  • Rubi Fructus (fruit of Rubus coreanus Miq.), oriental medicine, has been used for remedy of the liver diseases and for tonic. In order to investigate the oxygen free radical, a harmful factor of aging, in liver of rats fed diets supplemented with the Rubi Fructus water extract(RX), Sprague-Dawley male rats have been fed a diet supplemented with 3% or 5% RX for a month. In rats fed 3% RX supplemented diet, hepatic cytochrome P-450 contents appeared to be increased, and catalase and superoxide dismutase activities were significantly increased compared with the control. There was no difference in glutathione peroxide and glutathione-S-transferase activities between the rats fed RX supplemented diets and the control diet. In conclusion, it is likely that rats fed a diet supplemented with RX may have the oxygen free radicals detoxication potential.

  • So far, DW(data warehouse) of hospital has been used as tool for analyzing patient-focused data. However, EMR(Electronic Medical Record) is established these days, so informal data which is record and video record could be useful to get some information for patient remedy, not as DW data. This study claims that need of establishing treatment-focused DW, not for hospital administration-focused DW which has been used lots of hospital DW. Also we discussed how CDW can be applied for real medication situation. At last, we deduct a relation past record of sick and wounded patient as Thesaurus searching method by real hospital data for establishing base of early-treatment system.

  • While heat island has been recognized as an unique environmental nuisance in cities, the phenomenon tends to be regarded as an inevitable side effect on urbanization. Recently the nature of the heat island has been disclosed and efforts for the remedy have been discussed in many ways. Some pioneering actions have been taken to mitigate the strength of the heat island's intensity in several countries. After studies for the heat island and speculations on current pilot policies of 3 different countries has been done, mitigation policies for heat island has been suggested as followings. 1. Preservation of natural topography is essential because latent energy consumption(evapotranspiration) from the site is the single most important factor to mitigate the energy surplus caused by urban heat island. 2. Because current national zoning ordinance or building law can not effectively control the site specific local environment, heat island policy should be established or employed at local level. 3. Incentives for the mitigation should be adopted on the process of implementation because environment is public concern. 4. Wind can easily dissipate energy surplus which is the major driving force for heat island. Therefore local wind, the direction and intensity should be sustained and sometimes facilitated fully through policies.

  • Cognitive Radio (CR) has been recently proposed as a promising technology to remedy the problems of spectrum scarcity and spectrum underutilization by enabling unlicensed users to opportunistically utilize temporally unused licensed spectrums in a cautious manner. In Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks (CRAHNs), data routing is one of the most challenging tasks since the channel availability and node mobility are unpredictable. Moreover, the network performance is severely degraded due to large numbers of path failures. In this paper, we propose the Fault-Tolerant Cognitive Ad-hoc Routing Protocol (FTCARP) to provide fast and efficient route recovery in presence of path failures during data delivery in CRAHNs. The protocol exploits the joint path and spectrum diversity to offer reliable communication and efficient spectrum usage over the networks. In the proposed protocol, a backup path is utilized in case a failure occurs over a primary transmission route. Different cause of a path failure will be handled by different route recovery mechanism. The protocol performance is compared with that of the Dual Diversity Cognitive Ad-hoc Routing Protocol (D2CARP). The simulation results obviously prove that FTCARP outperforms D2CARP in terms of throughput, packet loss, end-to-end delay and jitter in the high path-failure rate CRAHNs.

  • In this study, Artemisia capillaris, which has been used in oriental medicine and folks remedy, was investigated to characterize the nutritional composition (protein, lipid, ash, fiber, amino acids, fatty acids, Na, K, P, Mg, Ca and Fe) and effective substance (scopoletin). Artemisia capillaris has often been cited in medical literature for its medicinal effects. The Korean Food and Drug Administration allowed Artemisia capillaris as a food stuff and indicated as In-Jin-Sook. From the view point of the subjects who eat In-Jin-Sook products, most of them ingested it for a certain pharmacological efficacy rather than as a beverage or a food. Therefore, we need to develop functional foods using In-Jin-Sook. Artemisia capillaris was superior in protein, crude fiber, amino acid and fatty acid compositions to wild greens according to Korean Nutritional Composition Table. Also scopoletin, blown for blood vessel relaxation and hypotensive effect, was detected at the level of 326.13 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g. These results demonstrated that Artemisia capillaris has both pharmaceutical effects and balanced nutritional contents. Artemisia capillaris has sufficient values to use as a food stuff for functional foods.

