Study on the Effect of Life Safety Awareness and Safety Behaviors of Fire Professional Engineers on Life Safety (소방기술사의 안전의식, 안전행동과 인명안전과의 관계 연구)

  • In the present study, a group of subjects consisting of "Fire Professional Engineers" was selected to examine the effects of life safety awareness and safety behaviors of the subjects on life safety through an analyses of the descriptive statistics, factors, reliability, and correlation; simple regression and three-stage regression analyses on mediation were also carried out based on the hypotheses developed. The results showed that the degree of safety behavior increased by 72.1% in accordance with the increased safety awareness of fire professional engineers; the life safety was also increased by 61.5% and 64.5% by the increases in safety awareness and safety behavior of fire professional engineers, respectively. In addition, the safety behaviors demonstrated a partial mediatory effect in the relationship between safety awareness and life safety. All hypotheses (H1, H2, H3, H4), established for the present study, were accepted based on statistical verifications that justified an amendment of the Acts pertinent to firefighting service focusing on life safety; the data are expected to be exploited to reflect significance of life safety.

  • Owing to the established international standards for reliability and safety management of railways and the third-part conformity assessment implementation, quantitative risk assessment focusing on communication system related to railway safety has being implemented. The quantitative risk assessment starts from the establishment of quantitative RAMS requirements; the risk has to be maintained under an acceptable safety level. This paper introduces the risk assessment process based on international standards ; risk assessment was conducted using failure data for railway facilities for about 5.5 years. In addition, based on the results, a scientific risk management method for railway facilities is suggested.

  • This paper deals with the design, implementation, and test of a CRCS for nuclear power plants. Although CRCS is still classified into non-safety class, much attention on its reliability issue has been given so far because of its importance for the stable operation of the reactor in the plant. In terms of technical aspects, our system adopts a full-duplex configuration to enhance reliability in contrast to the existing systems that are all simplex.

The Study on the e-Service Quality Factors in m-Shopping Mall App based on the Kano Model (카노 모형을 이용한 모바일 쇼핑몰 앱의 서비스 품질 요인 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose - In this study, it is classified the service quality dimension of mobile shopping app using Kano model. In addition, it is evaluated quality factors suitable for strategic management from the viewpoint of service provider through mobile application through binary dimension analysis. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, seven quality dimensions such as information quality, reliability, immediacy, convenience, design, security and customer service were derived through related studies to make binary shopping quality app quality measurement. 37 sub-variables were set by each quality dimensions. Each questionnaire was composed of positive and negative items like Kano's proposed method, and the satisfaction coefficient suggested by Timko(1993) was examined to understand the influence of each factors on customer satisfaction. Results - As a result of research, shopping app users perceived unity quality factor in most items of service quality dimension such as information quality, reliability, immediacy, convenience and customer service. In addition, the satisfaction coefficient showed a good impression, quick response of the result, fast delivery, and the unsatisfactory coefficient showed more interest in personal information such as payment method safety, and transaction security. As a result of research, shopping app users perceived unity quality factor in most items of service quality dimension such as information quality, reliability, immediacy, convenience and customer service. And, in information quality, the information overload was classified as an apathetic quality component, while the related information provision belonged to an attractive quality component. In reliability quality, customized service provision was classified as an attractive quality component. In instant connectivity, the quality of the connection during transport was classified as an attractive quality component. In convenience quality, access to product information was classified as a one-way quality component. All components of designs quality were classified as attractive quality components, and in security quality, all of their components were all classified as one quality component. Lastly, in customer service, they components were all classified as a single quality component. In addition, the satisfaction coefficient showed a good impression, quick response of the result, fast delivery, and the unsatisfactory coefficient showed more interest in personal information such as payment method safety, and transaction security. Conclusion - In the online service environment, which is difficult to differentiate in terms of upward upgrading only by technological implementation and function, the results of this study can be suggested as a differentiating factor for major channels with customers rather than improve the brand image.

  • Based on the data accumulated through EMU fault management, this paper examines the reliability of old railway car parts and proposes measurements to improve safety. Subway Line 7 of the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, auxiliary power unit (Static Inverter) of the EMU second version is a core equipment to supply power to various room-service units in cars and make an effect directly on passenger satisfaction. To analyze the pattern of failure throughout the field data over a long period of time, this analysis of statistics and reliability considers the operating environment and stress factors. This statistical analysis presents the correlation between failure and the temperature stress factors related to frequent failure occurring intensively in summer. In addition, throughout the analysis of the life of the IGBT inverter, the effect of the temperature stress factor was observed before and after the repair. As a result of an analysis of the optimal operating conditions considering two variations of EMU, such as variable load and outside temperature, a difference in the cooling capacity between the optimal operating conditions and frequent failure conditions was observed. Based on this analysis, this paper suggests a way to minimize cooling capacity difference for the optimal operational conditions.

