This paper presents a performance improvement of gray level co-occurrence matrix(GLCM) based on the nonuniform quantization, which is generally used to analyze the texture of images. The nonuniform quantization is given by Lloyd algorithm of recursive technique by minimizing the mean square error. The nonlinear intensity levels by performing nonuniformly the quantization of image have been used to decrease the dimension of GLCM, that is applied to reduce the computation loads as a results of generating the GLCM and calculating the texture parameters by using GLCM. The proposed method has been applied to 30 images of $120{\times}120$ pixels with 256-gray level for analyzing the texture by calculating the 6 parameters, such as angular second moment, contrast, variance, entropy, correlation, inverse difference moment. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior computation time and memory to the conventional 256-level GLCM method without performing the quantization. Especially, 16-gray level by using the nonuniform quantization has the superior performance for analyzing textures to another levels of 48, 32, 12, and 8 levels.

A new coherent detection scheme with data based channel estimation (DBCE) for CDMA/BP(staggered burst pilot in parallel) channel structure is proposed. Because the pilot burst initiates DBCE operation periodically it is shown to be remarkably stable to Gaussian noise and Doppler shift with proper parameter settings. In our own system parameter setting, there is a negligible loss(0.068 dB) in $E_{b}/N_{o}$ by the introduction of the burst pilot. When compared with an ideal coherent detection, the required $E_{b}/N_{o}$ on Doppler shift corresponding to the speed of 160Km/H is degraded less that 2.0 dB. the burst pilot can be implemented without complexity even though some extra correlators are needed for DBCE. This improvement is superior to the previously coherent CDMA detectors with external or internal pilot.

We propose a new resource reservation scheme called MC-HMRSVP(Mobile clustering based-Hierarchical mobile ReSource reserVation Protcol) that is an extension of HMRSVP[3,4]. MC-HMRSVP always establishes a virtual cluster called Mobile Cluster, which includes its immediately adjacent MA(Mobile Agent) for passive reservation as well as the current MA for active reservation to which MH(Mobile Host) belongs. Our scheme also establishes the MC regardless of intra/inter region movement by GMA(Gateway Mobile Agent) function when a MH moves. To provide a general formulation on analyzing the performance in terms of reservation cost, we also model the resource reservation cost by using a simple recursive equation. Then, we show that our scheme decreases the reservation cost in comparison with the existing HMRSVP extentions.

Underwater acoustic communication channels have very complex channel characteristics caused by time-varying sea surface, submarine topography, sound speed, and geometry between transmitter and receiver. Especially, the channel has time-variance and doppler effect due to wind and sea current. We have to recognize the channel state and apply it to communication technique for increasing transmission efficiency in the underwater acoustic channel. In this paper, we present the frame recursive modulation and demodulation method using ambiguity function and autocorrelation function to estimate the doppler frequency. Furthermore, we conducted the simulation and sea experiment to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. When the channel coding technique was not used, the bit error rate performance of the proposed method was improved about 32 % compared with conventional method.

Regression tree is a tree-structured solution in which a simple regression model is fitted to the data in each node made by recursive partitioning of predictor space. There have been many efforts to apply tree algorithms to various regression problems like logistic regression and quantile regression. Recently, algorithms have been expanded to the panel data analysis such as RE-EM algorithm by Sela and Simonoff (2012), and extension of GUIDE by Loh and Zheng (2013). The algorithms are briefly introduced and prediction accuracy of three methods are compared in this paper. In general, RE-EM shows good prediction accuracy with least MSE's in the simulation study. A RE-EM tree fitted to business survey index (BSI) panel data shows that sales BSI is the main factor which affects business entrepreneurs' economic sentiment. The economic sentiment BSI of non-manufacturing industries is higher than that of manufacturing ones among the relatively high sales group.

This paper presents a multiple face detector based on a robust pupil detection technique. The pupil detector uses active illumination that exploits the retroreflectivity property of eyes to facilitate detection. The detection range of this method is appropriate for interactive desktop and kiosk applications. Once the location of the pupil candidates are computed, the candidates are filtered and grouped into pairs that correspond to faces using heuristic rules. To demonstrate the robustness of the face detection technique, a dual mode face tracker was developed, which is initialized with the most salient detected face. Recursive estimators are used to guarantee the stability of the process and combine the measurements from the multiface detector and a feature correlation tracker. The estimated position of the face is used to control a pantilt servo mechanism in realtime, that moves the camera to keep the tracked face always centered in the image.

In the recent digital communication systems, the performance of Turbo Code using the mr correction coding depends on the interleaver influencing the free distance determination and the recursive decoding algorithms that is executed in the huh decoder. However, performance depends on the interleaver depth that needs many delays over the reception process. Moreover, turbo code has been blown as the robust coding methods with the confidence over the fading channel. International Telecommunication Union(ITU) has recently adopted it as the standardization of the channel coding over the third generation mobile communications(IMT2000). Therefore, in this paper, we preposed the interleaver that has the better performance than existing block interleaver, and modified turbo decoder that has the parallel concatenated structure using MAP algorithm. In the realtime voice and video service over third generation mobile communications, the performance of the proposed two methods was analyzed and compared with the existing methods by computer simulation in terms of reduced decoding delay using the variable decoding method over AWGN and fading channels for CDMA environments.

Background subtraction is mainly used for the real-time extraction and tracking of moving objects from image sequences. In the outdoor environment, there are many changeable factor such as gradually changing illumination, swaying trees and suddenly moving objects, which are to be considered for the adaptive processing. Normally, GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) is used to subtract the background adaptively considering the various changes in the scenes, and the adaptive GMMs improving the real-time performance were worked. This paper, for on-line background subtraction, applied the improved adaptive GMM, which uses the small constant for learning rate ${\alpha}$ and is not able to speedily adapt the suddenly movement of objects, So, this paper proposed and evaluated the dynamic control method of ${\alpha}$ using the adaptive selection of the number of component distributions and the global variances of pixel values.

In this paper, an algorithm using wavelet transform for detecting a cut that is a radical scene transition point, and fade and dissolve that are gradual scene transition points is proposed. The conventional methods using wavelet transform for this purpose is using features in both spatial and frequency domain. But in the proposed algorithm, the color space of an input image is converted to YUV and then luminance component Y is transformed in frequency domain using 2-level lifting. Then, the histogram of only low frequency subband that may contain some spatial domain features is compared with the previous one. Edges obtained from other higher bands can be divided into global, semi-global and local regions and the histogram of each edge region is compared. The experimental results show the performance improvement of about 17% in recall and 18% in precision and also show a good performance in fade and dissolve detection.

Recently, heterogeneous networks consisting of small-cells on top of traditional macro-cellular network has attracted much attention, because traditional macro-cellular network is not suitable to support more demanding mobile data traffic due to its limitation of spatial reuse. However, due to the transmit power difference between macro- and small-cells, most users are associated with macro-cells rather than small-cells. To solve this problem, enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) has been introduced. Particularly, in eICIC, the small-cell coverage is forcibly expanded to associate more users with small-cells. Then, to avoid cross-tier interference from macro-cells, these users are allowed to receive the data during almost blank subframe (ABS) in which macro-cells almost remain silent. However, this approach is not sufficient to balance the load between macro- and small-cells because it only expands the small-cell coverage. In this paper, we propose a load balance scheme improving proportional fairness for heterogeneous networks employing eICIC. In particular, the proposed scheme combines the greedy-based user association and the ABS rate determination in a recursive manner to perform the load balance.
