This study examined the behavior of the ground by comparing the methods using the results of the Terzaghi formula and the ground investigation data and method considering the dilatancy effect for a circular tunnel using the finite element method. In the case of the Terzaghi formula, the tunnel load can be overestimated and cause overdesign. The method using the results of the ground investigation data cannot be applied when a reasonable coefficient of earth pressure is not determined. This is because it behaves completely differently from the actual behavior, and unexpected problems can occur. In the case of the method considering the dilatancy effect, however, both the strength enhancement effect can be considered through the dilatancy angle and relative density. Therefore, the tunnel load was calculated most reasonably using the method considering dilatancy. Finite element analysis using the geotechnical survey results showed that the tensile stress acts at the top of the tunnel when the upper soil of the tunnel is shallow. On the other hand, additional verification is necessary, such as a comparison with the field measurement results. Through additional research, if normalized, the tunnel load can be calculated reasonably at the time of tunnel design, and safe and economical design is possible.

In the present study, the performance of a PF heat exchanger for heat pump dryer was investigated. Capacity and dehumidification amount of the PF heat exchangers(PF1, PF2, PF3) by different inclination angles($0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$) were studied. Experimental conditions were an air velocity crossing to the heat exchanger(0.5m/s), an air dry-bulb temperature($60^{\circ}C$) and relative humidity(70%). The experimental results have shown that the performance of the inclined PF heat exchangers was better than that of the vertically installed one. PF3 showed better performance compared to PF1 and PF2 due to the large pin pitch which are leading to more draining for dehumidified water. But, capacity and dehumidification amount of the PF heat exchanger at the inclination angles of $60^{\circ}$ was decreased due to pressure drop. Also, to predict the experimental data of the PF heat exchanger, the performance program was developed for the inclination angles of $0^{\circ}$. PF heat exchanger performance between experiment data and calculation data was satisfied within the maximum 2% for capacity and 3% for dehumidification amount.

This study is based on a series of numerical modeling experiments to understand the circulation and its change in the Chunsu Bay (CSB), Yellow Sea of Korea. A skill analysis was performed for the tidal height and tidal current of the observation data using the amplitude and phase of the 4 major tidal constituents respectively for verification of modeling experimental results. As a result, most of the skill score was seen to be over 90%, so numerical model experiment results can be said to be in good agreement with the observed tidal height and tidal current. Tidal wave proceeded from the entrance of the CSB towards inside, and the tidal range gradually increased to the north. It took about 10 to 30 minutes for the tidal wave to reach to northern end. The tidal wave showed a characteristic to rotate counter-clockwise in the southern part. The tidal current flowed to the north-south direction along the bottom topography; the angle of the major axis appeared alongside the isobath. It showed the characteristics of reversing tidal current with the minor axis less than 10% of the major axis. The strength of the tidal residual current that is influenced by geographical factors including bathymetry and coastline showed the range of 1~30 cm/sec, greater in the south channel and smaller in northern Bay. Two pairs of cyclonic/anti-cyclonic eddies around Jukdo and 3~4 pairs of strong eddies at the southern part of CSB in hundreds of m to a few km size by relative vorticity derived from the tidal residual current.
An intensive analysis of 148 timings of V700 Cyg was performed, including our new timings and 59 timings calculated from the super wide angle search for planets (SWASP) observations, and the dynamical evidence of the W UMa W subtype binary was examined. It was found that the orbital period of the system has varied over approximately $66^y$ in two complicated cyclical components superposed on a weak upward parabolic path. The orbital period secularly increased at a rate of $+8.7({\pm}3.4){\times}10^{-9}$ day/year, which is one order of magnitude lower than those obtained by previous investigators. The small secular period increase is interpreted as a combination of both angular momentum loss (due to magnetic braking) and mass-transfer from the less massive component to the more massive component. One cyclical component had a $20.^y3$ period with an amplitude of $0.^d0037$, and the other had a $62.^y8$ period with an amplitude of $0.^d0258$. The components had an approximate 1:3 relation between their periods and a 1:7 ratio between their amplitudes. Two plausible mechanisms (i.e., the light-time effects [LTEs] caused by the presence of additional bodies and the Applegate model) were considered as possible explanations for the cyclical components. Based on the LTE interpretation, the minimum masses of 0.29 $M_{\odot}$ for the shorter period and 0.50 $M_{\odot}$ for the longer one were calculated. The total light contributions were within 5%, which was in agreement with the 3% third-light obtained from the light curve synthesis performed by Yang & Dai (2009). The Applegate model parameters show that the root mean square luminosity variations (relative to the luminosities of the eclipsing components) are 3 times smaller than the nominal value (${\Delta}L/L_{p,s}{\approx}0.1$), indicating that the variations are hardly detectable from the light curves. Presently, the LTE interpretation (due to the third and fourth stars) is preferred as the possible cause of the two cycling period changes. A possible evolutionary implication for the V700 Cyg system is discussed.
Tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) thin films were deposited using r.f. magnetron reactive sputtering and the electrical properties, such as the resistivity, carrier concentration and mobility, were investigated as a function of the sample position under a given magnetron sputtering condition. The nonhomogeneity of the electrical properties with the sample position was observed under a given magnetron sputtering condition. The resistivity of ITO thin film on the substrate which corresponded to the center of the target had a minimum value, 2∼4$\times$10$\^$-4/$\Omega$$.$cm, and it increased symmetrically when the substrate deviated from the center. The density measurement result also showed that ITO thin film deposited at the center has a maximum density of 7.0g/cm$^3$, which was a relative density of about 97%, and the density decreased symmetrically as the substrate deviated from the center. The nonhomogeneity of electrical properties with the deposition position could be explained with the incidence angle of the source beam alpha, which is related with an atomic self-shadowing effect. It was confirmed experimentally that the density in film affect both the carrier mobility and the conductivity. In the case where the density of ITO thin film is 7.0g/cm$^3$, the magnitude of the mean free path was identical with that of the grain size(the diameter of column). However, in the other cases, the mean free path was smaller than the grain size. These results showed that the scattering of the free electrons at the grain boundary is the major factor for the electrical conduction in ITO thin films having a high density, and there exists other scattering sources such as vacancies, holes, or pores in ITO thin films having a low density.ing a low density.

Background: A 9-year-old male showed severe defects in midface structures, which resulted in maxillary hypoplasia, ocular hypertelorism, relative mandibular prognathism, and syndactyly. He had been diagnosed as having Apert syndrome and received a surgery of frontal calvaria distraction osteotomy to treat the steep forehead at 6 months old, and a surgery of digital separation to treat severe syndactyly of both hands at 6 years old. Nevertheless, he still showed a turribrachycephalic cranial profile with proptosis, a horizontal groove above supraorbital ridge, and a short nose with bulbous tip. Methods: Fundamental aberrant growth may be associated with the cranial base structure in radiological observation. Results: The Apert syndrome patient had a shorter and thinner nasal septum in panthomogram, PA view, and Waters' view; shorter zygomatico-maxillary width (83.5 mm) in Waters' view; shorter length between the sella and nasion (63.7 mm) on cephalogram; and bigger zygomatic axis angle of the cranial base (118.2°) in basal cranial view than a normal 9-year-old male (94.8 mm, 72.5 mm, 98.1°, respectively). On the other hand, the Apert syndrome patient showed interdigitating calcification of coronal suture similar to that of a normal 30-year-old male in a skull PA view. Conclusion: Taken together, the Apert syndrome patient, 9 years old, showed retarded growth of the anterior cranial base affecting severe midface hypoplasia, which resulted in a hypoplastic nasal septum axis, retruded zygomatic axes, and retarded growth of the maxilla and palate even after frontal calvaria distraction osteotomy 8 years ago. Therefore, it was suggested that the severe midface hypoplasia and dysostotic facial profile of the present Apert syndrome case are closely relevant to the aberrant growth of the anterior cranial base supporting the whole oro-facial and forebrain development.

In recent years, modularization of engine parts has increased the application of plastic products in air intake systems. Plastic intake manifolds provide many advantages including reduced weight, contracted cost, and lower intake air temperatures. These manifolds, however, have some weakness when compared with customary aluminium intake manifolds, in that they have low sound transmission loss because of their lower material density. This low transmission loss of plastic intake manifolds causes several problems related to flow noise, especially when the throttle is opened quickly. The physical processes, responsible for this flow noise, include turbulent fluid motion and relative motion of the throttle to the airflow. The former is generated by high-speed airflow in the splits between the throttle valve and the inner-surface of the throttle body and surge-tank, which can be categorized into the quadrupole source. The latter induces the unsteady force on the flow, which can be classified into the dipole source. In this paper, the mechanism of noise generation from the turbulence is only investigated as a preliminary study. Stochastic noise source synthesis method is adopted for the analysis of turbulence-induced, i.e. quadrupole noise by throttle at quick opening state. The method consists of three procedures. The first step corresponds to the preliminary time-averaged Navier-Stokes computation with a $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model providing mean flow field characteristics. The second step is the synthesis of time-dependent turbulent velocity field associated with quadrupole noise sources. The final step is devoted to the determination of acoustic source terms associated with turbulent velocity. For the first step, we used market available analysis tools such as STAR-CD, the trade names of fluid analysis tools available on the market. The steady state flows at three open angle of throttle valve, i.e. 20, 35 and 60 degree, are numerically analyzed. Then, time-dependent turbulent velocity fields are produced by using the stochastic model and the flow analysis results. Using this turbulent velocity field, the turbulence-originated noise sources, i.e. the self-noise and shear-noise sources are synthesized. Based on these numerical results, it is found that the origin of the turbulent flow and noise might be attributed to the process of formulation and the interaction of two vortex lines formed in the downstream of the throttle valve. These vortex lines are produced by the non-uniform splits between the throttle valve and inner cylinder surface. Based on the analysis, we present the low-noise design of the inner geometry of throttle body.
