  • In this paper, the operation of current-fed quasi-Z-source inverter (QZSI) with buck-boost function, improved reliability, and regeneration capability is analyzed. The modified space modulation technique for controlling effectively both shoot-through time and zero voltage time is suggested. The simulation result is carried out in order to verify the performance of proposed technique.

  • In this paper, a single-sourced PV PCS using the trinary asymmetric MLI with a single-ended pre-regulator is proposed. Trinary based asymmetric CHB inverters provide higher output levels for the same number of cells compared to other CHB inverters. However, there is an issue of regeneration with trinary asymmetric inverters and this complicates the system with requirement of bi-directional converters at the input. Modified commutation strategies have been used to remove the regeneration issue with compromise in THD. The single-ended pre-regulator provides the isolated dc-link voltage for the individual H-bridge cells with the advantage of having a single switch and magnetic component. This implementation increases the magnetic utilization of the inductor core and reduces the switching loss in the pre-regulator and also the reduced parts count contributes to the cost competiveness of the proposed PCS. The proposed PV PCS has been verified using simulation results in this paper.

  • Due to the need for improved fuel consumption and the trend towards increasing the electrical content in automobiles, integrated starter generator (ISG) systems are being considered by the automotive industry. In this paper, in order to change the conventional generator of a vehicle, a belt driven integrated starter generator is considered. The overall ISG system, the design considerations for the claw pole type AC electric machine and a low voltage very high current power stage implementation are discussed. Test data on the low voltage claw pole type machine is presented, and a large current voltage source DC/AC inverter suitable for low voltage integrated starter generator operation is also presented. A metal based PCB (Printed Circuit Board) power unit to attach the 4-parallel MOS-FETs is used to achieve extremely high current capability. Furthermore, issues related to the torque assistance during vehicle acceleration and the generation/regeneration characteristics are discussed. A prototype with the capability of up to 1000 A and 27 V is designed and built to validate the kilo-amp inverter.

  • DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. Electric multiple (EMU) in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system and the replacement cycle of brake shoe in EMU will be increased and dust due to mechanical braking decreased. This paper present the developed inverter for regenerative power and its test equipment. Test for developed inverter is performed at test equipment and is divided into three items, which are regeneration mode, active filter mode, and system link test.

  • The generation cost of photo voltaic is the most expensive among the renewable energy. To reduce the generation cost of photo voltaic, the proposed method added the regeneration power of elevator. Therefore we have the simulation results the proposed method is 60[%] higher than the previous photo voltaic generation for efficiency of generation.

  • This paper presents a designing for the Off-line UPS usig SMB Flywheel Energy Storage System. This described flywheel energy storage system is designed to replace of the conventional EMB(Electro Mechanical Battery) system. To realize the high efficiency and to minimize the torque ripple the waveform of the inverter output current is controlled to be sinusoidal. The actual performance of the Off-line UPS using flywheel energy storage system is described.   • 본 논문에서는 양수발전용 동기발전기의 기동 및 회생제어를 위한 부하전류형 인버터(LCI) 시스템을 Matlalb/simulink를 이용하여 모델링하고 제어방법을 확인하였다. 부하전류형 인버터의 구성 및 동작모드에 대해 서술하였으며, 동기발전기의 안정성 확보를 위한 회생제어 모드에 적합한 제어 방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 기존의 복잡한 제어구조와 달리 제어요소의 간략화로 제어의 강인성을 확보하였으며, 부하전류형 인버터 시스템의 기동제어 및 제안된 회생제어에 대한 성능은 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

  • The electric railway is a clean and energy saving system, because it requires relatively less energy than automobiles by transporting the same passengers or goods. Six thousands of vehicles are operated on Korean urban transit system. This system is 95% of regeneration system. Especially, the VVVF-Inverter vehicle has a merit of the highest regeneration rate. Energy consumption is 90% for traction and 10% for auxiliary supply. Braking energy is about 40% of energy consumption. Up to 40% of the tractive power of vehicles capable of returning energy to the power supply can be regenerated during braking and that this energy can be used to feed vehicles which are accelerating at the same time. The energy generated by braking vehicle would simply be converted into waste heat by its braking resistors if no other vehicle is accelerating at exactly the same time. Such synchronized braking and accelerating can not be coordinated, the ESS(energy storage system) stores the energy generated during braking and discharges it again when a vehicle accelerates. This paper presents field tests about the energy saving rate of the developed ESS. when the ESS is on/off, energy saving rate of the ESS is tested. The verification test in the field focused on energy saving.

  • In this paper, 15[kW] AC regenerative system for battery charging and discharging test is proposed. The regenerative system is able to regenerate surplus energy to the grid in discharging mode, and the inverter of the system can be operated as a converter to compensate scarce energy in charging mode. In case of the conventional DC charging and discharging system, the regenerative energy is consumed by a resistor. However, as the proposed system regenerates the surplus energy to the grid through using DC-AC inverter, the energy saving effect can be achieved. In this paper, 15[kW] battery charging and discharging system is developed, and the validity of the system is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • Due to several advantages of Pulse Width Modulated(PWM) Converter, such as unity power factor with low-harmonics and energy regeneration, PWM converter has been widely used in industrial application. In every application of energy conversion equipment, the design and implementation must be carried out considering performance and cost. High quality with low cost is the best choice for energy conversion equipment. High dc link voltage can reduce inverter and motor side losses and system dimension compare to low dc link voltage. Analog controller can make PWM converter cheaper without considerable degradation of the performance than digital controller. This paper shows the simplified analog controller-for 600V dc link voltage using stationary reference frame control and the simulation results.
