  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between perceived parental attachment and the life satisfaction of college students, focusing on the mediating role of psychological basic needs(autonomy, competence and relatedness). The Participants of this study were 208 college students. The result was statistically treated using SPSS 21.0 program, Amos 21.0. Additionally, PROCESS Macro was used to verify the significant mediating effect. Results from structural equation modeling analyses indicated that a research model produced a better fit to the data than a alternative structural model. The final SEM model fit indices of $x^2$(df), CFI, TLI, RMSEA were met the acceptable criteria of model fitness. In other words, among the goodness-of-fit indexes of the final study model, $x^2=261.075$(p<.001), RMSEA is .082, TLI equals .925, CFI equals .940. The results showed the following: First, Parental attachment has a direct effect on autonomy, competence and relatedness. Also competence and relatedness have a direct effect on the life satisfaction. Second, Competence and relatedness showed a mediating effects on Parental attachment and the life satisfaction. The implications of these results were discussed and the further studies were suggested.

  • Objective: This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of male and female adolescents' basic psychological needs (i.e., autonomy, competence, and relatedness) in the relationship between mothers' overprotection and adolescents' depressive symptoms. Methods: The participants included 292 middle school students (52.7% girls) living in Gyeonggi. Correlation analysis, t-test, and PROCESS macro by Hayes (2013) were performed using the SPSS 22.0 software. Results: Adolescents' autonomy and relatedness showed a significant mediating role between mothers' overprotection and depressive symptoms in all adolescents. In the case of male adolescents, only autonomy showed a significant mediating effect between mothers' overprotection and depressive symptoms. Conclusion: Both mothers overprotection and adolescents' autonomy and relatedness should be considered to understand the development of depressive symptoms. The result also indicated that gender is an important factor when understanding the mediating role of basic psychological needs between mothers' overprotection and adolescents' depressive symptoms.

  • In higher education institutions, where scholars and academics have ever-evolving roles as research's contributors, most felt research support facilities were subpar in Malaysia. This indicates that academics' research orientation may not meet the overall needs of the higher education system. In a country home to several ethnicities, the diverse identities could potentially affect academics' research performance. This knowledge-gap motivates the study to examine how academics' identities could promote research orientation through the interplay between autonomy and relatedness on their competence when seen through the prism of self-determination. The study employed a structural equation modelling technique to analyze the collected data from 310 academics across 21 Malaysian universities. Participants reported that research orientation was significantly higher through satisfying their competence pushed by their autonomy and academic community relatedness motivated by their academic identity. The findings contribute to the self-determination theory by highlighting participants' pursuit of competence in their research orientation through autonomy and relatedness motivated by their academic identification. This study offers intriguing insights by evaluating the effects of academic identity in motivating psychological needs to make academics research oriented. This enables policymakers to develop more influential motivational strategies. Future research could expand to explore this phenomenon in more diverse settings.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating role of cultural values in the associations between autonomy and relatedness satisfaction of adolescents on their psychological well-being Methods: A total of 506 high school students(M age = 16.2) in Korea completed self-reported measures of needs satisfaction, psychological well-being, and cultural values, and data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Results: The results were as follows: First, both autonomy and relatedness satisfaction were positively related to adolescents' well-being. Second, Collectivistic-Individualistic value moderated the associations. Especially, only for collectivism oriented adolescents, the positive effect of autonomy satisfaction on psychological well-being was significant when their relatedness satisfaction was high. Conclusion: The findings suggest the importance of both autonomy and relatedness satisfaction in predicting psychological well-being of adolescents and underscore the moderating role of cultural values.

