Roles of Acid-Base Surface Interaction on Thermal and Mechanical Interfacial Behaviors of SiC/PMMA Nanocomposites (산-염기 표면반응이 탄화규소/PMMA 나노복합재료의 열적·기계적 계면특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this work, the effect of chemical treatments on surface properties of SiC was investigated in thermal and mechanical interfacial behaviors of SiC/PMMA nanocomposites. The acid/base value, contact angles, and FT-IR analysis were performed for the study of surface characteristics of the SiC studied. The thermal stabilities of the SiC/PMMA nanocomposites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Also the mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied in critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) and critical strain energy release rate ($G_{IC}$) measurements. As a result, the acidically treated SiC (A-SiC) had higher acid value than that of untreated SiC (V-SiC) or basically treated SiC (B-SiC). The acidic solution treatment led to an increase in surface free energy of the SiC, mainly due to the increase of its specific component. Thermal and mechanical interfacial properties of the SiC/PMMA nanocomposites, including initial decomposition temperature (IDT), $K_{IC}$, and $G_{IC}$ had been improved in the acidic treatment on SiC. This was due to the improvement in the interfacial bonding strength, resulting from the acid-base interfacial interactions between the fillers and polymeric matrix.

Formulation of Omeprazole Preparations using Omeprazole-Ethylendiamine Complex (오메프라졸-에칠렌디아민 복합체를 이용한 제제설계)

  • The study was carried out to develop useful formulation for omeprazole(OMP) through OMP-ethylendiamine complex(OMPED), and the pharmaceutical properties of formula were tested to find out the difference in vivo behaviors of formulations between the free and complexed OMP. Oral and suppository dosage forms were also formulated and the dissolution profiles and pharmacokinetic parameters were measured to observe the difference in bioavailability between the free and complex form, and the correlation between dissolution rate and bioavailability was evaluated. The results are summarized as follows; In the case of formulation for oral administration, the release of OMP from enteric OMPED pellets was found satisfactory to the requirement standard and no decomposition of OMP in the pellets was found in acidic solution. Therefore the enteric OMPED pellets are anticipated to be a stable formulation. The release of OMP from OMPED tablet with chitosan as excipient and coated with cellulose acetate phthalate was found to be significantly retarded. The results of bioavailability test for OMP and OMPED tablets with lactose-excipient showed that the AUC value of OMP tablet was $116.89\;{\mu}g\;{\cdot}\;min/ml$, that of OMPED tablet was $161.10\;{\mu}g\;{\cdot}\;min/ml$, respectively. The reason why was thought that OMP decomposes more readily in body than OMPED, and the AUC of the tablet with chitosan-excipient and coated with cellulose acetate phthalate was most enhanced. In the case of bioavailability for suppositories with OMP, $OMP-{\beta}\;-cyclodextrin$ complex and OMPED, the AUC of OMPED suppository was most increased. From the above results, it is thought that the more stable and bioavailable oral or rectal dosage forms could be developed by using the OMPED as a potential OMP complex.

The Effect of the Reinforced Particles on the Mechanical and Fracture Behaviors of the SiC/Al2O3/Vinyl-Ester Composites (SiC/Al2O3/Vinyl-Ester 복합재료의 강화재 입자가 기계적 특성 및 파괴거동에 미치는 영향)

  • Particle reinforced composites are materials that have enhanced physical properties by adding particle reinforcements to polymer materials and have been applied to a wide range of fields such as the aerospace, bio-technology and automative industry. In this study, particle reinforced composites were prepared by mixing $SiC/Al_2O_3$ to the vinyl ester as the thermoset resin. The purpose of this study is to evaluate mechanical properties and fracture behavior by the tensile test and single edge notch specimen according to the addition ratio of reinforcement. Addition of 1 and 2 wt% of the particle reinforcement to the vinyl-ester resin was effective for the strength improvement. However, when it was more than 3 wt%, its strength was decreased. Also the highest elastic modulus obtained as 3.19 GPa was found at the 2 wt% addition of reinforcement. Futhermore the fracture toughness was evaluated by the energy release rate and the maximum critical energy release rate was obtained when 1 wt% reinforcement. The results show that the limit of adding of $SiC/Al_2O_3$ for improvement of the mechanical and fracture performance is 2 wt% reinforcement particles.

