Space Management on Campus of a Mobile BIM-based Augmented Reality System

  • Over the past decade, building information modeling (BIM) has gained a foothold in the construction sector. However, as digital data generated in the virtual space of a computer environment, BIM-based data have an inherent limitation in their application efficacy under field conditions. To overcome this, the present study employs augmented reality (AR) to reduce the discrepancy between the digital data generated in virtual spaces and real-world conditions. We assessed the potential applicability of an AR-based interface by analyzing existing examples of Apple, Google, and Facebook, which reflect the recent developments of technologies focusing on user experience. We then proceeded with an AR study, restricting the scope of application to a mobile environment in which an efficient information transmission between a digital model and real life can take place. Object-oriented software engineering was employed to ensure an efficient implementation of a BIM-based AR system for campus space management (CSM) in a mobile environment. Finally, we conducted a module test to check the reliability of the CSM method by using an AR-based mobile system with a prototype of the model used in university campuses, and extracted and itemized the supplementary requirements for CSM by using BIM tools for running AR applications.

  • Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) is an optimization technique considering simultaneously multiple disciplines such as dynamics, mechanics, structural analysis, thermal and fluid analysis and electromagnetic analysis. A software system enabling multidisciplinary design optimization is called MDO framework. An MDO framework provides an integrated and automated design environment that increases product quality and reliability, and decreases design cycle time and cost. The MDO framework also works as a common collaborative workspace for design experts on multiple disciplines. In this paper, we present the architecture for an MDO framework along with the requirement analysis for the framework. The requirement analysis has been performed through interviews of design experts in industry and thus we claim that it reflects the real needs in industry. The requirements include integrated design environment, friendly user interface, highly extensible open architecture, distributed design environment, application program interface, and efficient data management to handle massive design data. The resultant MDO framework is datasever-oriented and designed around a centralized data server for extensible and effective data exchange in a distributed design environment among multiple design tools and software.

BIM 라이브러리 속성정보 통합관리 체계 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Integrated Management System for BIM Property Information)

  • BIM library, as a systematic collection of BIM objects where the building information is stored, is a vital factor to construct the BIM based work environment. However, construction business is faced the problems relating BIM library such as the absence of the standard for establishing BIM library, the discontinuity of BIM library's compatibility and the lack of practice applicable BIM library. These problems cause the decreasing work efficiency and the recreating BIM model, by delivering inefficient information required in each stage and application field. The purpose of this study is to suggest the integrated management system for property information of BIM library in order to minimize the reworking and to manage information of each stage and application field when exchanging and sharing information. To achieve this, the BIM information classification, the criteria of property requirements for information exchange in BIM application field and the BIM library management system are developed. This study could contributes to ensuring the reliability and accuracy of results of BIM based analysis and to enhancing the speed of business process with sharing and exchanging building information utilizing a single BIM model.

"3+3 PROCESS" FOR SAFETY CRITICAL SOFTWARE FOR I&C SYSTEM IN NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

  • The "3+3 Process" for safety critical software for nuclear power plants' I&C (Instrumentation and Control system) has been developed in this work. The main idea of the "3+3 Process" is both to simplify the software development and safety analysis in three steps to fulfill the requirements of a software safety plan [1]. The "3-Step" software development process consists of formal modeling and simulation, automated code generation and coverage analysis between the model and the generated source codes. The "3-Step" safety analysis consists of HAZOP (hazard and operability analysis), FTA (fault tree analysis), and DV (design validation). Put together, these steps are called the "3+3 Process". This scheme of development and safety analysis minimizes the V&V work while increasing the safety and reliability of the software product. For assessment of this process, validation has been done through prototyping of the SDS (safety shut-down system) #1 for PHWR (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor).

  • Decision support systems are a key focus of research on developing control rooms to aid operators in making reliable decisions and reducing incidents caused by human errors. For this purpose, models of complex systems can be developed to diagnose causes or consequences for specific alarms. Models applied in safety systems of complex and safety-critical systems require rigorous and reliable model building and testing. Multilevel flow modeling is a qualitative and discrete method for diagnosing faults and has previously only been validated by subjective and qualitative means. To ensure reliability during operation, this work aims to synthesize a procedure to measure model performance according to diagnostic requirements. A simple procedure is proposed for validating and evaluating the concept of multilevel flow modeling. For this purpose, expert statements, dynamic process simulations, and pilot plant experiments are used for validation of simple multilevel flow modeling models of a hydrocyclone unit for oil removal from produced water.

