  • Equity-focused public health policy has solid theoretical and practical basis, in addition to ethical one. In the Republic of Korea (hereafter Korea), however, equity in health has not had a high priority in policy goals, regardless of policy areas and particular actors or approaches. Equitable health has been only a minor concern in most public health issues and their decision-making. Generic public health policies are needed to reduce inequity in health, but the importance of a firm basis for sound policy-making cannot be overemphasized. Health equity should be 'mainstreamed' in all public health policies. Potential approaches include intersectoral collaboration, health impact assessment, and 'Health in All Policies.' Public policy agendas for equitable health cannot be formulated without measurement and recognition of the problem. Korea is still suffering from the lack of reliable information on the current status of health inequity, resulting in a relatively weak awareness of the problem among both the general public and policy-makers. More information is needed to increase recognition and awareness that will increase intervention and actions. The absence of decision-making and actions should not be justified even by the lack of information on determinants and pathways of health inequities. Generic plausible solutions can often work in the real world according to political and social commitment. I have discussed several aspects of public health policy from the perspective of health equity, focusing on current status and plausible explanation. Policy process, agenda setting in particular, is highlighted and theories and concepts are presented along with analysis and description of current situation.

  • Mobile learning is a practical learning method for busy adult learners because the mobility of digital devices can overcome the drawbacks of e-learning. However, research is strongly lacking in the theoretical exploration of mobile learning effects and functions and its empirical research. Moreover, the research of learning characteristics and learners' requirements must be considered before applying and disseminating mobile learning into the educational field. To address this shortcoming, this study conducted an online survey with 1,542 officers of the Ministry of Health and Welfare Affairs (MHWA) regarding learner recognition to mobile learning. The analysis of learners' attitudes toward mobile learning, based on age and position, indicated that subordinate workers appeared to place more value on mobile learning. Many participants preferred mobile learning because of its mobility and the effectiveness of anywhere and anytime. However, some participants continue to misunderstand mobile learning and its necessity. Therefore, consideration of learning effectiveness, the form of the content, and learner-centered learning must be reviewed in advance. This study could lead to practical implications of mobile learning.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine job recognition of female nurses and perceived image of male nurses, and to investigate predictive factors affecting this perceived image. Methods: A survey was conducted between September and October 2015 with 143 female clinical nurses who worked at hospitals. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 correlation and multiple regression analyses. Results: The findings of this study were as follows : Female nurses recognition had positive correlations with images of male nurses. Social image(r=.41, p<.001), professional image(r=.45, p<.001), and nursing job prospects(r=.49, p<.001) were significantly correlated with perceived image of male nurses. Nursing job prospect(${\beta}=.193$, p=.049), perception that male nurses were suitable for their jobs(${\beta}=.329$, p<.001), mass media experience related to male nurses(${\beta}=.244$, p<.001), social image(${\beta}=.225$, p=.009) and professional image(${\beta}=.191$, p=.021) explained 42.7% of the variance in image of male nurses. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that nursing education and research should find concrete ways to improve perceived image of male nurses. It will enhance the quality of nursing service by improving male nurses' communication and collaboration with female nurses.

  • This study has been conducted with continuous dental sanitary education for primary school pupils for five years from 1997 through 2001, based on data obtained from a 97' survey on primary school pupils' recognition on dental hygiene education and their permanent dental health capacity. Following results were drawn through comparative analysis of data obtained during the survey period. Approx 70.77% of the examinees have experienced decay missing feeling (DMF) in the year 2001, suggesting a good effectiveness of dental hygiene education compared with 92.1 % of DMF rate in 1997. It has been found that pupils' knowledge and recognition on dental hygiene and management, etc were improved, as well as their eating habits and consciousness were changed. Comparative analysis of annual DMF showed that DMF rate, DMFT index, and DT rate were found to decrease every year, suggesting a improved dental health capacity. Grade level analysis revealed that DMFT index and DT rate were found to decrease every year during the survey period, suggesting pupils' dental management and consciousness were improved and changed. It has been found that DMF rate more significantly increased in a higher grade in 2001 than 1997. There was no difference in DMF rate between grades of primary school in 1997. However, in the year 2001 increment of approx 10% of DMF rate were observed in a higher grade.

  • To identify the relationship between types of job classification (typical and atypical) and the levels of recognition of noise and the hearing threshold shift, a total of 457 workers in a cosmetic company were studied utilizing a questionnaire and the audiometric hearing test. The results were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, and general linear model, as appropriate. The results showed that atypical workers had higher level of noise recognition but had lower levels of hearing ability, noise exposure, and the knowledge on hearing loss prevention, compared with those of typical workers. The high noise level group of typical workers showed higher threshold shift levels than that of atypical workers. Significant differences were found at 4 kHz for both ears and in right ear only for hearing threshold shift after adjusting age.