Implementation of Biopharmaceutics Classification System Concepts in Developing Dissolution Tests (용출규격 설정을 위한 생물약제학적분류체계 개념 활용)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the dissolution patterns of variety of orally administered drug products available on the market. It aimed to understand their dissolution behaviors on the basis of the biopharmaceutics classification system (BCS) concept. On the tenets of BCS, several active pharmaceutical ingredients were selected: fluoxetine hydrochloride (class I), naproxen sodium (class ll), pyridostigmine bromide (class III), furosemide (class IV) and simvastatin (class IV). Typical dissolution media used in this study were pH 1.2, pH 4 & 6.8 phosphate buffers, and water. In cases, particular dissolution media specified in the KP and/or USP were used. Dissolution patterns of fluoxetine hydrochloride and pyridostigmine bromide products were characterized by their rapid release In addition, their dissolution characteristics were relatively unaffected by the type of a dissolution medium. Similar dissolution patterns were observed with pH 1.2, pH 4 & 6.8 phosphate buffers and water. By sharp contrast, poor dissolution patterns were noticed with naproxen sodium products, when pH 1.2 and pH 4 phosphate buffer were used. Improvements in its dissolution were achieved by switching the dissolution media to pH 6.8 phosphate buffer or water. Unsatisfactory dissolution data also were observed with a simvastatin product, when it was subject to dissolution tests by use of a surfactant-free pH 1.2, pH 4 & 6.8 phosphate buffers and water. All the release patterns reported in this study were best understood when BCS concepts were implemented. Our results demonstrated that a BCS-based drug classification should be considered first to choose a dissolution test/method and set up dissolution specification.

Effect of Sustained Release Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin on Semen Characteristics and Sexual Behavior in Dairy Young Bulls (소 성장호르몬 투여가 젖소 후보 종모우의 정액 성상 및 성 행동 양식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect of sustained release recombinant bovine somatotropin(SR-rBST) with different dosage(0, 0.03mg/kg body weight/14 day, 0.06mg/kg body weight/14 day, 0.09mg/kg body weight/14 day) on the economical traits of the semen characteristics and sexual behaviors and blood chemical values with sixteen Holstein dairy young bulls in Dairy Cattle Improvement Center of National Livestock Co-operatives Federation. Sensual testings of collected semens of Holstein young bulls were not different among treatments (p>0.05). Ejaculated semen volumes of control, SR-rBST 0.03mg, 0.06mg and 0.09mg groups were 5.6ml, 5.6ml, 6.0ml and 6.7m, respectively, but the result of SR-rBST 0.09mg group significantly increased semen volume(P<0.05). In sperm concentration, SR-rBST 0.06mg and 0.09mg groups significantly increased the total number of sperms than the other groups(P<0.05). In otherwise, SR-rBST treatments did not affect on pH, osmotic pressure, anti forzen rate, abnormality and motility of collected semen during whole experimental period. Reaction time(RT), sexual aggressiveness(SA) and tactile stimulation(TS) were not different among treatments. The libido scores(LS) of control, 0.03mg, 0.06mg and 0.09mg groups were 68.0, 80.5, 73.9 and 80.8, respectively, and LS were significantly improved by SR-rBST administration(P<0.05). The effect of SR-rBST on scrotal circumference measurement that is important factor to determine the ability of semen production, was not different among treatments. These studies indicates that SR-rBST treatments favourably affect on semen quality and sexual libido in Holstein young bull.

Synthesis and Characterization of Biodegradable Thermo- and pH-Sensitive Hydrogels Based on Pluronic F127/Poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) Macromer and Acrylic Acid

  • Several kinds of biodegradable hydrogels were prepared via in situ photopolymerization of Pluronic F127/poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) macromer and acrylic acid (AA) comonomer in aqueous medium. The swelling kinetics measurements showed that the resultant hydrogels exhibited both thermo- and pH-sensitive behaviors, and that this stimuli-responsiveness underwent a fast reversible process. With increasing pH of the local buffer solutions, the pH sensitivity of the hydrogels was increased, while the temperature sensitivity was decreased. In vitro hydrolytic degradation in the buffer solution (pH 7.4, $37^{\circ}C$), the degradation rate of the hydrogels was greatly improved due to the introduction of the AA comonomer. The in vitro release profiles of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in-situ embedded into the hydrogels were also investigated: the release mechanism of BSA based on the Peppas equation was followed Case II diffusion. Such biodegradable dual-sensitive hydrogel materials may have more advantages as a potentially interesting platform for smart drug delivery carriers and tissue engineering scaffolds.

