  • Cognitive models of panic disorder have emphasized cognitive distortions' roles in the maintenance and treatment of panic disorder (PD). However, the patient's difficulty with identifying and managing emotional experiences might contribute to an enduring vulnerability to panic attacks. Numerous researchers, employing emotion processing paradigms and neuroimaging techniques, have investigated the empirical evidence for poor emotion processing in PD. For years, researchers considered that abnormal emotion processing in PD might reflect a dysfunction of the frontal-temporal-limbic circuits. Although neuropsychological studies have not provided consistent results regarding this model, a few studies have tried to find the biological basis of dysfunctional emotion processing in PD. In this article, we examine the possibility of dysregulation of emotion processing in PD. Specifically we discuss the neural basis of emotion processing and the manner in which such neurocognitive impairments may help clarify PD's core symptoms.

  • Panic disorder with agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder in which there are repeated attacks of intense fear and anxiety, and a fear of being in places where escape might be difficult, or where help might not be available in case of a panic attack. We experienced a 39 year-old man who had Panic disorder with agoraphobia from recent onset and whose condition was improved through oriental medical treatment. We treated the patient with Herbal medications and Giungoroen (至言高論)-wise saying and lofty opinion) and Gyeongjapyeongji (驚者平之)-mental stress must be eased with tranquilizers) and Relaxation therapy. Giungoroen is psychological therapy that promotes patient's recognition of disease and will to cure it through conversation. Gyeongjapyeongji is desensitizing the unease. Relaxation therapy is the use of muscular relaxation techniques in treatment. This result suggests that oriental medical treatment has good effect on Panic disorder with agoraphobia.

  • People's thinking and aging ways, which are spread in the abnormal situation called the reoognition panic, are different from those in the normal situation. So the design which is applied to this situation have the different points to be considered. The design in the abnormal situation is as important as that in the normal situation. This study is to evaluate the basic usability of the icons which are applied to this situation. The basic data about the recognition course, icon and metaphor have been collected and analyzed, and then the experiments based on this have been planned. The proprieties and conclusions about the ways have been generalized through accomplishing and analyzing the planned experiments. The most important meaning of this study is to suggest the examples of the usability estimating ways of the design works in the abnormal situation where the recognition panic may happen with high frequency. I hope that this study will be used for checking and improving in advance the difficulties of using the design which may happen in the real situation, by using actively the similar ways to this experiment.
