  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze factors affecting the net income of regional and industrial fisheries cooperatives in South Korea using panel data. This paper utilizes linear or GLS regression models such as pooled OLS model, fixed effects model, and random effects model to estimate affecting factors of the net income of regional and industrial fisheries cooperatives. After reviewing various tests, we eventually select random effects model. The results, based on panel data between 2013 and 2018 year and 64 fisheries cooperatives, indicate that capital and area dummy variables have positive effects and employment has negative effect on the net income of regional and industrial fisheries cooperatives as predicted. However, debt are opposite with our predictions. Specifically, it turns out that debt has positive effect on the net income of regional and industrial fisheries cooperatives although it has been increased. Additionally, this paper shows that the member of confreres does not show any significant effect on the net income of regional and industrial fisheries cooperatives in South Korea. This study is significant in that it analyzes the major factors influencing changes in the net income that have not been conducted recently for the fisheries cooperatives by region and industry.

  • This study is to structurally examine the regional income disparity in Korea. It measures the regional income inducement by household consumption expenditure per unit income, and the regional interdependency of income using 2005 and 2015 Regional Input-Output Tables of 16 provincial regions of Korea. The results are as follows. Firstly, the income inducement by consumption expenditure per unit income decreased overall, mainly due to the decrease in the income inducement of other regions than due to that of their region. Secondly, in many regions, the inter-relational income dependency per unit income decreased also, this too, mainly due to the decrease in the income transfer to other region. And, the income inducement effects of consumption expenditure per unit income of Seoul and Gyeonggi, which occupy a large portion of the Korean economy, were lower than that of other regions, but took the largest portion of income inducements generated by other regions as well as by themselves and absorbed the income transfers from other regions the most. The higher income inducement and income absorption in Seoul and Gyeonggi by consumption expenditure of other regions were mainly because of the high share in service of their consumption structure, the progress in tertiarization of their industrial structure, and the high wage portion. These results also mean that viewed from the regional interdependency of income, the income of Seoul and that of Gyeonggi are highly dependent on the income of other regions. Especially, Gyeonggi which leads the overseas exports of high-tech based manufactured products, has other external factors that contribute to their high income inducement, whereas, Seoul which shows high income absorption using its inter-relations with other domestic regions based on the services, has an income-generating structure that is sensitive to other regions' economic situation. Amid overall declines in regional income inducements and in income transfers, and continuing concentrations into Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, to alleviate the regional disparity, the regional industry policies should, rather than benchmarking the policies of the two concentrated regions, enhance their own inter-regional relationships by strengthening the comparative advantage of their regionally specialized industry.

  • Most studies on regional economic impact have utilized employment or employment income data. Recently, a few scholars have noticed the importance of nonemployment income sources in urban economies. Using decennial census data on Arizona towns from 1970 to 1990, this paper first examines the increasing importance of nonempolyment income sources in urban economies and the associations of nonemployment income sources with elderly population and metropolitan location. Then, this paper investigates the impact of nonemployment income on urban growth in the framework of economic base model. The regression results show that the impact of nonemployment income is significant in the increase of nonbasic income and becomes greater over time, and that the impact of transfer over time, and that the impact of transfer income on nonbasic income of transfer income on nonbasic income is stronger in smaller towns and the impact of investment income is stronger in larger towns.

  • The paper is basically designed to investigate how regional consumption affects to regional income in Korea by introducing a model with panel cointegration, rational expectation and FM-OLS cointegration methodology. Empirical evidence reveals that the regional income could be stimulated by manipulating the regional consumption due to the fact that current regional consumption and first-lagged regional income are positively related to the level of regional income. Although there exists a possibility to increase the regional income which is associated with a spending multiplier in the group of regions with highly calculated MPC, but not in the groups of regions with middle and low calculated MPCs. To this end, it could be tentatively concluded that market-oriented system should be implemented elaborately to enable that the spending multipliers are appropriately operated in these two groups.

