HPLC is a useful method for identifying amygdalin which has been the subject of considering controversy for cancer remedy. The resolution of amygalin was satisfactory and the separation of amygdalin was accomplished using carbohydrate analysis column, mobile phase of acetonitrile: $H_2O$ (90:10), and UV detector. Quantitative analysis showed that amygdalin contents of Prunus tomentosa, P. serrulata, and P. ishidoyana (Amygdalaceae) were 2.18, 2.41, and 2.26%, respectively. It was suggested that the seed of Prunus species was worth useful resource of amygdalin.

As rapid industrialization continues in these days, construction in the down town areas increases. Since constructions are performed around old and existing structures, the need to provide reinforcements to protect the existing structures from collapse and damage arises. Furthermore, if the construction is to take place in the down town area, difficult work space and damage caused by noise, vibration and collapse of structure can't be ignored. Among the remedial measures available today, micropile reinforcement is considered the best method to remedy these problems. But up to the present the characteristics of micropiles and ground behaviour has not been proven and no standard design is not yet available. Therefore, most design are performed based on previous experiences. In this study, the difference in the bearing capacity with changing reinforcement angle, space and sphere around foundation was monitored. These results were induced to broaden heighten the limits of micropile application.

Antler, deer horn, occupies a particular place in oriental folk medicine as so called tonic remedy. In order to study on the effects of Antler water extract on stress resistance in mice, quantitative response was measured for the change of spontaneous activity by chemical stress drugs in the control group or the Antler water extract pretreated group. Spontaneous activity in mice was measured by counting the number of interruptions of light. The results of experiment were summerized as follows; I) In case of administrating Antler water extract 10mg/kg, 20mg/kg, 50mg/kg, and 100mg/kg, no significant change was observed in spontaneous activity in comparison with the control group. II) In case of administrating Antler water extract for 5 days or 10 days, no significant change was observed in spontaneous activity by chemical stress drugs, caffein and chloropromazine, in comparison with the control group.

Chinese crude drug 'Se Sin'(細辛)has been used to cure headache, cough and expectorant. To the botanical origin of 'Se Sin', Zhong-yao-zhi(中葯志) reported Asarum heterotropoides var. mandshuricum. A. sieboldii and A. sieboldii var. seoulensis, and Zhong-yao-da-ci-dian(中葯大辭典) reported Asarum heterotropoides var. mandshuricum and A. sieboldii of Aristolochiaceae. In Korea, this crude drug has been used as a Korean folk remedy for tothache and aromatic. The botanical origin of 'Se Sin' is considered to be Asarum species of Aristolochoaceae. But there has no pharmacognostical confirmation on it. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Se Sin', we studied on the anatomical characteristics of Asarum species growing wildly in Korea i.e. A. maculatum, A. sieboldii, A. sieboldii var. seoulensis, and of 'Se Sin' from Korea on Korean market. Through our studies, the botanical origin of 'Se Sin' from Korea was proved to be whole plant of Asarum sieboldii and A. sieboldii var. seoulensis.

On the ground of researches in social consciousness about the folk remedies, both of them, people and oriental medicine doctors, feel strongly the relative importance and the necessity of the folk remedies. But the folk remedy had not groped for proper adoption and not shared in the benefits actually. Therefore the oriental medicine doctors present a direct guide for use, instead of leaving people to use improperly. And the oriental medicine doctors are in need of making a guide for efficient use of the folk remedies at the existing disease types.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a common cause of acute hepatitis. Regarding the risk of DILI from herbal preparations, there are controversial issues such as exaggerated reports straying far from the truth and lack of discrimination between herbal drugs and folk remedies or food supplements. This study reported one case of a patient with DILI caused by Smilacis Chinae Radix and cured in an Oriental hospital. Smilacis Chinae Radix has been used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, detoxification and anticancer compound, as a folk remedy. This report would provide helpful information for management of DILI by folk remedies or herbal drugs.

As vehicles become more intelligent for safety and convenience of drivers, in-vehicle networking systems such as controller are network (CAN) have been widely used due to increasing number of electronic control unit (ECU). Recently, FlexRay was developed to replace CAN protocol in chassis networking systems, to remedy the shortage of transmission capacity and unsatisfactory real-time transmission delay of conventional CAN. However, it is difficult for vehicle network designers to calculate platform configuration registers (PCR) and determine a base cycle or slot length of FlexRay. To assist vehicle network designers for designing FlexRay cluster, this paper presents automatic field bus exchange format (FIBEX) generation algorithm from CANdb information, which is de-facto standard database format for CAN. To design this program, structures of FIBEX, CANdb and relationship among PCR variables are analyzed.

In mobile robot navigation, one of the key problems is the pose estimation of the mobile robot. Although the odometry can be used to describe the motions of the mobile robots quite simple and accurately, the validities of the models are limited by a number of error sources contaminating the encoder outputs so that applying the conventional extended Kalman filter to these nominal model does not yield the satisfactory performance. As a remedy for this problem, we consider the uncertain nonlinear kinematic model of the mobile robot that contains the norm bounded uncertainties and also propose a new robust extended Kalman filter based on the Krein space approach. The proposed robust filter has the same recursive structure as the conventional extended Kalman filter and can hence be readily designed to effectively account for the uncertainties. The computer simulations will be given to verify the robustness against the parameter variation as well as the reliable performance of the proposed robust filter.

During the construction of externally prestressed 7-span continuous segmental bridge, cracks beyond permissible limit were found at anchor zone of expansion joint segment. To eliminate this problem, tension side of diaphragm was prestressed by post-tensioning bars in vertical and horizontal direction. To investigate this remedy is acceptable, stresses of reinforcing bars and concrete surface were measured for the real structure in the field. The measurement was performed through each step of prestressing sequence during construction. Also to investigage stresses induced by live load, static load test was performed and the results was analyzed. In this paper it will be presented the procedure and results for this experimental study along with comparison with analytical study.
