This paper presents the structural identification of an arch dam model for the damaged, repaired and strengthened conditions under different water levels. For this aim, an arch dam-reservoir-foundation model has been constructed. Ambient vibration tests have been performed on the damaged, repaired and strengthened dam models for the empty reservoir (0 cm), 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, 40 cm, 50 cm and full reservoir (60 cm) water levels to illustrate the effects of water levels on the dynamics characteristics. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition Method in the frequency domain has been used to extract the dynamic characteristics. The dynamic characteristics obtained from the damaged, repaired and strengthened dam models show that the natural frequencies and damping ratios are considerably affected from the varying water level. The maximum differences between the frequencies for the empty and full reservoir are obtained as 16%, 33%, and 25% for damaged, repaired and strengthened model respectively. Mode shapes obtained from the all models are not affected by the increasing water level. Also, after the repairing and strengthening implementations, the natural frequencies of the arch dam model increase significantly. After strengthening, between 46-92% and 43-62% recovery in the frequencies are calculated for empty and full reservoir respectively. Apparently, after strengthening implementation, the mode shapes obtained are more acceptable and distinctive compared to those for the damaged model.
Reinforced concrete beams or slabs are often strengthened or repaired using polymer modified cement concrete Stresses can develop in the structure by ambient temperature changes because thermal coefficients of the repair material and the existing concrete are typically different. Especially, shear stress often causes debonding of the interface. In this study, a rational procedure was developed where anchors can be designed in strengthened or repaired concrete members to prevent debonding at the interface. The current design procedure considers thicknesses and elastic moduli of the repair material and existing concrete, ambient temperature change, length, and beam-vs.-slab action. The procedure is also applicable to stresses developed by differential drying shrinkage.
This paper summarises the results of an experimental study to investigate the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete beams strengthened using carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate in four-point bending. The experimental parameters included are the reinforcing bar ratio ${\rho}_s$ and preload level. Four bar ratios were selected (${\rho}_s=0.13$ to 0.86%), representing the section of two longitudinal tensile reinforcements, with diameters of 8, 14, 16, and 20 mm in order to reveal the effect of bar ratio on failure load and failure mode. Eight beams that could be considered "full-scale" in size, measuring 200 mm in width, 400 mm in total height and 2300 mm in length, were tested. Three beams were selected with different bar ratios (${\rho}_1$, ${\rho}_2$, ${\rho}_3$), and considered as control specimens (without ), while three other beams identical to the control beams with the same CFRP laminates ratio and a seventh beam with ${\rho}_{min}$ (the lowest bar ratio) were also used. In the second part of the study, two beams with the bar ratio ${\rho}_2$ were preloaded at two levels, 50 and 100% of their ultimate loads, and then repaired. This experimental investigation was consolidated using an analytical model. The experimental and analytical results indicate that the flexional capacity and stiffness of strengthened and repaired beams using CFRP laminate were increased compared to those of control beams, and the behaviour of repaired beams was nearly similar to the undamaged and strengthened beams; unlike the ductility of strengthened beams, which was greatly reduced compared to the control.
The use of local two-sided and three-sided jacketing for the repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete beam-column joints damaged by severe earthquakes is investigated experimentally and analytically. Two exterior beam-column joint specimens ($O_1$ and $O_2$) were submitted to a series of cyclic lateral loads to simulate severe earthquake damage. The specimens were typical of existing older structures built in the 1960s and 1970s. The specimens were then repaired and strengthened by local two-sided or three-sided jacketing according to UNIDO Manual guidelines. The strengthened specimens ($RO_1$ and $RO_2$) were then subjected to the same displacement history as that imposed on the original specimens. The repaired and strengthened specimens exhibited significantly higher strength, stiffness and better energy dissipation capacity than the original specimens.

A series of 15 reinforced concrete beams was tested to evaluate the flexural performance of the repaired RC beams. the key parameters for this study were the repair materials, polymer/cementitious materials, in addition to the strengthening material, steel plates and carbon fiber sheets. The repaired specimens failed by a typical flexural mode. showing minor interface failure. The results show that epoxy, polyester resins and latex modified cementitous mortars are effective for repairing the concrete beams. However, the flexural preformance of the strengthened beams are varied depending on the repaired materal.

In order to extend the life time of building and civil infra-structure, nowadays, patch type fibrous composite materials are widely used. Repaired concrete columns and beams gain the stiffness and strength, but they lose toughness and show brittle failure. Usually, the cracks of concrete structures are visible with naked eyes and the status of the structure in the life cycle is estimated with visible inspection. After repairing of the structure, crack visibility is blocked by repaired carbon sheets. Therefore, structural monitoring after repairing is indispensible and self diagnosis method with optical fiber sensor is very useful. In this paper, peel-out effects is detected with optical fiber sensors and the strain difference between main structure and repaired carbon sheets when they separate each other.

Latex modification of concrete provides the material with higher flexural strength. This increase in flexural strength can attribute to the crack-arresting action of polymer in concrete, and also to the bonding they provide between the matrix and aggregates. This experimental study presents the fracture behavior of 12 flexural reinforced concrete beams repaired or strengthened by latex-modified concrete with the main experimental variables such as overlay thickness, strength thickness, and shear reinforcement. The results are as follow: All beam specimens having shear reinforcement were failed by delamination rupture at concrete interface at about 80% of ultimate loading after flexural cracking. All specimens overlayed and strengthened by latex-modified concrete (LMC) showed higher ultimate flexural strength than OPC control specimen, but lower than LMC control specimen. This increase in flexural strength could attribute to the high bonding they provide between the matrix and aggregates. All specimens except two shear unreinforced showed quite similar and consistent displacement behavior. The effect of overlay and strength thickness on the load-displacement relationship were a small at this study.
The topic of this study is to strengthen cracked beams with prefabricated RC U cross-sectional plates. The damaged beams were repaired by epoxy based glue. The repaired beams were strengthened using prefabricated plates. The strengthening plates were bonded to the bottom and side faces of the beams by anchorage rods and epoxy. The strengthened beams were incrementally loaded up to maximum load capacities. The experimental results were satisfactory since the load carrying capacities of damaged beams were increased approximately 76% due to strengthening. It was observed that strengthening plates had a dominant effect on the performance of beams in terms of both the post-elastic strength enhancement and the ductility. The experimental program was supported by a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis. The experimental results were compared with the results obtained from the beam modeled with ANSYS finite element program.

The structural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs strengthened by glass fiber reinforced plastic-panels experimentally investigated. The experimental variables are strengthening length, strengthening width, and pre-crack existence. The pre-cracked slabs are initially loaded to 70 percent of ultimate flexural capacity and subsequently repaired with GFRP-Panels bonded to the tension face of the slabs. Five one-way slabs were tested to failure. The main failure mode of strengthened slabs is separation failure by crack propagation from load point section to end of plate. The behavior of strengthened slabs is represented by a maximum load, load-deflection curves an load-strain curves.

This paper presents F.E.M. analysis result about the behavior of R.C. beam repaired with steel plate and fiber sheet. The effect of repairing varies with reinforcement ratio of R.C. beam, plate thickness, numbers of fiber sheet, and repairing length, etc. F.E.M. analysis using a program, DIANA, was carried out taking these factors as parameter in this study. Analysis result shows that repaired R.C. beam behaves differently according to parameters and certain cases imply that repairing is useless or may lay structure in dangerous condition. F.E.M. model considers that interfacial behavior between different two parts of repaired beam is rigid based on an assumption that adhesive failure does not appear before yielding of reinforcement and its analysis shows the result coincides with that of experiment.