  • The 4 major rivers restoration project (4RRP) requires the government to invest a lot of money. Regional economic effect is one of the main purposes of implementing the 4RRP. This paper attempts to measure the regional economic effects, focusing on regional employment-inducing effect and regional income-inducing effect. Regional employment-inducing effect is computed by excluding indirect effect and directly investigating the amount of employment. To this end, marginal propensity to consume, household consumption, household income should be derived. We used working day data and government expenditure multiplier to measure local employment creation and income generation. As a result, the project creates 46,628 employments from 2009 to 25 August 2011 and generates 25 trillion won regional income for three years.

  • This paper analyzed the effects the regional competitiveness index on the characteristics of the regional growth. This study divides the regions in the US based on the static and dynamic standard of income for the characteristics of the regional growth. The results of the analysis are as follows. First some regions such as Alaska, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming have higher levels of SCI and both the rate of growth and per capita income than the national average. These are considered prosperous regions based on their high level of SCI. Second, in regards to the relation between the income level and regional competitiveness index for the regional growth, the variables such as human resource, science technology, business incubation, openness, safety and environmental policy are significant. Third, infrastructure, human resource, science technology and openness are the significant variables concerning the relation between the rate of income growth and regional competitiveness index for the regional growth.

  • The effects of regional health insurance on access to ambulatory care are examined in this paper. Access is measured as use-disability ratios. The data are collected in a household interview survey at Hwachon county before and after the introduction of regional health insurance. Before the introduction of regional health insurance, low-income class has less contacts with physicians than high-income class. This disparity in accessibility among economic classes is reduced with the health insurance coverage, but not removed, even after adjusting for health need.

  • Since the 1990's, the most important environmental issue on the earth is characterized by "global worming problem". The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) plays an significant role to solve this problem on a worldwide scale. The main purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of $CO_2$ reduction on the Daegu regional economy through 1995 regional input-output coefficients derived from the 1995 national input coefficients table by using non-survey method. The sectoral impacts on output, income, and employment were computed under the decline-unequalized assumption in final demand influenced by $CO_2$ reduction. This article has six main sections. Section 1 is an introduction to this paper. Section 2 explains briefly the derivation method of the regional technical coefficients. Section 3 describes the model building through input-output multipliers. In section 4 regional data on output, income, employment and final demand are computed to estimate the regional impacts. Section 5 deals with impact analysis on the Daegu economy. Section 6 contains a brief summary and concludintg remarks. The research findings of this study can be summarized as follows. In 1995, under the assumption of 10% decrease on an average in final demand sectors, the economy of the region studied decreased \3600 billion of output, ₩1114 billion of income, and 49919 man-years of employment. The percent ratios of each value to the total showed 9.4%, 9.7%, and 9.2%, respectively. The dominant sectors associated with impact analysis within the region are chemicals and chemical products, paper, printing and publishing, and textiles and leather, etc; nevertheless, the least dominant sector is non-metallic mineral products. products.

  • As a result of this study, the income generation effect generatded by regional universities for the region is KRW 130.6 billion (direct and indirect income effect KRW 90.9 billion, induced income effect KRW 39.6 billion). In addition, it is estimated that the effect of regional universities on inducing employment in the region is 2,145 per year. Unless quality jobs are secured, the outflow of population to the metropolitan area will accelerate, and the disappearance of local areas will emerge as a social problem in the near future. Considering the effect of local universities on the local economy revealed through the results of this study, that is, the income and job creation effects, the government will be able to prevent local extinction by providing bold financial support to local universities. If it is difficult to afford it with government finances alone, it can be solved by opening the door to universities for admission through donations, which many advanced countries are introducing..

  • This study evaluates the economic impacts of regional festivals and cultural events by utilizing regional input-output models of Seosan and Chungnam, which are derived by using a location-quotient approach. Tourism industry has modest forward and backward linkages with other industries, but its impacts on regional income and employment are much larger than other industries including manufacturing industry. Strong impacts on income and employment seem to provide rational for promoting tourism industry in Seosan and Chungnam. The Seosan Migratory Bird Festival increased city outputs approximately by 3929 million Won, increased employment by 56 people, and increased total income of the province by 774 million Won. All of the economic impacts were mostly concentrated in service related industries,