  • As a modem urban train is getting complex in terms of high-technology in its systems and components, the failure management should be performed with scientific and systematic technique. FMEA is a technique to analyze the failure trends of component parts and influences to the higher level system in order to discover the design incompleteness and potential defects, which is for improving reliability. Especially, FMECA (Failure Mode Effects, and Criticality Analysis) is used in case that the criticality that has an immense influence to the system is important. In case of urban train, in its design and manufacturing steps, FMEA is frequently used as an analysis technique to meet the safety objectives and eliminate potential hazards/failures since the concepts of reliability of train is introduced these days. Though, FMEA technique in the maintenances steps lacks in its investigation and applications yet. FMEA is also not applied to the trains operated by Seoul metro in the design and manufacture steps excepts the newest trains. In this paper, through analyzing the failures/maintenance data of the belt-type door systems used in trains operated in Seoul metro Line 1, which is accumulated in RIMS (Rolling-stock Information Maintenance System), FMEA procedures to the belt-type door engines are proposed. Especially, an effort is made, to approach the detailed FMECA procedures to the door magnet valve and switch and door engine devices which vastly influences the customer safety and satisfaction.

  • This study attempted to provide implications by analyzing the impact of business Owner's safety commitment on industrial accidents and examining the mediating role of management supervisors' safety leadership and worker participation. Analysis was conducted on 2,067 manufacturing sites with 20 to 50 employees in the 10th Occupational Safety and Health Survey data. SPSS waw used to secure the reliability of the measurement variable. Hypothesis vertification was carried out after securing the suitability and validity of the structural model using AMOS. The direct impact of three latent variables on industrial accidents was confirmed: the business owner's safety commitment, the management supervisor's safety leadership, and the worker participation. The employer's safety will and the management supervisor's safety leadership do not directly affect industial accidents, but it has been verified that worker participation has a diret impact on industrial accident reduction. In addition, it has been confirmed that the safety leadership and worker participation of the management. Supervior have a complete mediating effect on the reduction of industrial accidents by mediating with the safety leadership of the management supervior and the participation of the workers. This study analyzed the impact on industrial accidents by dividing the stakeholders constituting the workplace into three classes: business owners, superviors, and workers, but the results suggest that employers and all workers inside the workplace may be organically linked to achieving the goal of reducing industrial accidents. Therefore, in order to establish an autonomous safety management system for safety and health at workerplaces, efforts are needed to reduce industrial accidents in their respective location by forming an organic community among internal stakeholders.

On the member reliability of wind force-resisting steel frames designed by EN and ASCE rules of load combinations

  • The expediency of revising universal rules for the combination of gravity and lateral actions of wind force-resisting steel structures recommended by the Standards EN 1990 and ASCE/SEI 7-05 is discussed. Extreme wind forces, gravity actions and their combinations for the limit state design of structures are considered. The effect of statistical uncertainties of extreme wind pressure and steel yield strength on the structural safety of beam-column joints of wind force-resisting multistory steel frames designed by the partial factor design (PFD) and the load and resistance factor design (LRFD) methods is demonstrated. The limit state criterion and the performance process of steel frame joints are presented and considered. Their long-term survival probability analysis is based on the unsophisticated method of transformed conditional probabilities. A numerical example illustrates some discrepancies in international design standards and the necessity to revise the rule of universal combinations of loads in wind and structural engineering.

  • General reliability assessment of levees embankment is performed with safety factors for rainfall characteristics and hydrologic and hydraulic parameters, based on the results of deterministic analysis. The safety factors are widely employed in the field of engineering handling model parameters and the diversity of material properties, but cannot explain every natural phenomenon. Uncertainty of flood analysis and related parameters by introducing stochastic method rather than deterministic scheme will be required to deal with extreme weather and unprecedented flood due to recent climate change. As a consequence, stochastic-method-based measures considering parameter uncertainty and related factors are being established. In this study, a variety of dimensionless cumulative rainfall curve for typhoon and monsoon season of July to September with generation method of stochastic temporal variation is generated by introducing Monte Carlo method and applied to the risk assessment of levee embankment using reliability index. The result of this study reflecting temporal and regional characteristics of a rainfall can be used for the establishment of flood defence measures, hydraulic structure design and analysis on a watershed.

Neural Network-Based Prediction of Dynamic Properties (인공신경망을 활용한 동적 물성치 산정 연구)

  • Dynamic soil properties are essential factors for predicting the detailed behavior of the ground. However, there are limitations to gathering soil samples and performing additional experiments. In this study, we used an artificial neural network (ANN) to predict dynamic soil properties based on static soil properties. The selected static soil properties were soil cohesion, internal friction angle, porosity, specific gravity, and uniaxial compressive strength, whereas the compressional and shear wave velocities were determined for the dynamic soil properties. The Levenberg-Marquardt and Bayesian regularization methods were used to enhance the reliability of the ANN results, and the reliability associated with each optimization method was compared. The accuracy of the ANN model was represented by the coefficient of determination, which was greater than 0.9 in the training and testing phases, indicating that the proposed ANN model exhibits high reliability. Further, the reliability of the output values was verified with new input data, and the results showed high accuracy.