A New Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm for Inter-Cloud Service Composition

  • Service composition in the Inter-Cloud raises new challenges that are caused by the different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of the users, which are served by different geo-distributed Cloud providers. This paper aims to explore how to select and compose such services while considering how to reach high efficiency on cost and response time, low network latency, and high reliability across multiple Cloud providers. A new hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm to perform the above task called LS-NSGA-II-DE is proposed, in which the differential evolution (DE) algorithm uses the adaptive mutation operator and crossover operator to replace the those of the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) to get the better convergence and diversity. At the same time, a Local Search (LS) method is performed for the Non-dominated solution set F{1} in each generation to improve the distribution of the F{1}. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm performs well in terms of the solution distribution and convergence, and in addition, the optimality ability and scalability are better compared with those of the other algorithms.

  • Lots of researches and applications on the automated overhead cranes in shops have been done for some decades, but a few successful results are reported. Integrated crane control systems designed by famous engineering companies are still expensive and are not satisfactory in view of maintenance and reliability. A more reasonable control system fit to requirements of manufacturing industries is suggested in the study. The new deigned system has superior capabilities for anti-sway of rope and position control. The controller for automated operations is composed of a Linux-based PC for non real-time control and a high-speed PLC for hard real-time control. Some algorithms required for coil yard operations as well as main control algorithms such as reference position generation, position control and anti-sway control have been designed and fully tested on the new crane simulator. The designed crane control system showed satisfactory performance on position control accuracy and anti-sway of rope. The maximum positional error is 8mm and the maximum sway error is 0.1 degrees. The suggested control strategies have been successfully applied to the 10-1 crane in No. 4 CGL of in the Kwangyang Steel Works and in commercial operation.

WLP and New System Packaging Technologies

  • The Wafer Level Packaging is one of the most important technologies in the semiconductor industry today. Its primary advantages are its small form factor and low cost potential for manufacturing including test procedure. The CASIO's WLP samples, application example and the structure are shown in Fig.1, 2&3. There are dielectric layer , under bump metal, re-distribution layer, copper post , encapsulation material and terminal solder .The key technologies are 'Electroplating thick copper process' and 'Unique wafer encapsulation process'. These are very effective in getting electrical and mechanical advantages of package. (Fig. 4). CASIO and CMK are developing a new System Packaging technology called the Embedded Wafer Level Package (EWLP) together. The active components (semiconductor chip) in the WLP structure are embedded into the Printed Wiring Board during their manufacturing process. This new technical approach has many advantages that can respond to requirements for future mobile products. The unique feature of this EWLP technology is that it doesn't contain any solder interconnection inside. In addition to improved electrical performance, EWLP can enable the improvement of module reliability. (Fig.5) The CASIO's WLP Technology will become the effective solution of 'KGD problem in System Packaging'. (Fig. 6) The EWLP sample shown in Fig.7 including three chips in the WLP form has almost same structure wi_th SoC's. Also, this module technology are suitable for RF and Analog system applications.   • The performance requirements on the safety-based functionality of railway signal systems have been reinforced and the effort for enhancement of the existing system or development of the new system is being accordingly made. In particular, various technical researches on replacement or improvement of the existing ATS(Automatic Train Stop) signaling system are now in progress for better operational efficiency. In this study, the complementary points for improvement or replacement of the currently used system(i.e., ATS) will be derived in terms of operating efficiency in an integrated operating environment with the newly introduced system(e.g., ATC: Automatic Train Control). This study can contribute to derive the need for improvement of the signaling system by checking the interface problems and comparing between different systems through the analysis of real operation cases in the field. Eventually, this analysis can be applied to prevent and estimate the collision accidents can be caused by the failure of the signaling system in advance. In addition, the results can be used to provide a future direction to secure the reliability in the parallel operation by integration based on different railway signaling systems.

웨어러블 텍스타일 스트레인 센서 리뷰 (Wearable Textile Strain Sensors)

  • This paper provides a review of wearable textile strain sensors that can measure the deformation of the body surface according to the movements of the wearer. In previous studies, the requirements of textile strain sensors, materials and fabrication methods, as well as the principle of the strain sensing according to sensor structures were understood; furthermore, the factors that affect the sensing performance were critically reviewed and application studies were examined. Textile strain sensors should be able to show piezoresistive effects with consistent resistance-extension in response to the extensional deformations that are repeated when they are worn. Textile strain sensors with piezoresistivity are typically made using conductive yarn knit structures or carbon-based fillers or conducting polymer filler composite materials. For the accuracy and reliability of textile strain sensors, fabrication technologies that would minimize deformation hysteresis should be developed and processes to complement and analyze sensing results based on accurate understanding of the sensors' resistance-strain behavior are necessary. Since light-weighted, flexible, and highly elastic textile strain sensors can be worn by users without any inconvenience so that to enable the users to continuously collect data related to body movements, textile strain sensors are expected to become the core of human interface technologies with a wide range of applications in diverse areas.
