method. The predicted wear profiles of press-fitted specimens at the contact edge were compared with the experimental results obtained by rotating bending fatigue tests. It is shown that the depth of fretting wear by repeated slip between shaft and boss reaches the maximum value at the contact edge. The initial surface profile is continuously changed by the wear at the contact edge, and then the corresponding contact variables are redistributed. The work establishes a basis for numerical simulation of fretting wear on press fits.
The automotive environment is particularly demanding on connector performance, and is characterized by large temperature changes, high humidity and corrosive atmospheres. Fretting is a contact damage process that occurs between two contact surfaces. Fretting corrosion refers to corrosion damage at the asperities of contact surfaces. This damage is induced under load and in the presence of repeated relative surface motion, as induced for example by vibration. This paper critically reviews the works published previously on fretting corrosion of electrical connectors. Various experimental approaches such as testing machines, material selection, testing environments, acceleration testing techniques and preventing methods are addressed. Future research prospects arc suggested.