  • This study examined the effects of self-concealment and satisfication among the basic psychological needs on the commitment to opposite-sex romantic relationships in early adulthood. The study examined the mediating effects of basic psychological needs, autonomy, competence, and relatedness, in the relationship between self-concealment and the commitment to opposite-sex romantic relationships. For this purpose, a self-report survey was conducted on 197 adults aged 20 to 29 who are currently in opposite-sex romantic relationships, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS MACRO v3.5. The main results of this study are as follows. First, gender, age, and duration of dating period among the subject's demo-social variables significantly impacted the commitment to opposite-sex romantic relationships. Second, satisfying relatedness among the basic psychological needs had the largest influence on the commitment to opposite-sex romantic relationships, and self-concealment negatively affected the commitment to opposite-sex romantic relationships. Third, relatedness from the basic psychological needs had a significant mediating effect between self-concealment and the commitment to romantic relationships. It can be seen that it is crucial to lower self-concealment and to satisfy relatedness among the basic psychological needs in order to promote commitment to romantic relationships in early adulthood. This study is meaningful in that it tried to reveal the influence of individual psychological factors on the commitment to the romantic relationship, and it is significant that it proposed a basis for intervention to promote the commitment to opposite-sex romantic relationships in early adulthood.

  • Entity linking is to link entity's name mentions occurring in text to corresponding entities within knowledge bases. Since the same entity mention may refer to different entities according to their context, entity linking needs to deal with entity disambiguation. Most recent works on entity disambiguation focus on semantic relatedness between entities and attempt to integrate semantic relatedness with entity prior probabilities and term co-occurrence. To the best of my knowledge, however, it is hard to find studies that analyze and present the pure effects of semantic relatedness on entity disambiguation. From the experimentation on Korean Wikipedia data set, this article empirically evaluates entity disambiguation approaches using semantic relatedness in terms of the following aspects: (1) the difference among semantic relatedness measures such as NGD, PMI, Jaccard, Dice, Simpson, (2) the influence of ambiguities in co-occurring entity mentions' set, and (3) the difference between individual and collective disambiguation approaches.

  • This study aimed to assess the influence of burnout with satisfaction of basic psychological needs among nurses. From oct, 25, 2013 to nov, 25, 2013, participants included 160 nurses from 6 major general hospital located in urban areas in Korea. Data for basic psychological needs and burnout were collected through a self-reported questionnaire and were analyzed with independent t-test and analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. This study shows negative correlations between burnout and autonomy(r=-.45, P<.001), competency(r=-.52, P<.001), relatedness(r=-.49, P<.001). The variables predicting burnout were autonomy(${\beta}=-.26$), competency(${\beta}=-.30$), relatedness(${\beta}=-.12$), age(${\beta}=-.17$), number of service years(${\beta}=.09$). These variables accounted for 34.3% of the variance of burnout in nurses. Our results indicated that it is necessary to increase basic psycological needs to decrease burnout. Therefore nursing managers should develop programs in order to increase autonomy, relatedness and competency.

  • This study investigated empirically the structural relationship of golf participants' basic psychological needs, exercise emotion, and exercise-adherence behavior. Using two-hundred thirty questionnaires, the results were as follows. First, golf participants' autonomy, competence, and relatedness had a significant impact on the positive emotions. On the other hand, only competence lowered the negative emotions, and the other variables did not have a significant impact. Second, golf participants' autonomy, competence, and relatedness increased the exercise-adherence behavior. Third, golf participants' positive emotion increased the exercise-adherence behavior but a negative emotion decreased it. In terms of the indirect effect, golf participants' autonomy, competence, and relatedness influenced the exercise-adherence behavior, which was mediated by exercise emotion. This study is useful to sports participants interested in real value and a happy life through exercise-adherence behavior.

  • This study aimed to investigate the relation between self-esteem and satisfaction. After gathering study subjects (exercise participants) and deciding the population in 2014 in Jeonbuk city area, convenience sampling method was used to analyze the date from 278 subjects. The retrieved questionnaire in the research was analyzed in Window SPSS version 21 statistical program. Frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were used to find correlations between test values. Multiple regression analysis was used to find the effects of the test values. The study results are as follows. First, the exercise participants' positive self-esteem exhibited a positive relationship with competence, relatedness, and autonomy, which are sub factors of basic psychological needs satisfaction. Also, negative self-esteem had a negative relationship with competence, relatedness, and autonomy. Second, exercise participants' self-esteem had a positive effect on competence and autonomy in positive self-esteem and a negative effect on negative self-esteem. Relatedness had a positive effect in positive self-esteem but not in negative self-esteem. Thus it is necessary to increase positive self-esteem and make various exercise programs about basic psychological needs satisfaction of the exercise participants and strategic activity guide for exercise participants participating in exercise consistently.
