This study showed that the association between grandmother-mother relationship and grandmother-grandchildren ties is mediated by the coparenting. Participants consisted of 329 grandmothers who were rearing preschool aged grandchildren in the Seoul and Gyeonggido area. SPSS 23.0 performed descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis. The structural equation model was estimated with AMOS 23.0. Parameters were estimated using the maximum likelihood method. Model fit index used the chi-square statistic, the goodness of fit index (GFI), the Turker-Lewis index (TLI), the comparative fit index (CFI), the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA). The mediation effect analysis followed a two-step verification process; direct and indirect effect. In addition, statistical significance of the indirect effect was examined using a bootstrapping procedure. The results are as follows. First, a positive correlation was found between the grandmother-mother relationship, grandmother-grandchildren ties, and coparenting. Second, the association between grandmother-mother relationship and grandmother-grandchildren ties is mediated by coparenting. The results of this study suggest that the quality of the grandmother's relationship with mothers and cooperative coparenting is important to building relationships with grandchildren. In addition, coparenting can be an important mechanism for grandmother-mother relationships and grandmother-grandchild ties. Based on the results of this study, we discussed ways to improve the grandmothers' relationship quality with the mother and strengthen parenting ability.
In general, grandparents have been very influential resource persons on their grandchildren's gross development. Nevertheless it has been difficult to find many empirical studies that focused on the specific competence of grandchildren and showed strong evidence in its regard. Therefore this study was intented to investigate the influence of grandparents' social support on their grandchildren's social competence in the light of grandparent's social support on their grandchildren's social competence in the light of grandchildren-grandparent relationship. The subjects were 230 fifth grade children in elementary school who were 123 boys and 107 girls. Among them, 94 children were related with grandfathers, 167 children with grandmothers 101 children with maternal grandfathers and 182 children with maternal grandmothers. The questionaire was used as a methodological instrument and the statistics such as frequency, percentile, mean, Pearson's correlation, One-Way ANOVA and Scheff test were used for data analysis. The findings were as follows : 1) Children's affectional intimacy to grandparent was positively correlated with perceived grandparent's social support. 2) Perceived grandparent's social support was affirmatively correlated with grandparent-mother relationship, that is, grandchildren-grandparent relationship was mediated by mother. And 3) children who more perceived grandparent's social support than less perceived grandparent's social support were highly rated I social competence by teacher. In the result, children emotionally, informatively and instrumentally supported by paternal or maternal grandparents showed high social competence defined supported by paternal or maternal grandparents showed high social competence defined as interpersonal relationship ability on the significant level respectively.
Using ethnographic methods, this study identifies the meaning of paternal experiences through a series of individual one to two hour interviews with men who have grandchildren. The interviewees consisted of twelve fathers from fifty to seventy years of age and the middle SES class. The results were as follows. First, adult-children-marriage and parent transitions were found to be important changes for men on their father's perception of their role as a father. Second, fathers with grandchildren felt happiness due to their grandchildren and held grandchildren as being important. Third, protecting and supporting their families was the main focus of paternity. Forth, the period of paternal experiences with grandchildren can be called "the stage of strong grandfather identity" because men who have grandchildren put more importance in the relationship with grandchildren than do their own adult-children, and grandchildren themselves play an important role in establishing male identity.
Mother's view and mediating behavior of paternal grandparents-grandchildren is explored by using data of 159 mothers who have children at teens. The analysis indicates as below. 1. Mothers highly except the roles of grandparents such as teaching values and family historians, role models for good life, influencing on the developing of self-identity of grandchildren. However mothers want grandparents keep distance from the lives of grandchildren. This may be double message to grandparents that they may find it uneasy to accomodate. 2. Grandchildren's role is expected very positively by mothers. 3. Mothers' mediating level of paternal grandparents-grandchildren relations is neutral and a little bit positive on the whole. Mothers' mediating behavior between grandfathers-grandchildren is associated with mothers' view on the importance of grandfathers in the lives of grandchildren and residence pattern. Mothers' mediating behavior between grandmothers-grandchildren is associated with mothers' view on the importance of grandmothers in the lives of grandchildren, grandchildren's role, the intimacy between mothers and grandmothers and residence pattern.