  • To remedy both the degradation and saturation of the output voltages in the modified Dickson pump, a new multistage charge pump circuit is presented in this paper. Here using PMOS charge-transfer switches instead of NMOS ones eliminates the necessity of diode-configured output stage in the modified-Dickson pump, achieving the improved voltage pumping gain and its output voltages proportional to the stage numbers. Measurement indicates that VOUT/3VDD of this new pump circuit with two stages reaches to a value as high as 0.94V even with low VDD=1.0 V, strongly addressing that this scheme is very favorable at low-voltage memory applications.

  • When any investment dispute arises, the investor has to exhaust the local remedies available in the host state, and according to the agreement between the parties, the investor is filed to the ICSID arbitral tribunal to seek arbitral awards. At this time, if the arbitral tribunal decides that the investment agreement has been violated, it normally demands the host state to provide financial compensations to the investor for economic loss. According to the rules of the investment agreement, the host state is supposed to fulfill the arbitral awards voluntarily. If it is unwilling to provide financial compensations according to the arbitral awards, however, the investor may ask the domestic court of the host state for the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards. In addition, if the host state is unwilling to fulfill arbitral awards on account of state immunity, the investor may ask his own country (state of nationality) for diplomatic protection and urge it to demand the fulfillment of arbitral awards. Effectiveness for pecuniary damages, a means to solve problems arising in the enforcement of investment arbitral awards, is found to be rather ineffective. For such cases, this study suggests an alternative to demand either a restitution of property or a corrections of violated measures subject to arbitral awards.

  • To provide effective communication in the wireless mesh network (WMN), several algorithms have been proposed. Since the possibilities of numerous failures always exist during communication, resiliency has been proven to be an important aspect for WMN to recover from these failures. In general, resiliency is the diligence of the reliability and availability in network. Several types of resiliency based routing algorithms have been proposed (i.e., Resilient Multicast, ROMER, etc.). Resilient Multicast establishes a two-node disjoint path and ROMER uses a credit-based approach to provide resiliency in the network. However, these proposed approaches have some disadvantages in terms of network throughput and network congestion. Previously, the buffer based routing (BBR) approach has been proposed to overcome these disadvantages. We proved earlier that BBR is more efficient in regards to w.r.t throughput, network performance, and reliability. In this paper, we consider the node/link failure issues and analogous performance of BBR. For these items we have proposed a resilient packet transmission (RPT) algorithm as a remedy for BBR during these types of failures. We also share the comparative performance analysis of previous approaches as compared to our proposed approach. Network throughput, network congestion, and resiliency against node/link failure are particular performance metrics that are examined over different sized WMNs.

  • Slope reliability analysis and risk assessment for spatially variable soils under rainfall infiltration are important subjects but they have not been well addressed. This lack of study may in part be due to the multiple and diverse evaluation indexes and the low computational efficiency of Monte-Carlo simulations. To remedy this, this paper proposes a highly efficient computational method for investigating random field problems for slopes. First, the probability density evolution method (PDEM) is introduced. This method has high computational efficiency and does not need the tens of thousands of numerical simulation samples required by other methods. Second, the influence of rainfall on slope reliability is investigated, where the reliability is calculated from based on the safety factor curves during the rainfall. Finally, the uncertainty of the sliding mass for the slope random field problem is analyzed. Slope failure consequences are considered to be directly correlated with the sliding mass. Calculations showed that the mass that slides is smaller than the potential sliding mass (shallow surface sliding in rainfall). Sliding mass-based risk assessment is both needed and feasible for engineered slope design. The efficient PDEM is recommended for problems requiring lengthy calculations such as random field problems coupled with rainfall infiltration.