Preparation and Release Behaviors of Chitosan Microcapsules Containing Fragrant Oil (향오일을 함유한 키토산 마이크로캡슐의 제조 및 방출 특성)

  • In this work, the crosslinked-chitosan microcapsules containing fragrant oil were prepared by oil-in-water-in-oil (O/W/O) multi-emulsion method. The effects of concentration of fragrant oil and stirring rates on the preparing of the microcapsules were investigated. The diameter and form of the microcapsules were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, the average particle size of microcapsules was decreased with increasing the stirring rate. The formation of chitosan microcapsules was comfirmed by FT-IR. The inclusion of fragrant oil into chitosan microcapsules was determined in the presence of specific peak of fragrant oil, i.e., $1,460cm^{-1}$, $2,960cm^{-1}$. Also, the release behavior or profile of fragrant oil from chitosan microcapsules was examined with UV/vis spectra. Released amounts of fragrant oil were increased with increasing as the content of fragrant oil and decreasing the pH.

Introduction to Thermoacoustic Models for Combustion Instability Prediction Using Flame Transfer Function (화염 전달 함수를 이용한 열음향 연소 불안정 해석 모델 소개)

  • This paper reviews the state-of-the-art thermoacoustic(TA) modeling techniques and research trend to predict major parameters determining combustion instabilities in lean premixed gas turbine combustors. Linear TA modeling results give us an information on eigenfrequencies and initial growth rate of the instabilities. For the prediction, linear relation equation between acoustic waves and heat release oscillations should be derived in the determined system. Key information for this analysis is to determine the heat release fluctuations in the combustor, which is typically obtained by using n-${\tau}$ function from flame transfer function measurements and/or predictions. Great advancement in the linear TA modeling has been made over a couple of decades, and some successful prediction results have been reported in actual gas turbine combustors. However nonlinear TA model developments which are required to analyze nonlinear system behaviors such as limit cycle saturation and transition phenomena are still limited in a very simple system. In order to fully understand combustion instabilities in a complicated real system, nonlinear flame dynamics and acoustic wave interaction with nonlinear system boundary conditions should be explained from the nonlinear TA model developments.

A Study on the Flame Shape and the Interaction between Pilot and Main Flames in a Dual Swirl Combustor (이중선회 연소기에서 화염형상과 파일럿과 주 화염의 상호작용에 관한 연구)

  • Flame behaviors and interaction between pilot and main flames in a dual swirl combustor were investigated experimentally and numerically. Under the condition of fixed swirl angle of $45^{\circ}$ for main flame, the swirl angle of pilot flame, total heat release rate and equivalence ratio of main flame were used as major parameters. As a result, detailed flame stability diagram of dual swirl combustor was identified in terms of 5 flame modes with the changes in total heat release rate and equivalence ratio of main flame. It was found that the swirl angle of pilot flame plays the most important role in the changes in flame location and overall flow structure inside the combustor, and thus leads to the significant change in the interaction between pilot and main flame.

Synthesis of Hyaluronic Acid Scaffold for Tissue Engineering and Evaluation of Its Drug Release Behaviors (히아루론산을 이용한 조직공학용 Scaffold의 제조와 약물 방출 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we tried to design and synthesize using natural polymers (hyaluronic acid and sodium alginate) and also to make some kinds of scaffolds as sponge type for reducing the burst effect of loaded drug from them. Photo-dimerizable group was incorporated to hyaluronic acid and degradable hydrogel was prepared by the UV radiation of the polymer. The pore size and its distribution of scaffold were controlled by changing microsphere production conditions such as solution concentration and spraying pressure. It was found that drug release behavior from synthesized scaffolds was affected by hybridization of two naturally originated polymers (cinnamoylated tetrabutylammonium hyaluronate: CHT and cinnamolylated sodium alginate: CSA) and the obtained scaffolds were degraded in fairly long time (about 2 months) under in vitro environment. Therefore, we expect that obtained scaffolds can be applicable for the tissue regeneration scaffolds in the fields of orthopaedic surgery.
