  • While the quality of life is enhanced as many types of diseases are remedied, there is a high demand for analysis and research on gene-related diseases. There exists various forms and requirements in analyzing the relevance between genes and diseases, and the runtime efficiency can be decreased due to the level of algorithm optimization. This paper proposes a platform for analyzing gene disease relevance, provides API for remedying the variability issue, and suggests two algorithms which optimize the runtime efficiency. And, we conduct experiments for measuring the relevancy using the analysis API, and compare the two algorithms. The first algorithm is to improve the runtime efficiency comparing to the conventional methods, and the second algorithm is to improve the runtime efficiency with lower accuracy. This platform can be well utilized for analyzing various forms of gene disease analytics.

  • Random forests is a popular method that improves the instability and accuracy of decision trees by ensembles. In contrast to increasing the accuracy, the ease of interpretation is sacrificed; hence, to compensate for this, variable importance is provided. The variable importance indicates which variable plays a role more importantly in constructing the random forests. However, when a predictor is correlated with other predictors, the variable importance of the existing importance algorithm may be distorted. The downward bias of correlated predictors may reduce the importance of truly important predictors. We propose a new algorithm remedying the downward bias of correlated predictors. The performance of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by the simulated data and illustrated by the real data.

  • When a dispute or conflict occurs, standard methods for resolving them include resolution by trial or resolutions outside of courts. An alternative dispute resolution method called ADR that aims at remedying disputes instead of filing lawsuits is used commonly throughout the world, including the US and China. ADR, which is a remedy method outside of courts, includes negotiation, arbitration, or mediation between the concerned parties, and the arbitration system has several advantages. The Lemon Law is a consumer protection law of the United States that was enacted in 1975. This law prescribes that when specified quality standards are not met repeatedly due to defects in vehicles or electronic products, the manufacturer must provide exchanges or refunds to consumers. Korea also enacted a newly revised automobile management act, the Korea "Lemon Law," on January 1, 2019, which allows consumers to receive exchanges or refunds from the manufacturer if the same malfunction repeatedly occurs after purchasing a new automobile. There have recently been many cases of large fires occurring while driving import vehicles, causing huge public rage; therefore, interest is being focused on the revised automobile management act. Part 5-2 of the automobile management act was newly added to implement automobile exchange or refund arbitration systems. It is desirable to utilize the arbitration system to smoothly resolve automobile-related disputes that have recently increased significantly, and it is thus being used frequently for practical purposes.

  • Enhanced reconstruction of heavy occluded objects was represented using estimation of variance in computational integral imaging. The system is analyzed to extract information of enhanced reconstruction from an elemental images set. To obtain elemental images with enhanced resolution, low focus error, and large depth of focus, synthetic aperture integral imaging (SAII) utilizing a digital camera has been adopted. The focused areas of the reconstructed image are varied with the distance of the reconstruction plane. When an occluded object is occluded heavily, an occluded object can not be reconstructed by removing the occluding object. To obtain reconstruction of the occluded object by remedying the effect of heavy occlusion, the statistical technique has been adopted.

  • Successful implementations of domestic public construction projects have been increasingly concerned with the efforts to improve the inefficient execution. However, the existing factors causing the inefficient execution have been repeatedly occurred in many projects. This is because the previous studies have been concentrated on identifying the factors without in-depth analysis and systematic prioritization. This study has clarified the characteristics of the inefficient public construction projects, identified the causes, constructed their hierarchical structure, and analyzed the impacts on them. In particular, the critical factors causing the inefficient execution are prioritized by the outcomes derived from the questionnaire surveys, which is limited to the pre-construction stage. They are utilized in prioritizing the institutional and political improvements. However, in the future, the analytic and detailed guideline for remedying the factors causing the inefficient execution of a project should be studied, and their analysis will be extended to the construction stage.

  • Phytoremediation is a technology using plants and associated soil microbes to reduce the concentrations or toxic effects of contaminants in the environments. It is regarded as a cost-effective, efficient, eco-friendly, and solar-driven technology with good public acceptance. This study was conducted to find the plants accumulating heavy metals in soils contaminated with Cd and Pb. Experimental plots (plot size: $0.81m^2$) was artificially contaminated using a contaminated soil collected from a field in vicinity of Wondong mine (WD). Sunflower, corn and castor were tested for their potential to remove heavy metals from the contaminated soils. The results indicated that sunflower was most effective in accumulating heavy metals and thus remedying the soils among the three crops. Dry weight and heavy metal uptake of sunflower shoot differed with growth period. For example, the Cd content of shoots including leaf and stem were 0.31mg, 2.23 mg, and 0.96 mg per plot at 4, 8 and 12 weeks after planting in Cd4-WD treatment; in addition, the dry weight of the shoots in Cd8-WD treatment was reduced due to heavy metal toxicity. This experiment showed that sunflower absorbed Cd, Pb and Zn in their shoots up to 8 weeks of planting; thereafter heavy metals uptake was diminished. This implies that the efficiency of these plants in cleaning the contaminated soils may be high at the early stage of plant growth.

  • Spyware is any technology that aids in gathering information about a person or organization with-out their knowledge. Software designed to serve advertising, known as adware, can usually be thought of as spyware as well because it almost invariably includes components for tracking and reporting user information. A piece of spyware and adware affect computers which can rapidly become infected with large numbers of spyware and adware components. Users frequently notice from un-wanted behavior and degradation of system performance, such as significant unwanted CPU activity, disk usage, and network traffic which thereby slows down legitimate uses of these resources. The presence of situation will continue because of rapid expansion of Internet usages. Therefore, security solutions, such as anti-adware and anti-spyware, for recovering these malfunction due to the malicious programs must be developed. However, studies on the malicious programs are still not sufficient. Accordingly, this paper has studied the malicious program techniques, based on the results of analysis of present adware and spyware techniques by employing collected samples, and presents efficient measures for blocking and remedying the malicious programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a multiple cognitive conflict strategy at remedying student's misconceptions. Elementary students have many misconceptions about the brightness of the electric bulb in simple dual circuits. Most of the misconceptions can be summed up as 'the more batteries or the fewer bulbs, the brighter is the output.' The students have learned about the brightness of the electric bulb while connected to a battery in Grade 4 and the brightness of multiple electric bulbs in Grade 5. However, about $50%$ of the students remain with the firm misconception that the brightness of the bulb is related to the number of source batteries. This strong misconception may not lead to a conceptual change in the case of only one cognitive conflict. This study used a multiple conflict strategy while tackling the cognitive conflicts in the students as they solved the problems many times. It involved 160 grade 5 students. The result was they often changed their misconceptions and used more scientific thinking than the same grade students of other schools. It remains to be seen if this success will transfer to other schools and students and we intend on studying further the differences in students regarding this learning process.

  • This paper studied the detection technique using file DNA-based behavior pattern analysis in order to minimize damage to user system by malicious programs before signature or security patch is released. The file DNA-based detection technique was applied to defend against zero day attack and to minimize false detection, by remedying weaknesses of the conventional network-based packet detection technique and process-based detection technique. For the file DNA-based detection technique, abnormal behaviors of malware were splitted into network-related behaviors and process-related behaviors. This technique was employed to check and block crucial behaviors of process and network behaviors operating in user system, according to the fixed conditions, to analyze the similarity of behavior patterns of malware, based on the file DNA which process behaviors and network behaviors are mixed, and to deal with it rapidly through hazard warning and cut-off.