The purpose of His research was to investigate the effect of grandchildren's solidarity with their grandparents on their caring attitude for the elderly. The participants were 311 college students in Chollabuk-Do province. Such statistical methods as factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, t-Test, pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed for this research. The results showed that the solidarity with grandparents was significantly different according to the college grade, birth order, mother's and grandparents' educational levels, economic status of grandparent, relationship with parents, and grandparents' ages. It was also found that there were significant differences in the levels of grandchildren's caring attitude for the elderly according to the college grade, occupational status of mother, relationship with parent, parents' educational levels, and family atmosphere. Finally, multiple regression analysis results indicated that grandchildren's caring attitude for the elderly was significantly influenced by grandchildren's affectional and contact solidarity with grandparents, relationship with parent, and grandparents' economic status.

The methodology were the analysis on 6 management cases by step and the analysis on the interview with 3 experts implementing the case management on grandparent and grandchildren families. As a result, major complaints from grandparent and grandchildren families were basic livelihood and economy area, physical and mental health area, child care and education area and culture area. The service goals were set by such classification and support service was provided using the internal and external resources. The case management process was effective for improving the satisfaction on life by positively changing the grandchildren and promoting the psychological and emotional stability. 6 cases were under the post management after the analysis was completed and linked to the program 'Reinforcement of Family Ability of Grandparent and Grandchildren Family.' In accordance with the interview with the experts in case management, the grandparent and grandchildren family case management was characterized by high dependency and difficulty in expressing the desires. They required the long-term approach as well as the approach to restore the relationship with the original family.
This study reported phenomenological analysis of the interviews with 26 adult grandchildren who had(or have) a cohabitation with grandparents. The research question was what adult grandchildren experienced in living with grandparents. Results indicated that "the aged" was described as generous and wise person, so they had positive attitude toward the elderly. Participants perceived level of benefits of the coresidence with grandparents were higher than the costs in instrumental, material, and emotional supports. The relationship between grandparents and parents was generally intimate. It makes adult grandchildren advocate parents living together in the future. But adult grandchildren plan to get along independently when they grow old.
The purpose of this study is to examine grandparents' role to their grandchildren, the role type, and the variables that influence the role. For this purpose, data were collected from 542 grandparents through questionnaire. The main findings are as follows: 1. The most frequent role activity that grandparents perform include 'advising their grandchildren to be successful,' 'encouraging them to study hard,' 'having them help housework,' and 'teaching them how to behave', whereas the least one is 'to teach things such as cooking, paduk, and chess.' 2. Supporting role, educating role and raising role are three types of grandparents' role activity to their grandchildren. 3. One of the significant variables affecting their role level is living arrangement of grandparents. In addition, age, economic level, and educational level are partially effective variables in grandparents' role, along with whether they work or not, how often they meet their grandchildren, and how old their grandchildren are. However, it is not among significant variables whether they are healthy, or whether they are paternal or maternal.
This study was conducted in order to understand grandmothers' intent of caring for working mothers' children and the influence of related variables with regard to living arrangements. The data was collected from 245 grandmothers who have been caring for their grandchildren for more than 6 months. The data was analyzed by mean, t-test, x2-test, and logistic regression analysis. The results were as follows: first, as to whether the grandmothers were willing to take care of their grandchildren again, 56.5% answered "yes", while 43.5% were not willing to do so. Those who were not living together with their grandchildren were more likely to answer positively. Second, it was found upon analysis that the significant variables of the experience differed according to grandmothers' residential status. In the case of co-residing grandmothers, the significant variables were the number and age of the grandchildren, their relationship, satisfaction, and feeling of burden, while only satisfaction was significant in non-co-residing grandmothers' cases. This implies that the more satisfaction the non-co-residing grandmothers experience, the more likely they are willing to take care of their grandchildren again. As for the co-residing grandmothers, it implies that the characteristics of the grandchildren, satisfaction, and feeling of burden, all influence their caregiving intent for the next time.