We compared the characteristics of Siemens virtual wedge device with physical wedges for clinical application. We investigated the characteristics of virtual and physical wedges for various wedge angles (15, 30, 45, and 60) using 6- and 15-MV photon beams. Wedge factors were measured in water using an ion chamber for various field sizes and depths. In case of virtual wedge device, as upper jaw moves during irradiation, wedge angles were estimated by accumulated doses. These measurements were performed at off-axis points perpendicular to the beam central axis in water for a $15\;cm\;{\times}\;20\;cm$ radiation field size at the depth of 10 cm. Surface doses without and with virtual or physical wedges were measured using a parallel plate ion chamber at surface. Field size was $15\;cm\;{\times}\;20\;cm$ and a polystyrene phantom was used. For various field sizes, virtual and physical wedge factors were changed by maximum 2.1% and 3.9%, respectively. For various depths, virtual and physical wedge factors were changed by maximum 1.9% and 2.9%, respectively. No major difference was found between the virtual and physical wedge angles and the difference was within 0.5. Surface dose with physical wedge was reduced by maximum 20% (x-ray beam : 6 MV, wedge angle : 45, SSD : 80 cm) relative to one with virtual wedge or without wedge. Comparison of the characteristics of Siemens virtual wedge device with physical wedges was performed. Depth dependence of virtual wedge factor was smaller than that of physical wedge factor. Virtual and physical wedge factors were nearly independent of field sizes. The accuracy of virtual and physical wedge angles was excellent. Surface dose was found to be reduced using a physical wedge.
This study investigated the lateral behavior of monopile embedded in the dry sand through cyclic lateral loading test using a centrifuge test. The sand sample for the experiment was the dry Jumunjin standard sand at 80% relative density and the friction angle of $38^{\circ}$. In the experimental procedure, firstly, it was determined the static lateral bearing capacity by performing the static lateral loading test to decide the cyclic load. This derived static lateral bearing capacity values of 30%, 50%, 80%, 120% were determined as the cyclic lateral load, and the number of cycle was performed 100 times. Through the results, the experiment cyclic p-y curve was calculated, and the cyclic p-y backbone curve by depth was derived using the derived maximum soil resistance point by the load. The initial slope at the same depth was underestimated than API (1987) p-y curves, and the ultimate soil resistance was overestimated than API (1987) p-y curves. In addition, the result of the comparison with the suggested dynamic p-y curve was that the suggested dynamic p-y curve was overestimated than the cyclic p-y backbone curve on the initial slope and soil resistance at the same depth. It is considered that the p-y curve should be applied differently depending on the loading conditions of the pile.
This study was conducted to improve the membrane characteristics and performance by increasing hydrophilicity by adding additives to the ultrafiltration polysulfone (PSf) hollow fiber membrane. The mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were prepared by dispersing 15 nm of fumed silica (FS) in the spinning solution at 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 wt%. SEM analysis was carried out to confirm the cross-section and surface condition. It was confirmed that mean pore radius of the hollow fiber increased by 4 nm as FS was added. In addition, contact angle measurement was carried out for the hydrophilicity analysis of hollow fiber membranes, and it was confirmed that the hydrophilicity of MMMs were increased by adding of FS. In the case of water permeability, the membrane including FS showed 91~96 LMH and showed 5~11% more increase than PSf membrane. In the antifouling performance test, relative flux reduction ratios of FS mixed hollow fiber membranes were lower than that of PSf membranes, and it was confirmed that increase of hydrophilicity hinders adsorption of hydrophobic BSA on the membrane surface.
