  • In this study, a novel dual band planar monopole antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN)/ Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access (WiMAX) application was designed, fabricated, and measured. The proposed antenna consists of two hook shaped strips, an asymmetric ground plane, and a rectangular slit in the ground plane. Acceptable agreements between the measured and simulated results are achieved. Numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed antenna satisfies the 10 dB impedance bandwidth requirement while covering the WLAN and WiMAX bands simultaneously. This paper also presents and discusses the 2D radiation patterns and 3D gains according to the results of the experiment that was conducted.

  • In this paper, a compact microstrip-fed dual-band planar antenna for global positioning system (GPS) and mobile handset applications is presented. Dual operating frequency bands are achieved by an open end L-shaped slot and a bent rectangular slot. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on the FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.3, thickness of 1.6 mm and size of 57 × 57 ㎟. The measured impedance bandwidth (|S11|≤ -10dB) of the fabricated antenna is 60 MHz(1550 ~ 1610 MHz) in the GPS band and 670 MHz (1690 ~ 2360 MHz) in the DCS / IMT-2000 band, covering the required bandwidths for GPS(1570 ~ 1580 MHz) and DCS / IMT-2000 (1710 ~ 2200 MHz) bands. In particular, it has been observed that antenna has a good omnidirectional radiation patterns as well as high gain of 2.36 dBi and its efficiency is more than 90 % over the entire frequency band of interest.

  • In this paper, a new co-planar waveguide ultra-wideband aperture is designed. The designed antenna consists of a rectangular aperture on a determined ground plane and a mushroom shaped stub. The mushroom-shaped stub, which is simple, convenient to analyze and optimise, has less parameter. This antenna has compact aperture size $21.1{\times}8.1mm^2$, designed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.3, thickness of l.5mm. CPW fed planar antenna has the advantages of wide-bandwidth, low-cost and easy interaction with the radio frequency front end circuitry.

  • A planar monopole antenna that was developed for WLAN/WiMAX application is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna with three strips, an asymmetrical ground plane, and a rectangular slit in the ground is designed to cover the popular frequency spectrum of WLAN (wireless local area network) bands and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) bands. The proposed antenna, which is capable of wideband operation, is fed by a strip line and fabricated on an FR-4 substrate. The obtained numerical results agree well with the experiment data. It was validated that the configuration can meet the demands for the WLAN/WiMAX systems and effectively enhanced the impedance bandwidth to 9.95% for the lower band and 76.05% for the upper band for VSWR < 1 : 2. This paper also presents and discusses the 2D radiation patterns and 3D gains according to the results of the experiment.

  • In this paper, a CPW fed and inversed U-type monopole structure wide slot antenna for novel broadband calacturictics is proposed. To enhance the impedance bandwidth of the wide slot antenna, we proposed the wide slot structure with cpw-fed which is combined with four $\lambda/2$ rectangular radiation modified monopole and inductively coupled. The measured impedance bandwidth is about 2.3 GHz(3.85~6.15 GHz) at 10 dB and the simulated antenna gain is about 6 dBi at 5.4 GHz.

  • In this paper, a planar half-circle shape ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna fed by CPW is designed, fabricated and measured for UWB communications. Within the UWB band(3.1 GHz $\sim$ 10.6 GHz), 5.15 GHz $\sim$ 5.825 GHz frequency band is used by IEEE 802.lla WLAN applications. It may be necessary to notch out this band to avoid interference with IEEE 802.lla WLAN. Therefore, we have proposed three kinds of UWB antennas having a notch function, such as a rectangular slot, a hat-shaped slot, a circle-shaped slot. The notch frequency of the proposed antenna can be adjusted by controlling the slot length or slot width. From the measured results, the proposed antennas show a good gain flatness except the IEEE 802.lla WLAN frequency band and have a reasonable agreement with simulated results.

  • In this paper, a dual-band circular ring monopole antenna with stub and ground slot for is proposed WLAN(Wireless Local Area Networks) applications. The proposed antenna is based on a planar monopole design, and composed of one circular ring of radiating patches, and modified feed line, and rectangular slot in the ground plane for dual-band operation. To obtain the optimized parameters, we used the simulator, Ansoft's High Frequency Structure Simulator(HFSS) and found the parameters that effect antenna characteristics. Using the obtained parameters, the antenna is fabricated, and the return loss coefficient, gain, and radiation patterns are determined for WLAN application.

  • Microstrip antennas are low profile, are conformable to planar and nonplanar surfaces, are simple and inexpensive to manufacture, mechanically robust when mounted on rigid surfaces and are compatible with MMIC(Monolithic microwave integrated circuit) designs; they have been used in diverse communication systems. The rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed for a central frequency of 12.5 GHz, and the final product is a $4{\times}1$ array antenna with curvature radius of 200 mm. The microstrip antenna is embedded in a sandwich structure which consists of skin and core material. After impact, the performance of damaged antenna is estimated by measuring the return loss and radiation pattern. The antenna performance was not affected by this impact damage.

  • In this study, a planar printed circuit board (PCB) coil with FR4 substrate was designed and simulated using the finite element method, and the results were analyzed in the frequency domain. This coil can be used in wireless power transfer (WPT) as a transmitter or receiver, eliminating wires. It can also be used as the receiver in radio frequency energy-harvesting (RF-EH) systems by optimizing the planar PCB coil to convert radio-wave energy into electricity, and it can be employed as an excitation (transmitter) or receiver coil in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This PCB coil can replace the conventional coil, yielding a reduced occupied volume, a fine-tuned design, reduced weight, and increased efficiency. Based on the calculated gain, power, and electromagnetic and electric field results, this planar PCB coil can be implemented in WPT, NMR spectroscopy, and RF-EH devices with minor changes. In applications such as NMR spectroscopy, it can be used as a transceiver planar PCB coil. In this design, at frequencies of 915 MHz and 40 MHz with 5 mm between coils, we received powers of 287.3 μW and 480 μW, respectively, which are suitable for an NMR coil or RF-EH system.

  • In this paper, two 4$\times$4 rectangular patch array antennas operating at 20 GHz are implemented for the satellite communication. The sixteen patch antennas and microstrip feeding line are printed on a single-layered substrate. The design goal is to achieve high directivity and gain by optimizing design parameters through permutations in element spacing. The spacing between the array elements is chosen to be 0.736$\lambda$. Numerical simulation results indicate that the HPBW(Half-Power Beam Width) of the 4$\times$4 patch array antenna is 18.78 degrees in the E-plane and 18.48 degrees in the H-plane with a gain of 17.18 dBi. Numerical simulations of a 4$\times$4 recessed patch array antenna yield a HPBW of 18.71 degrees in the E-plane and 17.82 degrees in the H-plane with a gain of 19.43 dBi.
